I usually don't struggle with replaying my favorites. It's been extremely rare that I've played a game that I grew up loving and then just couldn't bear replaying it.

In my case, there are a lot of games I haven't played in years that I think I would still rank highly just based on my nostalgic memories of them because I still remember how great those games made me feel in the moment (like tran mentioned earlier with something like Shadow Hearts 2).

maybe I need to make a top 100 list of my own

#6. Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker

The Good: There's so much fanservice and nostalgia in here that it feels like a lovingly crafted farewell letter to the fans. It's reminiscent of the Citadel DLC in Mass Effect 3 in that regard. It was nice to see them give good roles to C-3PO (who somehow crafts some of the funniest and most emotional moments in the movie) and Chewbacca (who finally got the medal he should've gotten back in Episode IV). It was fun seeing Lando again, too. I found it hilarious that the sequels finally acknowledged the prequels with Palpatine's throwback to an Episode III quote when the first two movies basically pretended they didn't exist, but I guess now they had a new movie to pretend didn't exist...! Perhaps the most unexpected moments were the Wedge cameo and the Han cameo (since I figured Harrison Ford was ready to be done with the series after Episode VII and it's not like Han was going to have a Force Ghost). I was glad to finally see Rey, Finn, and Poe get some dedicated time together, and while they'll never measure up to Luke, Han, and Leia as a trio, they're pretty fun here.

The Bad: They expend way too much effort trying to undo the stuff the fanbase didn't like from Episode VIII. As I said before, I do appreciate that they tried to craft something as a tribute to the fans, there are times you don't need to listen to the fans. Rey being a nobody was one of the best things Episode VIII did, and they backpedaled super hard to give her a famous heritage. I kinda wish they had stuck by keeping Kylo Ren a villain instead of trying to redeem him and then promptly kill him off, too. I also feel like they try a little too hard to wrap up every single thing in one movie to the point that they don't really give satisfactory explanations for them. I thought Episode IX was just supposed to be the end of this current arc, not the end of episodic Star Wars as a whole, but I guess I was mistaken! I mentioned this to user SaveEstelle when we discussed this privately, but Episode IX reminds me a lot of Metal Gear Solid 4. They feel obligated to try to give you answers to everything, even if it's basically the equivalent of "nanomachines." I also wonder if it won't be like MGS4 in the sense that, the more people remove themselves from the emotional highs of the movie and start thinking about all the issues and inconsistencies, they might not think so highly of it. When I first beat MGS4, I thought it was one of the five best games I had ever played. Now I'm not sure I'd consider it a top 50 game (maybe I should make a list to find out...!). Also, I've touched on this before, but the Rey/Ben kiss was gross and had no reason to exist. There was no sexual/romantic tension between them up to this point.

The Best: Other than the aforementioned kiss above, I thought Rey was great in this movie. I'm not a superfan of hers the way user SaveEstelle is, but I appreciated her arc here as she struggled with her heritage and her own failures. I loved the scene with her exploring the ruins of the second Death Star, as well as the moment where all the Jedi spoke to her at the end (reminded me of a similar moment toward the end of Kingdom Hearts III!). I also loved the new little droid they introduced (Dio was its name, right? They only mentioned it in passing), as well as the little alien that hacked C-3PO. Ultimately, if you can give me a story with a good cast and cast chemistry, I'll be satisfied, and Episode IX definitely delivered on that front, regardless of its other shortcomings.

honestly Tidus is one of my favorite characters precisely because of moments like that

whether it's doing weird impressions of the other characters in the game or randomly in throwing a Macarena reference I usually find it hilarious

also they did have Barret do the whole "I know you can hear the Planet crying out in pain!" thing in the most recent trailer so they did incorporate a corny line there!

You say that, but they've kept all the potential weird/corny lines out of the trailers

I'd consider them action RPGs in the vein of something like Kingdom Hearts.

And honestly I would love FFVIIR even more if they somehow snuck "This guy are sick" in there!

This is why I changed my mind on wanting an FF9 remake when I heard Zidane speaking for the first time. FF9 has a lot of goofy lines that I love but don't ever want to be heard.

Well, Zidane's VA in Dissidia really wasn't that good, but yeah, in FFIX, he definitely says a lot of cringe-worthy pick up lines that would come across awkwardly with full voice acting.

I guess we'll get a good idea of how it impacts people's enjoyment of a game with FFVIIR!

I actually think FFX gets much better if you either add a scene skip button or just removed voice acting altogether.

Yeah, I was really confused why the Remaster didn't add a scene skip option. I don't ever really skip scenes when replaying a game (since the story is usually part of the reason I'm playing it), but it should at least be an option for people who do.

I think FFX actually starts really slowly and doesn't really get good until Operation Mi'ihen. The first couple hours in particular are really tough to get through, and I say this as someone who considers this one of his favorite games.

The gameplay is basic, but the CTB is fun and the ability to freely swap between anyone in your party on the fly is one of the best mechanics in any RPG.

#7. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

The Good: Star Wars hasn't really done the ragtag band of misfits trope before this (although The Mandalorian is trying to have a rotating cast of misfits), and I think they did pretty well here. I really like Jyn Erso, Chirrut, and K-2SO, who is the best droid in Star Wars to date. I wasn't a huge fan of Cassian, but he was decent enough by the end. Also, it was great to see Darth Vader in action again, rampaging and destroying people left and right. That might be the last time we ever hear James Earl Jones as Vader. I know some people didn't like the "Don't choke on your own ambitions" joke, but I thought it was right in line with stuff like, "Apology accepted, Captain Needa." I also enjoyed the Princess Leia cameo at the end, obvious CGI or not. It's so weird to think Carrie Fisher passed away only a week or so after the movie came out.

The Bad: It takes a really long time for Rogue One to get going. Plus, with this being a prequel, you do already know how this is going to end up, so all of the time Jyn insists she's not going to help the rebellion feels empty because, well, you know she ultimately will. The CGI on Leia and Tarkin is a little rough, and while I do love James Earl Jones as Vader, he does sound his age a bit with this performance, which made me feel a little sad because that's one of the most iconic voices in cinema.

The Best: The final battle as they try to steal the Death Star plans is easily the highlight of the movie and makes up for the slow pacing up to this point. Before the movie came out, I had a pretty strong feeling that the entire team was going to die because there had to be a reason you don't hear from these guys in the OT or the ST. I mean, I guess they could have gone into hiding because that's what Star Wars heroes do, but still, I do appreciate that they all did the heroic sacrifice pretty well. It didn't feel cheap or contrived. It's definitely one of the best Star Wars climaxes.

I remember being able to get to the end of Mario World and Sonic 2 at a really young age, although those games aren't as tough as an NES Mega Man.

Still, I remember never being able to consistently beat Silver Sonic in Sonic 2 as a kid, and replaying it as an adult, I realized it was simple pattern recognition that I somehow never picked up on as a little kid.

I was never a Mega Man purist in terms of mechanics or aesthetics. I actually liked MM7 quite a lot. MM8 was kind of a mess, but I think that was more because they tried to incorporate a serious story into it than the gameplay itself. I guess that's why I never bothered with MM9 and MM10 because a throwback to NES Mega Man isn't anything I was clamoring for. MM11 seems like it might be more up my alley.

Low-key the best thing about the movie was the song that was playing as Rey was exploring the ruins of the Death Star. The haunting and ancient sounding harp notes overlaid with the strings playing a somber version of the Imperial March was just *chef's kiss*

And yes, this moment was fantastic. I totally agree that it was a great rendition of the Imperial March that fit the moment so well.
