I wanted the Saints to win because that's my wife's team, but I'm also never rooting for Brady to win, although it's not really because of him. I've always low-key liked him. It's more because the media slurps him every time he wins, even when he nearly loses them the game instead of winning it.

nah it's fine, I don't really care about your "picking" accuracy, you're just doing the same thing everyone who's trying to talk themselves into the Bucs winning is doing

"KC's O-Line is too beat up, the Bucs are secretly just as talented as the Chiefs!" this is what I've been hearing on my sports podcasts all week

the Chiefs have the top three most talented players in this game and Mahomes is a cheat code that negates all your advantages anyway, it's like playing the Durant era Warriors

the Bucs can win but they basically have to play an A game to do so, while the Chiefs can do what they did in the Super Bowl last year and still win by 10

Day 12: Best End Boss Theme
Final Fantasy VIII - The Extreme
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVkcmx2l3WA

There are many good final boss themes, but this is the only one I'd consider to be in contention for my favorite track in the series. Just that slow opening gradually escalating into the full blown song is so good. It keeps you on your toes for the entire track.

I thought it was notable that they went out of their way to make a joke out of the fact that Wanda has no superhero alias - could have just been a simple joke but it feels like it could be setup for something, idk, they have the rights to the X-Men now right?

Yeah, I thought that was weird, too. Maybe he just didn't want to say "Scarlet Witch" because "witch" has negative connotations because it seems like he was trying to bait him into calling her that.

Back to Cold Steel IV Act 3!

I guess it's time to figure out who will be the recipient of my final bonding point! Let's start with Musse. They decide to go to the beach together for some reason. She talks about her parents and how her father teaching her various games was when she learned she had a latent ability to "read" situations. This is definitely the weakest bond scene so far in this batch, but it also gives Musse a new entry. That means I'll have to keep this one unless I totally botched handling this and I'm going to miss multiple entries! Well, only Towa can get a new entry between her and Celine, so maybe I'll luck out!

So let's go ahead and watch Celine's since I know I won't be keeping it. She's talking to a birdlike familiar, but it's definitely not Grianos. They disappear together, and he follows her to the forest outside of Eryn Village. Apparently, Vita has been training Celine using an illusion of Grianos. Looks like Celine feels inferior to Grianos and feels the added pressure to get stronger after Roselia designated her as her heir. She also admits that getting to know Rean and Class VII has made her go beyond merely her duties as Emma's familiar. Eh, this one was okay, too. Nothing special.

Now let's see what Towa has in store. The SSS has found some information into the accident where her parents died. Rean convinced her to go with him to the Nord Highlands along with Gaius under the pretense of doing recon for the war effort. Rean and Towa look over the area where the airship went down, and she says all the evidence was cleaned up and covered up. They offer some flowers. That was a good scene, and it adds a profile entry, so I screwed this segment up, augh. Looks like I should've skipped Alfin's in exchang for Musse's since five of the eight scenes added profile entries, and I wasn't skipping Laura's. Oh well!

I found a cryptid on the beach, and it went down without much of a fight, which surprised me! I also found a Trial Chest for Rean/Alisa/Fie/Jusis. And messing around with accessories and quartz, Tita has 55,000+ HP now lawl. At Edel's rest lodge, we trigger a sidequest involving Grace, Thomas, and Nielsen. Thomas says he couldn't help us during the incident on the Pantagruel because he'd been searching for the final volume of the Black Records, which deals with what happens after the Great Twilight. Apparently, Nielsen found it and is willing to part with it for the low, low price of an interview with Rean. This essentially becomes a history lesson on Erebonia and its surrounding neighbors, which is fine because it's neat information.

And that's enough for tonight.

Let's play Cold Steel IV Act 3!

Okay, it's sidequest time. Well, really, it's more like "revisit old locations and do the sidequests when you get to the appropriate area" time! First up is Leeves. Edel, Mary, and Makarov say they're working on Operation Shining Steel, whatever that means. We also run into Agate and Schera on our way to Radio Trista to take care of Munk's request. He wants to record a radio drama with Rean, Edel, Vivi, Dorothee, and Beryl. The first three are easy enough since they're on the Courageous or in Leeves, but we have to head to Eryn to find Beryl, so let's do that next. Recruiting Beryl last automatically starts the radio drama, so that's convenient! Also, I love how Beryl finding her way into Eryn confuses the heck out of everyone in the village.

I keep traveling around looking for new stuff. I head to Milsante to take on Gallie, and I find Anton there, still looking for Sharon. Gallie doesn't prove to be too difficult. Also, I'm impressed that the game felt the need to mark something new at the Luna Shrine altar, and all it was is an accessory to make Rean's hair look like Osborne's! I applaud your thoroughness! I decided to go ahead and get the "noise" readings sidequest out of the way, and it wasn't too bad either.

More later.

Once again, I'm going to do regular and special themes because this is such a loaded category. Last boss music is a different day, so I won't include that here, obviously.

Day 10: Best Boss Battle Theme
Regular Boss Theme: Final Fantasy VIII - Force Your Way
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZMWszd5SRk

Special Boss Theme: Final Fantasy V - Clash on the Big Bridge
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dghlAQDQneU

I almost decided to give boss theme to FFXIII for a clean sweep, but pretty much every boss theme from IV to XIII is in contention here (except for IX and X, which are fine but not top tier).

There are a lot of good choices for special boss theme because those tend to be some of the best songs on any FF soundtrack, but I had to give it to FFV here. Special recognition for Decisive Battle from FFVI, J-E-N-O-V-A from FFVII, Premonition, Legendary Beast, and Maybe I'm a Lion from FFVIII, The Dark Messenger from FFIX (probably my runner-up all things considered), Challenge from FFX, and Apocalypsis Aquarius from FFXV.

All right, let's play some Cold Steel IV Act 3!

The next chapter begins with everyone pondering the implications of everything they just witnessed. If anything, this has (cold) steeled Rean's resolve to go through all these Rivalries. Although now that I think about it, if Dreichels was known as the Lionhearted Emperor and Osborne is Dreichels reincarnated, wouldn't that make Rean the Lionhearted one since he literally has Osborne's heart inside him? We've learned that the Palatinate Knight (Rutger) is at the Draco Shrine in Sutherland, and the Argent Knight (Arianrhod) is at the Stella Shrine in Crossbell. We decide to face off with Rutger first since he's closer. Turns out Towa wants to tag along for this part, but we don't have any required party members for this part for once. It sounds like we aren't actually fighting Rutger today, which is why Fie isn't mandatory, I'm guessing. Anyway, the randomizer gives us Laura, Emma, Gaius, Kurt, and Tita. Not bad.

Towa's Brave Order will be available to us now that she's traveling with us, and we can use Celine's Brave Order when Emma's in the party, too, so that's helpful. We can visit Ordis again now as well. Now we've got some new sidequests to do, as well as some bonding points to spend. Our options are Sara, Musse, Gaius, Towa, Laura, Kurt, Alfin, and Celine. The natural omission is Celine, but we'll see! The requests are from Kaela, Munk, and an extermination request for Lake Gala's very own Gallie! Wasn't expecting that to show up just as a sidequest. We've also got an optional sidequest from Valerie to help Louise and Tatiana to search for some communications "noise."

Might as well go ahead and do the bonding events I'm sure I want to do, so we'll start with Sara. She wants to try to visit her adoptive father's grave again, hopefully with fewer zombies this time. Governor Regnitz gave us the flag from the naval fortress to lay on his grave. They decide to...burn the flag and it makes all the black Pleroma Grass disappear. All right then. There honestly wasn't much to this scene, but we maxed out the bond, got our second heart, and got a new profile entry, so I guess it all worked out!

Looks like we can do training exercises now. The level 1 fights are pretty easy, as expected. Actually, looking at it, Celine's profile is already maxed out, so I don't have anything to worry about with her. I guess I can just move on to using bond points on everyone else! So next up is Gaius. They decide to pay a visit to Bardias. They have a sparring match that ends in a draw, so they decide to have a joust with horses, which Bardias wins handily. Gaius realizes he had become so focused on becoming a member of the Gralsritter that he'd lost sight of who he was as a citizen of Nord. He challenges Bardias to a rematch and holds his own this time. Pretty good scene, and we get a new profile entry!

Alfin received a letter with the seal of the royal family calling her out to the Heimdallr field exercise camp. My curiosity is piqued by what this could be. My guess is that it's from Cedric, and I was right. He wants Alfin to leave the Courageous II and go into hiding with their mother so she can be safe. He doesn't think she can make any real impact by being on the frontlines because there's nothing she's doing that can't be done by someone just as capable, if not more so. Cedric appeals to Rean's big brother instincts, and he can't exactly refute him. Alfin acknowledges that she's felt powerless lately, but most of all for letting Cedric become what he is now. He cares more about power than he does about his own family. With that, Cedric leaves in frustration and Alfin is emotionally spent. Good scene, and that maxes out Alfin for me as well!

Next up, Kurt has a letter of his own from Mueller. There are some family matters he asked him to take care of, so we head to Parm. Mueller is waiting for us at the family training hall. It turns out he found Roland Vander's other twin sword. Mueller is willing to let him have it if we can beat him in battle. He sees the relationship between Rean and Kurt as similar to the one between Dreichels and Roland Vander, but Mueller isn't going to let his brother die young. Unfortunately, we don't actually get to fight him, but we prevail nonetheless. I do wonder if this scene is different if you don't go with Kurt to find the first sword. Regardless, we can now change the appearance of his swords in the menu, like with Jusis, so that's cool.

Oh hey, I can play Pom Party against Tita now. It takes a couple of tries, but I beat her. Anyway, moving on to Laura, she wants to finish up her trying on Bryonia Island in case the time comes when we have to fight her father. Shortly after arriving, we somehow trigger the arrival of the thing we fought in the Old Schoolhouse. They think the shell of the Sept-Terrion in some way activated it. Since we're in some alternate dimension, we can't summon Valimar or the other Class VII members, so Rean and Laura have to fend it off themselves. Unfortunately, this also mostly done offscreen, although we do get some barebones presentations of their S-Crafts. Afterwards, Laura confesses her love for Rean, and I'm thinking someone on the staff was a big Rean/Laura shipper and I'm glad this person exists.

Huh, I just noticed that even with an extra bond point, I've got three to choose from between Towa, Musse, and Celine! Unless there's a way to get two extra bond points this time around. Then I trigger a sidequest with Maya where she confronts her father. Turns out agreeing to help this time means going straight into it! He challenges her to a contest of marksmanship with a sniper and a spotter. Rean will be Maya's spotter, and naturally, Lechter's just hanging around to be the spotter for her dad. Fortunately, it's just a series of three choices.

More later.

there wasn't going to be a "let's put a nice little bow on it and give everyone a happy ending" choice so everyone has to pick the one that's the least problematic for them
