Mena was fine, it was the direction that was the problem.

"great everyone's all together again"

I will remember that line for the rest of my days because of how utterly terrible and lifeless it is

that's not the direction's fault

you know I'm wondering what's the longest a case takes to get to the crime because this is taking a while

I almost said just murder, but not every case is a murder, and if we're limiting it to just cases with murders, the answer is easily 3-2 because you don't find out until the very end of trial day 1

I guess the only competition here is 2-4, 3-5, and...I feel like E1-5 took a while, too.

Who was somehow better than Mandy Moore.

this is an actually unbelievable take

like you may not think Mandy Moore did a good job (I think she did) but Mena Suvari is an all-time bad performance by someone who is an actual actor

The Dance of Deduction where Sherlock posits that Egg Benedict is attempting to get a job at the pawn shop so he can dig a secret tunnel to the bank across the street is loosely the plot of an actual Holmes story called "The Red-Headed League."

Maybe, but I'm not there yet! Susato frequently gets her hopes dashed when she learns the reality doesn't quite measure up to the stories, and it's great.

The AA wiki doesn't seem to regard them as the same person. Juror No. 3 kind of has a "blocky" head compared to Furst, so I think they are different guys.

Honestly I didn't even realize it was actually Sebastian Stan in that episode, the voice acting was so bad.

Yeah, I never would've guessed it was him if I didn't see his name in the credits.

Yeah, everyone else is rightly shocked that Edgeworth says it and Phoenix calls him out on it later, so it's not like we're supposed to believe "wow so cool" that he said it.

Suicide feels like an uncomfortable topic even when they handle it seriously, like in 2-4, there's almost something perverse about the relatively clinical (even if thoroughly sympathetic) way they talk about Adrian's attempted suicide. so it's super weird to treat someone who obviously has manic depression as a joke

one of the low key "I can't believe they actually said that" moments is when Edgeworth tells Adrian he doesn't care if she kills herself or not

Like, I get he's mostly just calling Adrian's bluff to get her to confess, but still

I feel like Windibank is possibly the most ill-advised comic relief this series has ever attempted

and this is coming from a series that has a case where panty snatching is a major element

but yeah, joking about suicide is in poor taste and not really something you should be doing as a running gag

Oh, nice, you get trophy for getting the conversation about "the woman" by examining the mantle here, which is the aforementioned Irene Adler (Holmes rarely refers to her by name; she is just "the woman" most of the time).

Case 5 is The Adventure of the Unspeakable Story, and it's referring to The Hound of the Baskervilles, perhaps the most famous Sherlock Holmes story, for good reason. If you wanted to read one Sherlock Holmes story just to see what the big deal is, this is the one I would recommend. It's one of the four full-length novels, and it's one of the very few Holmes stories that has a supernatural element to it.

G1-4 complete! This case has a really good set of characters. We just have a situation once again where the solution to the mystery is inherently unsatisfying. I remember the epic case here being quite good, so hopefully it will deliver.

Well, they weren't married during 6-6! They got married at the end! But yeah, I guess they can technically count.

And I always forget the Kitakis. It feels strange to call them happily married, but I suppose it works.

Wilson (now clearly a Watson type)

He actually IS Watson. His name got changed to Wilson for the same copyright reasons we ended up with Herlock Sholmes.

SeabassDebeste posted...
And he's still got his cough, so I assume that wasn't poison-related.

My assumption is that he has tuberculosis. It doesn't seem to be relevant beyond just a reference to a disease that was more commonplace back then.

SeabassDebeste posted...
Sholmes doesn't speak Japanese, so we're presumably speaking English to Sholmes. Interesting - no indication that we've swapped languages, or that we're struggling to speak it.

Ryunosuke and Kazuma both state they've been taking English classes at Yumei, and presumably Susato has as well for this trip.

You can tell when they've switched languages when their honorifics change from Japanese ones like -san/sama to regular English ones like Mr/Mrs.

There are definitely moves in Mario RPGs that work this way! And because the numbers are so low, the pity 1 damage or whatever you get on failed commands can still be fairly punishing.

For certain moves, but generally not for standard attacks. Plus, I'd prefer the timing to coincide with the actual attack rather than some sort of pre-attack ring.

I enjoy the various Holmes references at Baker Street. Also, I knew Iris had a penchant for giving literally everyone nicknames, so I wondered what they'd settle on in the English version. Susie for Susato seemed like an obvious one, but Ryunosuke's name doesn't lend itself to anything in English other than Ryu (but only because of Street Fighter). "Runo" is a solid choice because it would be difficult for someone like Iris to make that "Ryu" sound in English.

They also went with Hurley for Holmes, but I wonder what they'd have gone with if they could've used the real name. Surely not Sherley, you'd think...?

I like that one of the English phrases Soseki said he kept repeating to the police was "I'm fine."

Susato refers to the King of Bohemia visiting Holmes at Baker Street, and it's a reference to one of the earliest Holmes stories, appropriately entitled "A Scandal in Bohemia." The story introduced a character named Irene Adler. Moriarty is known now as Holmes' greatest rival, but Irene Adler was the first character who could rival him and earn his respect.

Hmmm...So if Soseki Natsume is 33 during this case, that would make it the year 1900 or 1901. He was in England from 1901-1903, so I guess that would be the range of this game.

...Of course the Great Exhibition from GAA2 took place in 1851, so I guess Takumi's playing fast and loose with history here! Plus, we're technically in an alternate reality in the Ace Attorney world anyway.

Mr Grimesby Roylott. That's a guilty man's name.

I'm not sure how familiar you are with Holmes stories, but this is indeed the name of the culprit of the Speckled Band story this case is loosely based on. It's an interesting bit of misdirection that you'll only catch if you've read the story.

Dragon Ball Z Episode 139 complete!

Huh, so Trunks's actions in the past don't change his future. They just create a branching parallel universe (The TVA in Loki wouldn't stand for this!). Future Bulma decided their world was beyond saving, so she sent Trunks to a world that could still be saved.

But now there's a second, older time capsule, too. Could it be that Trunks traveled further into the past like they discussed, and there's another Trunks running around in the present day now? Maybe he's one of the androids...!
