Haters have a tendency to go overboard and voice their negative opinions a lot more loudly. Most of the people I talk to in real life loved the movie and I just pretend the people who hate it are a vocal minority.

And most of that "disappointment" is again, babies not getting their way. There are some legitimate criticisms, but basically none of the complaints fall into that category.

I have mixed feelings on the film. I don't "hate" it. But good for you in your anecdotal evidence to suggest most people enjoyed the film.

Well, most people did. Even here on this board we had more people that liked it than didn't. It's just the people that do like something don't have a lot to say, because it's just "I liked this part and this part and yadda yadda". There's only so much we can say about something we like.

But when someone hates something, they can go on for hours about what they didn't like. That makes it seem there's more hate toward the movie than there really is.

Most of us don't try to involve ourselves in the arguments because it's pointless. It's almost impossible to convince someone to change their opinion, especially if it's negative so we just don't bother...

Which is why I'm gonna stop bothering with this lol

That being said, I remember walking out of it going "...Huh." more than anything. I'm pretty set in my mind that I enjoyed TFA more than TLJ, basically going on the mindset that a fine re-telling/re-imagining of the original Star Wars was more enjoyable than a movie that was kinda all over the place.

The fact that I keep seeing "AotC was better" on other websites leads me to believe that people have truly lost their minds. I'll take a well-acted if flawed movie over a poorly-acted and flawed one.

Part of it is middle movie syndrome. Its why I like IV more than V. IV tells a neat and tidy story on its own, but V needs context. Likewise for VII and VIII.

I like VIII more than V though because we did get some self-contained plot. Rey and Finn are in the middle of their journies, so the movie was about Kylo and Luke instead. They both had actual full character arcs set entirely within TLJ, and its fitting they got to be the focus of the climax

Honestly even after I saw it the first time, I thought some things were weird but I still loved it overall. And those things that bothered me actually became my favorite aspects of the movie after thinking about it and seeing it four more times.

For instance, I thought it was weird Rey's parents were nobody because I expected her to be a Skywalker. I was a bit sad there was no big lightsaber duel. I was hoping Luke would show off his immense Force power against the First Order. Some other little things probably, so yeah even I had little expectations that weren't met, but I didn't let them bring the movie down. I accepted that those things didn't happen, and I'm actually really happy they didn't. Because then I would have predicted everything and that's boring.

This movie caught me off guard at almost every turn and that's what I loved so much. Movies don't do that anymore. Especially not big blockbusters like this. I can't remember the last time a Marvel movie ever "shocked" me. I don't think that's ever happened actually, although it doesn't help that I have extensive knowledge of the comics but even so they could at least try to add some twists.

V is a brilliant film without VI, though.

My biggest issue is that we're telling the same stories we've told for 6 movies now. Evil Empire! Noble Resistance! Brink of annihilation without a miracle! Etc.

You can rearrange the pieces all you want but I keep asking myself "why did this story need to be told?" Why couldn't we have seen what a fledgling new Republic was like? Why couldn't the First Order be a terrorist group, hoping to reinstate a galactic empire? Why did we need another superweapon but BIGGER?

Imagine having what looks like a massive victory, where you defeat the literal Emperor and his latest superweapon and not have it mean shit because 30 years later there will be a new emperor and a bigger, better superweapon. What is even the point of this struggle?

History repeating itself is something Star Wars does. That's why it's happening again in the sequels. It's also because these are the first new Star Wars movies we're getting, so they have to retread stuff to get people back into the groove.

Once this sequel trilogy is over I expect we'll start seeing crazier things. Can't wait to see what Rian Johnson's other trilogy will be.

It's funny because KotOR follows this pattern, too. Then KotOR 2 completely fucks with it in a way that makes me appreciate it so much more at my age.

I'm just dreading IX because it feels like there will be some sort of superweapon to give Poe a thing to do.

I missed the massive superweapon in the PT.

In fact, think about the ending to RotS. It's literally two guys fighting on a lava planet with nothing at stake at that point.

The endless waltz!

It will always keep happening in real life so each new generation needs their own fable for it.

And this time its finally intersectional!

Also theres this really amazing undertone to the sequels about a postwar generation struggling to find their way in the world/galaxy, faced with fitting within archaic systems they never asked to be forced into.

The whole Kylo Ren speech about dumping all of it, Jedi, Sith, Resistance, Empire, and rebooting the galaxy should end up resonating somehow when this trilogy is done beyond just a tease of something much more interesting that the film decided to abandon.

It's just ridiculous that in this imaginary world with so many interesting places and ideas to explore and they go with... Empire vs. Rebellion. Again. For the sixth film. And no closure meaning it will be a core concept to Episode IX as well.

Like shit on Lucas as a writer and director, but conceptually the PT is far, far better than the ST. It sought to tell a story of how a noble Jedi Knight becomes an evil tyrant, how a Republican that stood for thousands of years would fall so quickly, how the world fell into darkness. And none of it was based on "Empire vs. Rebellion."

The ST conceptually just hangs over the entire thing like a lead balloon. It's got much better writing and acting, but the story it seeks to tell is just not interesting anymore. We're 8 for 9 on "an army of soldiers in white armor" for this movie series.

And I dare you to show me a post showing I got offended for B8 chuckleheads disagreeing with me. All I see is a defense force assembled to sing the praises of the film while chastising any and all criticism.

The music stuff is obvious, excepting the Siegfried thing. The latter opera reference is likely just being looked into too much.

The whispers thing was cool and easy to miss, but they cited a recent book for creating the Jedi code there, when I'm pretty sure it's been around from the EU.

Besides the whole "only reason I'm not telling you the real escape plan is 'cause we have to keep the secret to the audience, causing needless tension between our characters"? And don't give me the bullshit of he was demoted. Commander is still a high-ranking officer and he's probably among the highest ranked officers left, since a good chunk of command got blown up previously (RIP Ackbar. He should have been the one to sacrifice himself; not some character we just met and have no emotional attachment to).
