As silly as haunted house movies are I really love stuff like The Conjuring, The Others, Insidious and even 13 Ghosts (which is basically a comedy). The only horror movies in my top overall list would be comedy though. Stuff like Cabin in the Woods, Drag Me To Hell, Get Out, Scream (comedy/slasher really).

What the heck are you talking about with option 7? I assumed the classic monster option covered gothic horror. And what exactly is "convenient" about a gothic horror being a period piece?

It's convenient because horror movies set in the modern day have to start with "my cell phone doesn't get reception here!" or "darnit, I dropped my cell phone down a cliff" and movies set decades ago don't have to bother. --- Not changing this sig until I decide to change this sig. My favorites are The Ring, The Babadook, Psycho, and The Sixth Sense so definitely a strong lenience toward psychological horror, with gothic, slasher, and 'spooky ghost' mixed in.
