Good you seem to be liking the game a lot. I would totally understand if you found the game dated - I probably would hesitate on introducing someone into gaming with games released in the late '90s.

This, Wind Waker, and Resident Evil 4 are probably my top three games of all time.

The one time I played through Final Fantasy VI I really liked it overall, but I felt like the game's a little overhyped. From what I've played of VII I think I like that game a little more overall and find it to be at least somewhat more deserving of the hype.

That's what seems to be the case with this game overall. I've never really heard anyone outright hate on the game, but it's not really the fan-favorite Mario RPG. Just the most popular perhaps.

Since I haven't actually seen the film I can't comment on the character, but when I saw the pink hair I just thought it was a space opera thing. Then again I know very little about SJWs beyond one particular person.

Even though Fallout 3, 4 and New Vegas are pretty strong titles, Star Fox 64 is the Star Fox game. In any case, NostalgiaFAQs would determine whether or not New Vegas breaks 40%.

New Vegas did break 40% on Resident Evil 4...although given how poorly RE4 did against Mario RPG and how New Vegas may have benefitted from Witcher rallies, it may not be that strong.

In this topic I will discuss the films I watch this year. I may occasionally mention some things about movies I saw last year (mostly recently) as well. Anyone else can feel free to discuss the films they watch.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989)

There is not a minute of this movie that is not fun. I can understand why some might find this film derivative/formulaic, but to me it didn't feel too overtly similar to the previous two. Right when the movie begins it sets up a premise and characters to make the following action scene feel worth it, and then the exposition scenes keep the plot moving forward without overstaying their welcome. The presences of Sean Connery and John Rhys-Davies are definitely welcome. Though Connery wasn't as good in this as I remembered, all he really does is just come along for the ride, express disbelief at the crazy situations Indy gets into, and show off his smarts. Felt a little underwhelming compared to his powerful performance in The Untouchables, but while the character may not be particularly compelling, he's definitely entertaining and still more likable than Willie in Temple of Doom (who in hindsight was herself reasonably effective as comic relief, at least compared to the likes of Jar Jar Binks!).

I was a little taken aback at the relative lack of ambition in the film compared to the previous two and the higher emphasis on comedy, but those are minor gripes. Similarly minor is that a lot of the special effects work in this film is pretty shoddy (beware the CGI Zeppelin!), but it rarely gets in the way of the action.

Overall a very fun film, better than Temple of Doom due to having a more digestible plot and a better sense of what it wants to be (Temple seemed to alternate between dark and funny scenes quite a bit), but I prefer the more serious approach and largely more memorable setpieces in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Skipping Kingdom of the Crystal Skull for now.

I saw that movie last year and thought it was pretty decent. I enjoyed Schwarzenegger's and DeVito's performances and Reitman's direction (he's the same who directed the original two Ghostbusters films).

Pick one. I mean, Star Wars was never that good, but disney have run it into the ground.

First off, is it your actual opinion that the newer Star Wars movies suck, or are you just disenfranchised with over-exposure of Star Wars?

Second, the public perception of Star Wars was already in a state of disrepair because of the prequels. In no way have the newer films visibly hurt the franchise's popularity, at worst they've just divided an already fractured fandom a little more.

Anyway, nothing wrong with saying you don't like Star Wars, whether new or old. I'm not even that big into the franchise myself (though I'm thinking of giving the original trilogy another run sometime next year).

I've been thinking of moving on to Star Wars as the next big franchise I'm re-visiting, following The Lord of the Rings, Terminator (first two only), and Indiana Jones (watched first two, going to skip fourth one). So far I'm thinking of only watching the original trilogy paying any of the other films a visit only if I'm curious about backstory/what happens next.

That's just the vibe I get: that the original trilogy is its own self-contained story and everything else is basically just an offshoot.

Whenever I catch Rogue One on TV I just think "yeah, this is Star Wars" and change the channel.

Whereas once when I caught The Force Awakens on TV I got drawn into the story for a good while.

Also once I caught a "top 40 sci-fi movies" as voted on by British viewers on TV, and strangely, Return of the Jedi was the highest-ranking Star Wars film there, at #4. The Empire Strikes Back was #5, the original was #13, The Force Awakens was #15, and Rogue One was #17. Just thought it might be interesting to share.
