Yeah, I feel like Monopoly can be okay as long as no one takes it seriously and there's no real pressure to actually finish the game. Those two traits rarely coincide though.

Don't know if it has a specific name, but it's basically Akinator irl that I play with my friends. One person thinks of a character and the other players take turns asking questions until one of them can guess who the character is.

Star Fox Adventures robbed tbh. Combat wasn't amazing or anything, but it also wasn't that bad. The game's atmosphere, incredible soundtrack and wonderful landscapes really makes it a worthwhile experience. Love the character designs.

The worst part of the game was that stupid button masher challenge. Fuck that.

Monopoly is better if you're playing with people who actually know how to play well, but it's still not a very good game. But since most people have no idea what they're doing, it usually ends up being a complete nightmare to play. Even worse, most people insist on adding stupid house rules that just make the game even longer and more luck-based.

116. Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls (AxemRedRanger)
uQ8b9vs

I'm actually still in the middle of playing this game, but it's been very slow going for one big reason: It's so boring. Like, there's nothing outright bad about it. I just don't have fun while I'm playing it, but at the same time, I sort of feel obligated to get through it so I can get to the Danganronpa stuff beyond it. That's not to say there's nothing good here. I actually like the friendship with Komaru and Toko. They complement each other well, and they help fill in gaps in their shortcomings. The arcade rooms where you have to take out all the Monokumas in a specific way are really fun, but they're too few and far between. I think I'd enjoy this game more if those things were more plentiful.

Now while I wouldn't strictly classify this game as survival horror, it goes for the same type of feel in many respects, and I'm not a big fan of that genre. I don't think it'd be good even by survival horror standards anyway. Everything moves way too slowly to have any real tension. While I like having a bunch of different types of ammo that produce different effects, you'll be using one type way more than the rest. Most of the other ammo types are very situational. There's not much reason to use Toko's special abilities either because the game's just not hard enough to need them, except for maybe during boss fights.

Probably the main problem with the game is that it completely removes all the best parts of Danganronpa, namely the trials and the Free Time Events. It's the same issue the Ace Attorney Investigations games have, but those games managed to develop its strengths in other areas by the second one. Maybe if there was another Danganronpa game like this, they'd be able to figure out what worked and what didn't work, and improve the game accordingly. Also, I'm not a fan of black comedy, and while the mainline games already have too much of that as is, it's ratcheted up to eleven in Ultra Despair Girls with the Warriors of Hope. I usually just have to bear with it from Monokuma, but now having to deal with it from these five kids is a bit too much. Maybe I'll come around on the game by the end, but based on the general fan reaction to the game, I'm not getting my hopes up so they can't be overcome by despair.

115. Hide-and-Seek (Xeybozn)
j7TcGw1

Hide-and-Seek is a very situational game. Technically, you can play it anywhere, but obviously, how fun it is depends on the layout of the area. The little kids at my church like to play this game in the sanctuary (not during church services, for the record), where there are literally no good hiding places, but they still seem to have fun anyway, so who am I to judge? I think this is another one of those games where I enjoy one aspect of it a lot more than the other, and it might not be the aspect you'd think. I'd much rather be the seeker than the hider. I feel like there's a much greater sense of accomplishment in being able to find everybody than just being able to dupe one person. There's a nice feeling of tension if you're the hider when you see the seeker drawing near and you're wondering if they're actually going to find you or not, but there's just a lot of waiting around.

I almost feel grateful to Xeybozn for going off the grid with his nominations because I've never thought through the logistics of all these games I played when I was a kid, and now I'm forced to confront them. It's almost cathartic in a way because it keeps me in touch with my inner child. Who knows, it might even bring out some childhood issues that I've been repressing for a long time. Now I understand why psychiatrists place so much emphasis on childhood memories in therapy. So many things there that you're not consciously aware of until you have to put them into words.

Bonus Question: Do you prefer being the hider or the seeker?

114. The Simpsons: Barts Nightmare (Robazoid)
gfQz2Hd

I'll openly admit that I'm probably being unfair to this game. It's mostly ranking this low because I was terrible at it as a kid. I feel pretty sure that if I were to play it now as an adult, I'd like it more. Bart's Nightmare is largely a shoot-em-up game with tons of stuff being thrown at you all the time, many of which can kill you in one hit. It's very unforgiving, especially considering you have to start all over when you die, both of which weren't uncommon for a lot of late 80s/early 90s video games. It feels kind of absurd in Bart's Nightmare because literally everything is trying to kill you, no matter where you are, even in the overworld trying to get to the action levels. You have to be wary of every mailbox, basketball, old lady, etc. It does a good job of working in a lot of the Simpsons "lore" (if it can be called such), so it's kind of neat if you're a fan of the show (and why would you be playing this game if you weren't?).

I loved The Simpsons growing up, and it's weird to think that it's still going 17-18 years after I stopped watching it. Anyway, Bart was always my favorite character on the show, which means I was one of the rare people who did what the show "wanted" me to do. Bart was originally supposed to be the central/most popular character, but it eventually shifted to Homer as he became the fan favorite. Look at all the SNES/Genesis era Simpsons games, and nearly all of them have you playing as Bart. So yeah, I wanted to play this game because you got to play as Bart in a lot of his fantasy personas. There's an Indiana Bart segment, a Bartzilla segment, and a Bartman segment. I do remember liking the Bartman one the most, and I remember never being able to beat the Itchy & Scratchy segment because it just goes crazy with all the stuff it throws at you. Like I said, I should probably give this game another shot sometime because I'm sure I could probably handle it now, but for now, this is where it goes.

Bonus Question: What's the most boring game you've ever played?
- The most recent one that comes to mind is Punch Club since it's basically a clicker in disguise. Don't know about most boring ever. I know a lot of Final Fantasy games tend to get really boring in places.

Bonus Question: Do you prefer being the hider or the seeker?
- The hider, depending on the kind of hide-and-seek it is. Straight up 'one person searches for those who are hidden' is fun to just see how long it takes someone to find me. I once sat in a closet for an hour before heading out to see my seeker gave up and started watching TV (to be fair, he did look in my location two or three times). I felt very proud.

Other kinds of hide-and-seek, like zombie tag where those you find also turn into seekers or ones where you have to outwit the seeker/s and get to a designated base to achieve victory are the most fun. I love figuring out the best opportunities to sneak to different cover and usually my turns as seeker to better plan out better hiding routes to victory. And I love spending the first two rounds hiding really really well and in unconventional places only to spend my third or fourth game hiding right near the start. I wish I remembered the rules better, but there were some really good games with both sight-losses, tag-losses, and zombie-tag-losses (one man against nine seekers with one minute left? Game on.)

114. Bart's Nightmare
- This was one of my most rented games. Bartzilla and Indiana Bart levels were nightmarish, but I have fond memories of Bartman, the virus level, and trying to expand my Zs as much as possible.

Bonus Question: What is your favorite video game based on a movie/TV show?
- Lord of the Rings Online was amazing, but I don't know how much that would count under this category. Based on a movie/TV Show... Oh, duh, Goldeneye.

113. Donkey Kong 64 (AxemRedRanger)
lP4MOp5

It's no secret I'm not a fan of this game. I like the simplicity of DKC1 and DKC2. They had the right amount of collectibles and bonus stuff. DKC3 added a bunch of unnecessary ones, and then DK64 took it up to eleven. It's proof positive that you can indeed put too much stuff into a game. The N64 even had to include an expansion pack with this game because of how big it was. Donkey Kong 64 either gets your hopes up or dashes them completely right off the bat, depending on your view of the DK Rap. I tend to love good cheese, so I actually like it. The game starts off fine when it's just Donkey Kong and the game is fairly straightforward, but by the time you have all the Kongs, it's just pulling you in too many different directions for my taste. Everybody's got a weapon, an instrument, collectibles only they can claim, etc.

Honestly, the sheer scale and variety of DK64 is admirable. It's just not for me. I don't really enjoy playing as the new Kongs, but you can't avoid using them because once again there are some things only a specific character can do. Eventually, the game just burned me out and I lost the will to keep playing. I don't remember how close I came to beating it, but I don't even care. Like with many of these lower tier games, my mind might change if I tried to play them again, but I have zero desire to ever revisit Donkey Kong 64.

Lot to catch up on...

Least favorite board game: Don't think I've played enough to have a least favorite. Even Monopoly doesn't bother me much.

Least favorite fighting game: The whole Mortal Kombat series

Most disappointed ever by a game and most disappointed by a sequel: Same answer for both is Guild Wars 2, always and forever.

Worst game I paid full price for: Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep

I prefer the O in Tic-Tac-Toe.

I think Star Fox Adventures would be remembered very fondly if it had remained Dinosaur Planet. Would've allowed them to deepen the already good parts of most of the rest of the game without having to throw in unnecessary Arwing stuff and things of that nature. I still like it, but I can't deny that it feels like it never really knows what it wants to be.

Least favorite spinoff: Off the top of my head, Pokemon Ranger

I don't know if I've ever even played a "guessing" game.

Most boring game I've ever played: I wouldn't say I've ever been legitimately bored by a game. I've either actively enjoyed or actively disliked everything.

Prefer being the hider.

Favorite game based on a movie or TV show: Probably one of the Dragonball Z fighting games

Favorite DK game: Never actually played one

Probably Monopoly, but I also have a general dislike for anything cooperative.

Bonus Question: What is your least favorite fighting game?

I haven't played a ton of fighting games, but I've actually never liked Mortal Kombat in any iteration I've touched.

Bonus Question: What is the most disappointed you have ever been by a game?

Sands of Destruction for DS. I was pretty hyped for that game and boy what a mess that thing was.

Bonus Question: What is the worst game you paid full price for?

Tough to say for all time, I can't remember all the bad purchases I made. In recent memory (the last year), I think Yooka-Laylee.

Bonus Question: Do you prefer to play as X or O in Tic-Tac-Toe?

X for life.

Bonus Question: What is the most disappointed you have been by a sequel?

Xenoblade 2 is making a very strong case.

Bonus Question: What's your least favorite spinoff game?

Not sure if it fully counts as a spinoff, but Gat out of Hell was really bad, and I loved Saints Row 3 and 4.

112. Sonic Spinball (Drakeryn)
XgC708X

I love Sonic, and I love pinball, so this felt like a good mashup concept. This would've been better as just a straight up pinball game instead of trying to have boss fights, enemies, collectibles, objectives, and all that. I think part of the problem is that the maps are too big, and the areas largely look the same, so it's hard to figure out where you've been and where you haven't been, so you wind up doing the same things over and over again until maybe you eventually beat the level. Plus, it'd be nice if there were more level types, and you could choose which one you wanted to do instead of having to do them in a set order.

It feels like this game should've been better than it was because Sonic seems like a natural fit for something like this. The game looks good and sounds good, but it's one of those weird situations where they went too far on some things while not going far enough with others. Plus, there's no real replay value here once you've beaten it, which is the weakness of it not being just a straight up pinball game where you shoot for high scores. It's a good concept marred by bad execution.

111. Michael Jordan: Chaos in the Windy City (AxemRedRanger)
L2ZC6yQ

If you grew up watching basketball in the '90s, you probably loved Michael Jordan. However, if you were a video game kid who loved Michael Jordan, it was surprisingly difficult to find games with Jordan in it because he wouldn't give his consent to be included in a lot of games. NBA Jam just isn't the same when the Bulls are comprised of Scottie Pippen, Horace Grant, and...B.J. Armstrong. So when Jordan starred in his own game, where he used basketballs the way he probably secretly dreamed of always using them--to bludgeon people to death and destroy buildings--I wanted to play it. Everything about the game looks absurd. Jordan has to rescue basketball players who've been captured by a dude named Max Cranium, whose swollen head because of his oversized brain looks like a basketball, and has minions whose heads are literally basketballs. You collect Wheaties boxes to regain health. You spend most of the game inside a dilapidated laboratory. Jordan still dribbles the ball as he walks even though there's no penalty for traveling here (that's dedication to your craft). There are basketball goals hanging around everywhere for no real reason.

But it's actually kind of fun, and the game is pretty tough. You can get different basketball "powers," like fireballs, iceballs, and earthquake balls, and the powers operate differently depending on whether you throw or dunk. It all sounds patently absurd, and it is, but it still kinda works. Like, I wouldn't hold it up as a seminal platformer or anything, obviously. The level design and the aesthetics are nothing special. Flying enemies in particular are pretty annoying because it can be hard to hit them with such small projectiles, but it's playable. Also, I had one of my biggest random strokes of good luck playing this game. There's a password system in this game, and I decided to fool around to see if I could randomly input a valid one. I actually managed to get one that puts you right before the final level, so that was neat.

As far as games go I guess I'd probably say Jak II, which I think is a pretty fantastic game. Not sure if people think it's bad, by at least see it generally cited as the worst of the trilogy.

I love the gameplay of all the Jak trilogy games, but yeah, it has worse platforming than 1 and worse gunplay and fucking arounditude than 3, plus completely bullshit checkpoints.

What's the most boring game you've ever played?

EarthBound Beginnings. That game is 95% grinding. Ended up just watching anime while playing most of it.

What is your favorite video game based on a movie/TV show?

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban on PS2 was tons of fun. It's probably not as good as I remember, though.

What is your favorite game that is generally considered to be "bad?"

Binary Domain. Fantastic game, and I don't care what anyone says.
