Match 2: Wolf ODonnell vs. Pac-Man

Sephiroth: One semifinal matchup is set, but who will take the first spot in the second match here?

*Pac-Man starts off fighting well and takes the early advantage. Wolf tries to land some big hits but cant keep up with Pac-Mans pace, who nails him with a side-smash to KO him (Pac-Man 3-2)*

Crono: Pac-Man is setting the tone early and forcing Wolf to adapt to his style.

*Pac-Man stays on the attack and keeps Wolf on edge. However, Pac-Man nearly self-destructs chasing Wolf off the side but just barely manages to get back. Wolf launches Pac-Man with his up-B but cant quite KO him as a Smash Ball drops onto the stage. Wolf tries to crack it open but knocks it off the side before he can. Unfortunately, it drops right next to Pac-Man, who breaks it open with one hit and immediately uses his Final Smash to KO Wolf (Pac-Man 3-1)*

Sephiroth: Tough break for Wolf as he stares down a seemingly insurmountable deficit.

*Wolf comes back swinging wildly and misses a few times, but then he catches Pac-Man with his side-air for the KO (Pac-Man 2-1)*

Crono: Wolf couldve just phoned the rest of the match in, but hes still giving it his all out there.

*The two quickly take the fight off the side, and Wolf hits Pac-Man with his up-B to bounce him off the underside of the stage for a KO. However, Wolf cant quite get back to the ledge, so he drops to his doom to end the match (Pac-Man wins, 1-0)*

Sephiroth: Pac-Man wins! Just a couple of really bad breaks for Wolf right when it looked like he was going to get the break he needed. He wouldve been in a position to make the impossible comeback if he had been able to get back to the stage there.

Crono: This was a fast match, only lasting a little over two minutes. Pac-Man won despite only dealing 200% of damage, but the peak damage for Wolf was only 108% and only 129% for Pac-Man.

Middleweight Tournament

Match 1: Villager vs. Lucario

Sephiroth: Villager had a surprise win last week, but Lucario has looked like the favorite in this tournament so far. Hell be tough to beat.

*Both fighters battle evenly at first, and they quickly end up duking it out off the stage. They almost get trapped under the stage, but they manage to get back. They continue to trade blows, neither one getting a clear advantage. Lucario knocks Villager off the side and tries to land a couple of meteor strikes but cant quite hit them. A Smash Ball appears, and Villager launches Lucario off the top of the stage with his up-smash as he cracks it open (Villager 3-2)*

Crono: Uh oh, Villager takes the early lead and is in good position to extend it right now!

*When Lucario returns, he dashes straight up to Villager and blasts him with his side-smash to KO him before he can use his Final Smash (2-2)*

Sephiroth: Lucario was well aware of the danger he was in, so he dealt with it as quickly as possible.

*As the match continues, the two fighters stay evenly matched, trading blows and building percentage at roughly the same rate. They meet in the air and Lucario nearly launches Villager with his up-air. A Smash Ball appears, and Lucario gets it. He uses his Final Smash immediately to KO Villager (Lucario 2-1)*

Crono: That Final Smash is tough to deal with for anyone.

*Villager aggressively charges after Lucario to get a quick KO. He pockets a fully charged Lucario projectile and nearly hits him with it when he unleashes it a bit later. He spams his projectile repeatedly to build his percentage and then eventually nails him with his side-air for the KO (1-1)*

Sephiroth: Villager is a sizable underdog here, but hes fighting like someone who expects to win.

*Once again, the two fight very far below the stage, and Lucario repeatedly hits him trying to drive him down too far beyond recovery but with no success. They continue to rack up damage on each other as another Smash Ball appears. Lucario grabs it and uses his Final Smash to end the match (Lucario wins, 1-0)*

Sephiroth: Lucario wins! That was his toughest test yet, but he manages to survive and advance.

Crono: This was a slobberknocker that lasted nearly five minutes. Villager dealt more damage despite taking two Final Smashes and never getting to use the one he got. Lucario having such a devastating finisher proves to be a valuable advantage in these close matches.

Today's results:

Banjo-Kazooie defeats R.O.B., 1-0

Wario defeats Mii Swordfighter (Zero), 1-0

Simon Belmont defeats Bowser, 1-0

Ridley defeats Terry Bogard, 2-0

Literally only one person had Simon beating Bowser this week, so it's only fitting that IfGodCouldDie was the only perfect 4-0 for the day.

Match 4: Ridley vs. Terry Bogard

Sephiroth: Ridley was an absolute monster in his debut last week. How will he do against Terry, whos on a hot streak himself?

*Terry repeatedly hits Ridley with his neutral-B and then nearly self-destructs with his down-B but manages to recover. Ridley keeps hitting Terry when he comes back and eventually knocks him out beyond recovery for an early KO at merely 50% (Ridley 3-2)*

Crono: Ridley picking up right where he left off last week.

*When Terry comes back, he keeps pelting Ridley with his specials. When Terry gets into the air with his up-B near the edge, Ridley jumps up and grabs him with his side-B and drags him off the side. Ridley is able to get back to the stage, but once again, Terry finds himself stranded beyond recovery for a KO, this time at only 25% (Ridley 3-1)*

Sephiroth: Its almost not even fair whats happening out there.

*Terry returns hitting Ridley with more of his hard-hitting specials. Ridley is able to slip in some attacks of his own, but Terry stays on the attack. Ridley knocks Terry off the stage, but while he looks to be beyond recovery, he narrowly gets back and hits Ridley with his special in the process. When he gets back to the stage, he nails Ridley with his side-air for the KO (Ridley 2-1)*

Crono: Well, at least someone was able to KO Ridley this week!

*Terry stays on the attack, while Ridley seems hesitant to go for the finishing blow despite his overwhelming advantage. A Smash Ball drops onto the stage, and Ridley gets it. He nails Terry with his Final Smash to end the match (Ridley wins, 2-0)*

Sephiroth: Ridley wins! Another thoroughly dominant performance. He looks to be the one to beat in this tournament.

Crono: Ridley won the match in just a little more than two minutes, due to his ability to KO Terry at low percentages twice. Terry was very effective offensively, but he just wasnt able to recover from those early mistakes.

Match 3: Bowser vs. Simon Belmont

Sephiroth: Simon slayed one monster last week, but can he slay the biggest one of all?

*Bowser comes out hitting hard, but Simon knocks Bowser off the side quickly and then uses his projectiles to start building percentage. Bowser has trouble dodging Simons projectiles because of their different properties. Simon throws Bowser off the side and nearly KOs him, but he gets back. Simon keeps pelting Bowser with his projectiles and follows it with an up-air for a near KO. Simon has a massive percentage advantage, but Bowsers sheer size enables him to stay in the fight. Eventually, Simon hits Bowser with his side-smash to KO him at 200% (Simon 3-2)*

Crono: Simon is giving it all hes got out there, and its taking every ounce of strength hes got.

*Bowser comes out swinging, but hes still struggling to handle Simons projectiles. A Smash Ball appears, and Bowser gets it. He immediately uses it to splatter Simon against the front of the screen for the KO (2-2)*

Sephiroth: Simon worked so hard to get that first KO, but Bowsers sheer power enables him to even things up just like that.

*Simon keeps Bowser at bay with his chain and projectiles, but when Bowser is able to get in, he hits hard. Simon effectively begins juggling Bowser by alternating with his projectiles, and then he hits him with his axe to launch him off the top of the screen for the KO (Simon 2-1)*

Crono: You dont normally see much juggling in these fights, so that was quite the sight!

*Bowser continues to struggle to close the distance with Simon to land a kill shot, and as both characters have high percentages, a Smash Ball appears. As they fight over it, Bowser takes advantage of Simons distracted attention to clobber him with his side-smash for a brutal KO (1-1)*

Sephiroth: Once again, Bowsers raw power is on full display.

*Bowser tries to crack open the Smash Ball while Simon is respawning, but with no success. As it goes up into the air, Simon quickly runs under Bowser and nails him with his up-smash to KO him and end the match (Simon wins, 1-0)*

Sephiroth: Simon wins! That was an impressive display of fighting skill and proficiency with his projectiles.

Crono: Simon dealt nearly twice as much damage as Bowser, and it still came down to the wire because of Bowsers endurance. If Bowser had been able to grab that last Smash Ball, things may have played out differently despite Simon clearly being the better fighter out there.

Match 2: Wario vs. Mii Swordfighter (Zero)

Sephiroth: Wario beat the real Mega Man last week, but can he handle the Zero clone this week?

*The two fight evenly at first, and then Swordfighter slowly starts gaining the advantage in percentage. The two fight off the side and Swordfighter launches Wario with his up-B. When Wario lands back on the stage, Swordfighter hits him with his up-smash for the KO (Swordfighter 3-2)*

Crono: Swordfighter looking good out there to start, which I always like to see.

*Wario starts taking the match seriously and pummels on Swordfighter to build up his percentage. Wario knocks him off the side and up into the air for good damage. Then he follows it up with his side-air to get the KO (2-2)*

Sephiroth: Looks like Wario isnt messing around anymore.

*Swordfighter has some success landing his specials, allowing him to control the flow of the match, as Wario occasionally lands some hits of his own. Swordfighter knocks Wario off the side and launches him as he tries to recover but cant get the KO. Then he goes for the KO with his up-smash again, but Wario manages to hang on. Swordfighter launches Wario off the side and tries hit him with his neutral-B projectile to finish the job, but Wario is able to avoid it and get back toward the stage. Swordfighter jumps off and hits Wario with his down-air to try to knock him beyond recovery. Wario tries to use his up-B to recover and hits Swordfighter with it, bouncing him off the underside of the stage for a KO. However, Wario wasnt able to get back, so he falls down for a KO a second later (1-1)*

Crono: They each take the other one out, and just like that, its dead even going into the last stock.

*A Smash Ball appears as both fighters return, and Swordfighter is the one able to come down with it. Wario tries to stay out of the way, but Swordfighter is eventually able to hit him with his Final Smash. However, since he uses it from the far side of the stage, he cant push Wario out to end the match. Wario hits Swordfighter with a fully charged fart and nearly KOs him, but hes able to recover. Wario hits Swordfighter with his dashing attack and launches him out, and then he follows it up with his side-air to end the match (Wario wins, 1-0)*

Sephiroth: Wario wins! Wow, weve already had two very intense fights to start off the week. That was anyones game up to the very end.

Crono: Swordfighter made a couple of critical mistakes. Probably the worst one was letting himself get caught by Warios up-B when he was clearly not going to make it back to the stage. The second was not optimizing the effectiveness of his Final Smash. Swordfighter had the percentage advantage, but his peak percentage was a mere 103%.

Heavyweight Tournament

Match 1: Banjo-Kazooie vs. R.O.B.

Sephiroth: This is the last match before the quarterfinals, and this will determine who faces Ganondorf next week. Can R.O.B. continue his unlikely run?

*R.O.B. comes out hitting hard and quickly racks up damage on Banjo while not taking a hit. Eventually, Banjo is able to get his offense going, but hes still lagging behind R.O.B. Then he lands a devastating side-B and nearly KOs R.O.B. out of nowhere. A Smash Ball appears, and R.O.B. grabs it. However, Banjo immediately nails him with his side-B again to KO him before he can use it (Banjo 3-2)*

Crono: Ouch, and just like that, R.O.B. went from being in total control to being behind.

*R.O.B. comes back and wastes no time evening things up, blasting Banjo with his side-smash for a quick KO (2-2)*

Sephiroth: R.O.B. isnt about to let Banjo take all the momentum away from him.

*Banjo takes control offensively, hitting R.O.B. with some hard-hitting attacks. They take the fight off the side and both look like theyre going to fall too far down, but they both get back up. R.O.B. hops up above Banjo off the side and nails him with a meteor strike for the KO (R.O.B. 2-1)*

Crono: And now R.O.B. is in the lead!

*Banjo goes after R.O.B. aggressively, trying to rack up damage and get the KO as quickly as possible, but R.O.B. proves to be resilient and dishes out some damage of his own. Eventually, Banjo grabs him and tosses him off the side for the KO (1-1)*

Sephiroth: Its coming down to the wire here. Its still anybodys game.

*R.O.B. presses his advantage and persistently chases after Banjo, who keeps having to backpedal and tries to deal damage from afar with his projectiles. A Smash Ball appears, and Banjo is able to get it. R.O.B. tries to go for the KO as payback, but Banjo is able to get back to the stage and catches R.O.B. with his Final Smash to end the match (Banjo wins, 1-0)*

Sephiroth: Banjo-Kazooie wins! That was a wild back and forth match until the end. You can tell they were both giving it all they had.

Crono: Banjo had the damage advantage, but that was probably largely due to the fact that he hit his Final Smash and R.O.B. never got to use his. The match may have turned when Banjo landed that KO to prevent R.O.B. from using his Final Smash after grabbing the first Smash Ball. Sometimes its just one moment that decides the match.

Match 5: Piranha Plant vs. Wolf O'Donnell vs. Princess Peach vs. Incineroar

Sephiroth: This is a real beauty and the beasts matchup here!

*Wolf takes heavy damage early from Piranha Plants projectiles and an explosive item. Piranha Plant hits Peach with his side-smash and launches her, but she holds on. Wolf grabs a Blue Shell, which homes in on Incineroar for good damage, but he holds on. Wolf sizes up Peach and crushes her with his side-smash for the KO. Wolf keeps getting knocked around by the different fighters and explosions, finally getting KOd at 210% by someone busting out an Assist Trophy with Jeff in it*

Crono: So many explosions!

*Piranha Plant crushes Incineroar with his up-smash to KO him. Not long after returning, he gets caught by the Klaptrap jumping out of the river and gets insta-KOd again. Peach gets her Final Smash and puts everyone to sleep but doesnt do anything afterwards. Piranha Plant gets his Final Smash and deals good damage to Incineroar and Peach but cant KO them. Incineroar gets his own Final Smash, and he tackles Piranha Plant with it for the KO*

Sephiroth: Incineroar staves off elimination and gets a KO in the process.

*A Smash Ball appears, and Wolf claims it. He hits Peach with his Final Smash to KO her. Incineroar gets caught in the rapids and accidentally ends up dive-bombing down too far into the water to self-destruct and eliminate himself from the match. Peach gets an Assist Trophy, and the Moon comes out. As it comes crashing down, Piranha Plant gets a Crash Bomber and blows up Wolf with it for the KO. Piranha Plant gets hit by the Moon for good damage but stays alive. Wolf gets an Assist Trophy, and Alucard appears. Peach gets her Final Smash and puts everyone to sleep, allowing Alucard to nail Piranha Plant and KO him*

Crono: Alucard is a good man who refuses to do nothing.

*Piranha Plant floats his projectile in the air, and Alucard knocks him away. However, the projectile bounces up and lands on Peach, sending her flying and eliminating her from the match. Wolf fights aggressively and builds up damage as a Smash Ball appears. Piranha Plant gets his Final Smash and catches Wolf with it, but because Petey Piranha falls off the stage, Wolf is able to get free without taking damage. Wolf grabs the Smash Ball and hits Piranha Plant with his Final Smash to win the match*

Sephiroth: Wolf wins! What a strange sequence of events at the end there, but Wolf capitalized on it to win.

Crono: Regardless of that weird ending, Wolf was clearly the best fighter out there, netting 6 KOs and getting all three KOs on Peach. Incineroar had an odd performance, not taking much damage but being KOd way earlier than everyone else because of his inability to handle the stage hazards.

1. Wolf ODonnell
2. Piranha Plant
3. Princess Peach
4. Incineroar

Match 4: Mii Gunner (Protoman) vs. Captain Falcon vs. Hero vs. Corrin

Sephiroth: Weve got a couple of guys who like to cover their face and two others who can completely change who they are. What a mysterious and confusing bunch of fighters!

*Hero falls into the rapids early on and nearly gets dragged off for a KO, but he manages to escape. Gunner grabs a Crash Bomber and catches Corrin with the explosion to KO him. Captain Falcon gets caught by a Klaptrap hopping out of the water and gets KOd. Two different Assist Trophies are unleashed on the stage, and Hero gets pulverized by Akira Yuki for a KO. Then Gunner also gets caught by a Klaptrap and gets KOd by it*

Crono: Theyre called stage hazards for a reason!

*Corrin gets his Final Smash and hits Hero with it for good damage. However, Gunner hits Corrin with a fully charged shot as hes recovering from the Final Smash to KO him as well. A real and fake Smash Ball both appear on the stage. Hero and Gunner also get their Final Smashes. Hero strikes first and gets Gunner with his Final Smash for the KO. Gunner accidentally breaks open the fake Smash Ball and takes a lot of damage. Hero gets the real one and gets Gunner again for another KO to eliminate him from the match*

Sephiroth: Tough break for the Gunner. Just felt like nothing was going right for him.

*Corrin sends Hero flying off the top of the screen for a KO. Captain Falcon gets his Final Smash and hits Hero with it for good damage. Then Captain Falcon gets a Crash Bomber and blows up Hero with it to eliminate him from the match. Falcon hits Corrin with his down-B to launch him, but it activates Corrins Final Smash. He chases Falcon down and hits him with it to KO him. A Smash Ball appears, and the two fight over it. Then Falcon nails Corrin with his up-smash to KO him and win the match*

Sephiroth: Captain Falcon wins! This was a match full of chaos with all of the items and stage hazards, and Captain Falcon seemed to do the best job of staying out of it and charging in to clean up the mess.

Crono: All four fighters get three KOs apiece (although one of Heros was an Assist Trophy), and they were all relatively even in damage dealt and received. This one seemed to come down to luck, and Falcon had the best luck of the group.

1. Captain Falcon
2. Corrin
3. Hero
4. Gunner (Protoman)

*All four characters struggle to get any offense going at the start. Squirtle grabs an Assist Trophy, and the Moon comes out as a Smash Ball appears. Dark Pit gets knocked into the rapids and cant get out in time before being dragged off for a KO. The Moon crashes into Pikachu and he gets launched off for a KO. The Smash Ball turns out to be a fake, and all four characters get caught in the explosion. Right afterwards, a real Smash Ball drops onto the stage, and Lucario comes out of the scrum with it. He uses it right away and nails both Charizard and Dark Pit with it for a double KO*

Crono: Wow, that was a wild sequence of events to start this match!

*Pikachu and Dark Pit try to chase Lucario off for a KO. Dark Pit nearly gets swept off by the rapids again but is able to escape this time. The fighters get caught by another explosive item as Dark Pit and Pikachu both get their Final Smashes. Pikachu tries to use his but cant hit anyone. Dark Pit uses his and catches Pikachu and Lucario for the double KO*

Sephiroth: Dark Pit is fighting for all hes worth out there trying to stay in contention.

*Pokemon Trainer gets his Final Smash and uses it to catch all three fighters to varying degrees, but Lucario gets caught in the center of the blast and gets pushed off the stage for a KO. Squirtle grabs an Assist Trophy and Bomberman comes out. The bombs catch both Dark Pit and Pikachu and eliminate them both from the match with a massive explosion*

Crono: Bomberman is absolutely devastating whenever he appears, and with that, were down to two.

*Lucario gets caught in another batch of explosions, but it activates his Final Smash. He uses it immediately and blasts Squirtle with it for the KO. A Smash Ball drops in the center of the stage, and Ivysaur grabs it. He nails Lucario with it to KO him again to win the match*

Sephiroth: Pokemon Trainer wins! The Pokemon take the top three spots as Dark Pit continues to struggle.

Crono: Pokemon Trainer was a beast in this match getting 6 total KOs, knocking out each fighter twice. Pikachu and Dark Pit both struggled offensively, but Pikachu netted a measly 117% damage and 0 KOs overall. Lucario fought well, but that last Smash Ball made the difference.

1. Pokemon Trainer
2. Lucario
3. Pikachu
4. Dark Pit

Match 2: Dark Samus vs. Yoshi vs. Mewtwo vs. Ridley

Sephiroth: Yoshi kind of stands out like a sore thumb among these other three characters as the colorful, happy-go-lucky guy.

*Dark Samus and Ridley take a lot of damage early fighting with each other. Yoshi grabs an Assist Trophy, which activates the Crane Game and takes Ridley off the top of the screen for a quick KO. The four characters continue racking up damage on each other with no major kill shots until Yoshi nails Mewtwo with his up-smash for a KO. Ridley hits Yoshi with his up-smash and Dark Samus nails Ridley from behind with a side-smash, but neither one gets KOd. Yoshi drops his down-B on Dark Samus as he falls back down, but it doesnt get the KO*

Crono: A lot of close calls early, but for the most part, everyone is hanging in there.

*A Smash Ball appears, and Dark Samus nearly KOs Yoshi and Ridley with its up-smash going for it, which activates Ridleys Final Smash. He uses it on Yoshi for an instant KO. Yoshi grabs the Smash Ball upon returning but cant hit anyone with his Final Smash. Dark Samus and Mewtwo both get their Final Smashes. Mewtwo clobbers Ridley with his side-smash to KO him in the meantime. Ridley grabs Dark Samus with his side-B and drops them both in the rapids. Ridley is barely able to escape to avoid eliminating himself from the match, but he does succeed in KOing Dark Samus*

Sephiroth: That was an extremely risky maneuver there by Ridley considering he was on his final stock, but it worked.

*Mewtwo catches Dark Samus with his Final Smash upon returning for good damage. Dark Samus hops around looking to use its Final Smash but doesnt pull the trigger. Mewtwo plants a rocket ship, which catches Dark Samus and carries it off the top of the screen for the KO. Ridley and Mewtwo gang up on Yoshi and send him flying off the screen for a KO. Ridley turns his focus on Mewtwo next and blasts him with an up-smash for another KO*

Crono: And now everyone is down to one stock. This should be a fun race to the finish!

*Ridley gets his Final Smash and catches both Yoshi and Mewtwo with it for good damage, but they survive. Yoshi gets his Final Smash and returns the favor, stampeding Ridley and eliminating him from the match. Dark Samus catches Yoshi with its up-smash to eliminate him from the match next. Mewtwo gets his Final Smash and catches Dark Samus with it to win the match*

Sephiroth: Mewtwo wins! He got that Final Smash at just the right time to get the victory.

Crono: Ridleys inability to get that double KO near the end shows how much one thing can change as he winds up finishing fourth despite having the most KOs, dealing the most damage, and being the only one to give out more damage than he received.

1. Mewtwo
2. Dark Samus
3. Yoshi
4. Ridley

Match 1: Link vs. Marth vs. Bowser Jr. vs. Palutena

Sephiroth: Were closing in on the end of round 1 as we renew a classic rivalry from the Brawl Fighting League!

*An Assist Trophy appears early, and all four characters battle over it, knocking it away when someone tries to pick it up. Eventually, Bowser Jr. comes down with it, and Marth is blasted by it multiple times for a KO. Bowser Jr. also gets a Poke Ball, and the Pokemon trolls Marth by warping him and dropping him off in bad spots. Someone gets a Nintendog Assist Trophy, so its hard to see whats happening for a bit, but no one gets KOd during that time*

Crono: Is it really all that effective to have a dog covering the screen in these matches, all things considered?

*Link drops a bomb as all four fight in close quarters and everyone gets blown away. Link catches both Bowser Jr. and Palutena with his up-smash and KOs them simultaneously. Bowser Jr. returns and quickly gets a KO on Marth, but he also gets caught in the rapid current in the process and just barely gets out in time to avoid self-destructing*

Sephiroth: That was a close call for Bowser Jr. there. Those rapids can result in fast KOs if youre not ready for them.

*Bowser Jr. gets his Final Smash and KOs Link with it. Marth gets his Final Smash and completely whiffs, nearly self-destructing in the process. A Smash Ball appears, and Palutena grabs it as Link gets his Final Smash and misses. She catches all three fighters with it but cant manage to KO any of them. Palutena completes a multi-part item and insta-KOs Marth with it to eliminate him from the match*

Crono: And down goes Marth. He was the victim of some pretty bad luck out there,

*Palutena holds her up-smash and waits for Bowser Jr. to drop into it for a brutal KO. Palutena gets knocked into the waters but is able to get out before being dragged off. Then she hops back on the stage and hits Link with her side-smash for the KO. Bowser Jr. grabs an Assist Trophy and it blasts Palutena for the KO. He also gets his Final Smash and uses it right away to hit Link for good damage, which also activates his Final Smash. However, the combination of his Final Smash and the Assist Trophy prove to be far too much damage for either character to handle and theyre double KOd to end the match*

Sephiroth: Bowser Jr. wins! Although it was kinda hard to see what was going on at the end there!

Crono: That was an impressive performance by Bowser Jr., who seemed to get all the right items and get his Final Smash at just the right times. He racked up over 600% damage, which is more than 200% more than the next closest. On the other hand, Marth was an embarrassment, only netting 81% damage and not KOing anyone at all.

1. Bowser Jr.
2t. Link
2t. Palutena
4. Marth

Since it was listed as a tie for 2nd, I'll count either placement if you have Link or Palutena 2nd or 3rd.

Ridley and K. Rool won as big favorites, but Villager and Isabelle won as big underdogs, so that mostly balanced things out. Nobody went perfect today but a couple people managed to go 4-1.

Match 5: Villager/Isabelle vs. Captain Falcon/Ganondorf

Sephiroth: Isabelle has been one of the biggest surprises in the league so far, but she might be facing her biggest challenge yet here.

*Falcon and Ganondorf struggle early on to adjust to Villager and Isabelles unorthodox fighting styles as their damage piles up. Eventually, Isabelle KOs Falcon with her side-air, but Ganondorf KOs Villager with a meteor strike a moment later. Isabelle grabs Ganondorf and throws him, nearly KOing him. As he tries to get back, both opponents follow after him and Villager bounces him off the underside of the stage for the KO*

Crono: Captain Falcon and Ganondorf just dont seem to know how to handle these guys.

*Captain Falcon and Ganondorf get their Final Smashes at the same time. Falcon catches Isabelle with his for the KO. Ganondorf nails Villager with his but cant quite KO him. Isabelle gets her Final Smash and traps Ganondorf with it, launching him after dealing good damage. Villager gets his Final Smash and catches Ganondorf with it as well, this time getting the KO*

Sephiroth: Well, we got all four Final Smashes out of the way in short order!

*Falcon catches Villager with his neutral-B and tries to follow it up with a meteor strike but whiffs. A Smash Ball appears, and Falcon KOs Villager as he breaks it open. As they try to dodge Falcon so he cant hit them, Ganondorf catches Isabelle from behind with his side-smash for the KO. Falcon eventually catches both of them with his Final Smash, launching them for good damage but not getting a KO. When she returns to the stage, Isabelle gets Falcon with her up-air to KO him at 175%*

Crono: Neither team can create any sort of distance from the other. This one might come down to the wire.

*Villager crushes Ganondorf with his side-smash for a KO as Isabelle gets her Final Smash and snatches Falcon with it, launching him off the stage for the KO. Ganondorf gets his Final Smash and hits Isabelle with it for a KO. Then Falcon hits Villager with his side-smash to complete the KO circle. Isabelle knocks Ganondorf away and tries to follow after him. Ganondorf catches her with his up-B, but the kickback after hitting it prevents him from getting back to the stage, so he gets KOd*

Sephiroth: Did Isabelle understand what she was doing there, or was it just dumb luck? Either way, the end result is the same.

*Isabelle blasts Captain Falcon with her side-smash as he tried to dodge Villagers projectile for a KO. Falcon hits Villager with his patented knee, but that only activates Villagers Final Smash. Hes able to snag Falcon with it for good damage. Captain Falcon gets his Final Smash as time winds down and hits Villager with it for a KO with under 10 seconds remaining*

Sephiroth: Villager and Isabelle win, +1 to -1! Seriously, can anyone stop Isabelle? Ganondorf and Captain Falcon were one of the most dominant teams in round 1, and even theyre powerless before her.

Crono: Isabelle is becoming a fearsome fighter, racking up the most KOs and being the only one to post a positive individual score. She also dealt 650% damage, which is 125% more than second place. Ganondorf was a bit of a flop out there, dealing the least damage by far and taking the most, as well as tying for the fewest KOs.

Match 4: Meta Knight/King Dedede vs. Roy/Chrom

Sephiroth: Fire Emblem is 0-2 in tag matches today. Can they finally turn their luck around?

*Dedede starts off chucking projectiles and catches Chrom with a stray Gordo, which knocks him off the stage, and he waits too long to try to recover, getting KOd at a mere 3%. All four fighters rack up damage and launch each other with strong attacks but no KOs. Chrom knocks Dedede away with his side-air for a KO as a Smash Ball appears. Chrom gets it and uses his Final Smash on Dedede for good damage but no KO. Dedede gets his Final Smash but cant hit anyone with it. Chrom punishes his miss and is once again able to hit Dedede well beyond recovery for a KO*

Crono: Yikes, not a strong start for Dedede as Chrom has recovered nicely from an embarrassing KO.

*Meta Knight hits Chrom with his side-air to launch him right as Roy hits him with his up-B. Meta Knight and Dedede tag team Chrom with their smash attacks to send him flying for a KO. They try to do the same to Roy, but he survives as his Smash Gauge fills up. He catches Dedede with his Final Smash as he tries to follow up on him, but it doesnt KO him. Roy tries to chase after him but ends up stranding himself out too far beyond recovery and drops for a KO. An instant later, Chrom launches Meta Knight for a KO*

Sephiroth: Roy and Chrom cant seem to stay out of their own way. Theyll get a good KO on the opponent but undermine it with a bad KO on themselves.

*Meta Knight gets his Final Smash but cant hit anyone with it. Roy and Chrom edge guard Dedede and repeatedly try to keep him from getting back but they cant stop him. Meta Knight rushes in and knocks them away with his dashing attack to get a double KO as they cant get back to the stage. They keep pounding away on Dedede and nearly get him a couple times, and then Chrom is finally able to KO him with his side-smash*

Crono: Roy and Chrom have been ganging up on Dedede all match, but they let their guard down and completely forgot about Meta Knight there.

*A Smash Ball appears, and Chrom gets it as Dedede gets his own Final Smash. Chrom tries to hit him with it but misses. Then Dedede goes for Roy with his Final Smash and also misses. Dedede knocks Chrom off the side and Meta Knight chases after him to finish him off. However, Chrom catches him with his up-B and takes him down for a kamikaze KO. Roy nails Dedede with his side-air to get a KO of his own*

Sephiroth: Once again, its two steps forward and one step back for the Fire Emblem guys.

*Meta Knight gets his Final Smash and looks for an opening to use it. He catches Roy with it for a KO and quickly nails Chrom with his side-air to knock him beyond recovery for a KO as well. Chrom and Roy gang up on Meta Knight as they try to get a quick KO as time winds down. Roy gets his Final Smash and hits Dedede with it, but he cant KO him. Chrom gets his Final Smash and also hits Dedede with it, but he still just barely hangs on*

Sephiroth: Meta Knight and Dedede win, +2 to -2! Roy and Chrom couldnt get those late KOs when they needed them to extend the match.

Crono: Roy was a mess out there, only getting one KO the entire match and posting the worst individual score. Chrom tried to carry the team, dealing the most damage of anyone, but he couldnt match the efficiency of Meta Knight, who got 5 KOs despite dealing the least damage and avoided taking damage himself, only getting KOd twice.

Match 3: Zero Suit Samus/Bayonetta vs. Ness/Lucas

Sephiroth: Zero Suit Samus, Bayonetta, and Lucas all suffered tough losses in their singles tournaments earlier in the week. Who will get back on track with a win here?

*Ness and Lucas start off dealing heavy damage on their opponents but cant land any KOs. Bayonetta and Zero Suit Samus slowly work their way back into the match as the first minute passes with no KOs. Eventually, Ness hits Bayonetta with his up-air to get the first KO. Lucas throws Zero Suit Samus off the side to try to get the second, but she holds on. Bayonetta knocks both of the boys into one of ZSSs attacks to launch them both, but it doesnt KO either one. Zero Suit Samus hits Ness with an up-smash to KO him*

Crono: Were seeing good defense from both sides so far as KOs are at a premium.

*Bayonetta gets her Final Smash and traps Ness with it to deal good damage but no KO. Then she hits Lucas with her dashing attack to get the KO on him. Lucas gets his Final Smash and uses it to hit both opponents but cant register a KO. However, Ness nails ZSS with his side-smash when she lands to get the KO. Ness gets his Final Smash and uses it right away to deal some damage but likewise cant get a KO from it*

Sephiroth: Once again, Ness and Lucas havent been able to wreak havoc with those Final Smashes the way they have in previous weeks.

*A Smash Ball appears, and Lucas grabs it. He uses his Final Smash immediately and blasts Bayonetta for the KO. Bayonetta returns and instantly hits Ness with her side-air to KO him. Zero Suit Samus gets her Final Smash and uses it right away on Lucas to KO him. Ness knocks ZSS away and tries to chase after her to get the KO, but she survives. However, in all of this, Bayonetta gets trapped trying to chase after Ness and self-destructs at a low percentage*

Crono: Ouch, that one could be costly when this is all said and done!

*Lucas keeps hitting away at Zero Suit Samus and eventually knocks her beyond recovery for a KO. Ness hits Bayonetta with his up-B trying to recovery and nearly bounces her off the underside of the stage for a KO, but she manages to get back. Bayonetta gets her Final Smash but cant catch either opponent with it. However, time slowing down screws up Ness trying to recover to the stage and he drops for a KO. Ness gets his Final Smash shortly after returning it and uses it to get a double KO on ZSS and Bayonetta with only 20 seconds left. ZSS and Bayonetta try hard to get a last second KO but cant quite get one as time expires*

Sephiroth: Ness and Lucas win, +2 to -2! They might struggle when theyre apart but theyre clearly better together.

Crono: That late double KO with the Final Smash proved to be the difference maker. We only had ten total KOs up to that point in the match, so this was a low-scoring match, relatively speaking. Lucas struggled out there a bit, netting only 250% total damage, but Ness was there to pick up the slack.

Match 2: Pokemon Trainer/Terry Bogard vs. Ike/Byleth

Sephiroth: Pokemon Trainer and Terry had an intense battle earlier in the week. Can they put it all behind them and concentrate on this match?

*Byleth takes the fight to Terry early on and nearly KOs him at a low percentage. However, when Ike tries to follow up, Terry jumps off of his head and gets back to the stage. Not long afterwards, Byleth blasts Terry with his side-smash to get the KO. Ike fights with Charizard off the side of the stage and uses his up-B as a meteor strike to KO him. Terry launches Byleth with his side-B and then hits him with another one to land the KO. Then he knocks Ike off the stage, who waits too long to use his up-B to recover and plummets for a KO*

Crono: Were seeing some power shots from both teams early on!

*Byleth catches Charizard with his down-B for a vicious KO. A few seconds later, Ike crushes Terry with his side-smash for another KO. Byleth gets his Final Smash and catches Terry with it for good damage. Pokemon Trainer gets his Final Smash and sets it up just right to catch Ike with it for the KO. Terry tries to nail Ike with his side-B, but he counters and launches him. This causes Terry to get his Final Smash, but he holds off on using it. Charizard chases Byleth off the side and follows up with a side-air to get the KO*

Sephiroth: These two teams look pretty evenly matched. This is intense!

*Ike also gets his Final Smash as he and Terry stare each other down. Terry tries to nail him with his down-B and almost self-destructs, so Ike decides to obliterate Charizard with his Final Smash for a KO. Byleth hits Terry with his up-smash and his up-B, and Ike jumps in to finish him off with his up-air for the KO. A Smash Ball appears, and Charizard initially gets it. Ike knocks it out of him, but Trainer switches to Squirtle and gets it back. He uses the Final Smash on both opponents, which KOs Ike, but Byleth hangs on with a full Smash Gauge. He tries to use it off the side but misses, but it helps him recover to the stage. However, Terry is waiting for him with his side-smash to finish him off and get the KO*

Crono: Wow, that was a smart move on Byleth, but Terry was right there to capitalize on it.

*The four fighters battle for a while racking up damage on each other. Terry launches Byleth with his side-B and Charizard follows it up with his side-air for the KO. Ike hits Charizard with his up-smash when he returns to bounce him off the front screen for a KO. Terry gets his Final Smash and uses it on Ike, but it doesnt KO him and activates his own Final Smash. When he returns to the stage, he nails Terry with his up-smash and then uses his Final Smash on Squirtle for a powerful KO. Byleth gets his Final Smash and hits Ivysaur with it but cant KO him. However, Pokemon Trainer gets his Final Smash and nails both Ike and Byleth with it for a double KO with less than 5 seconds remaining*

Sephiroth: Wow, what a clutch move because

*Its Super Sudden Death! Charizard hits Byleth and then Ike one after another to end the match in a matter of seconds*

Sephiroth: Pokemon Trainer and Terry win! It took them some time to build some rapport, but they got it together right when they needed it most.

Crono: Ike and Byleth were in control for most of the match. Ike registered 7 KOs, but Pokemon Trainer was right behind him with 6, including that double KO that forced sudden death. Byleth had a tough go of it, posting the worst overall score despite dealing the most damage by a decent margin.

Tag Team Tournament

Match 1: Marth/Lucina vs. Ridley/King K. Rool

Sephiroth: All of a sudden, Ridley is everywhere! He dominated his singles match, so lets see how he does in a tag match.

*Ridley starts off dealing good damage to both opponents, but eventually Marth counters one of his attacks and sends him flying as K. Rool launches Lucina, but they both recover. Marth tries to chase Ridley off the side, but Ridley knocks him away beyond recovery for a KO. In short succession, Marth knocks Ridley off the side again, and Ridley grabs him with his side-B for a kamikaze kill as K. Rool launches Lucina beyond recovery for a KO*

Crono: I think people will eventually learn to keep their distance from Ridley when hes off the side because hes not afraid to go down with the ship to take someone out.

*A Smash Ball appears, and Lucina grabs it. She uses her Final Smash to insta-KO Ridley. Marth gets his Final Smash and uses it to KO K. Rool for the first time in the match. Lucina and Ridley fight off the stage, and while Lucina knocks Ridley completely under the stage so he cant recover, shes also unable to recover, so she gets KOd as well*

Sephiroth: Lucina did perhaps too good of a job of trapping Ridley there as she didnt make a way to get back herself.

*K. Rool knocks Marth off the side and tries to catch him with his Final Smash, but he catches Lucina instead for the KO. However, Marth is too far out to get back, so he gets KOd as well. K. Rool had tried to chase him out there, but he botched his recovery and ended up under the stage and self-destructed. Ridley gets his Final Smash and misses. Lucina gets her Final Smash at the same time and nails him with it as hes vulnerable from missing for the KO. The four fight off the side for a while, and K. Rool knocks Marth beyond recovery for the KO*

Crono: Marth is really struggling to get back safely out there.

*Marth gets his Final Smash and hits K. Rool with it, but hes able to hang on as a Smash Ball appears. Marth gets that as well, and this time, he nails Ridley with it to KO him. Ridley returns and hits Lucina with his dashing attack to KO her, and then K. Rool hits Marth with a meteor strike for a KO as well. Lucina and Ridley get their Final Smashes at the same time, but Lucina strikes first and hits Ridley. However, it doesnt KO him, so Ridley uses his Final Smash when he gets back and misses again*

Sephiroth: Marth and Lucina are having better success at actually hitting their Final Smashes, but Ridley and K. Rool are proving to be too big to be knocked out easily.

*K. Rool knocks Marth beyond recovery for a KO. Then K. Rool gets his Final Smash, and both Marth and Lucina beat up on him to try to prevent him from using it. Ridley hits Lucina with his up-smash to KO her. K. Rool tries to hit Marth with his Final Smash but misses. Marth knocks Ridley off the side and tries to chase him for the follow up, but K. Rool blindsides Marth for the KO with 10 seconds left. Marth comes back and crushes K. Rool for a KO with a few seconds left*

Sephiroth: Ridley and K. Rool win, +3 to -4! Ridley is taking full advantage of his delayed appearance in these tournaments.

Crono: We had a ton of KOs in this match, with 19 total and everyone getting at least 4. K. Rool was the only one to get KOd less than 5 times. However, Marth took 7 KOs, including 1 self-destruct. Ridley dealt exactly the same amount of percentage as he received. The big difference was Ridley and K. Rools endurance, as their peak percentages were 187% and 213%, while Marths and Lucinas were only 126% and 131%.
