Also, I never would have expected a Vincent van Ghoul cameo! And it was cool how they did a callback to a criminal from the original show in this one.

Violet Evergarden Episode 6 complete!

I started watching it last night, but I fell asleep, so I started over tonight. This was a really good episode. I think Leon is the best one-off character so far (and not just for his name!). His interactions with Violet were really nice, seeing how she gave him courage to move forward with his life and how he helped her understand some of the emotions she struggled with and didn't know what they were.

Also, I had to re-download the MMX Collection, and thankfully, I still have my MMX6 save file. I've already beaten two Mavericks, and I already rescued Zero, so that's good!

Well, technically she wasn't there when Pearl powered it up and Phoenix never bothered to explain it to Maya during 2-3!

I also like how Phoenix refuses to violate the guys privacy by reading a letter he has without a reason, as if hes ever respected anyones privacy ever.

it's just the game's way of refusing to let you examine something that would be way too important on day 1

they did it during 2-3 too when Phoenix refused to take a slip of paper out of the Ringmaster's tailcoat that had the "TO THE MURDERER" note on it

but yeah Phoenix's arbitrary ethics can be weird that way

So I decided to get the Mega Man Legacy Collection on Switch. I might try to go back to the MMX Legacy Collection and finish playing MMX6 (not sure I'll bother with X7 and X8, at least not for now). The MMZ Collection is coming out next month, too. For some reason, I'm suddenly in a mood to get Mega Man games. I haven't played MM Classic in forever and I never played MM9 or 10, so this will give me a chance to do that. Then I might roll into MM11 afterwards depending on my mood.

I don't think I'll necessarily start on it right away (or I might split time between this and DQ11, depending on my mood, I suppose), but I just want to have them available for when I'm ready to play them. Plus, they were on sale for 10 bucks each on the eShop.

Oh, that's kind of weird. I always just assumed that Edgeworth's job was the same as Phoenix's, investigating and then arguing in court. If you're arguing with people outside of court, then how are they convicted afterwards?

It's basically assumed that Edgeworth owns them in court afterward. There's one case that explicitly shows Edgeworth right after a trial of someone he caught during the investigation.

Whew, Ori and the Blind Forest beated! That was a really good game. It's beautiful graphically, and the gameplay evolves in a really fun way as you progress, although by the end, you have so many powers and abilities, it can be difficult to hit the right button on the fly when you're in a tough spot. Thankfully, you can save instantaneously most of the time, so it doesn't hurt too much to die and have to redo things. The soundtrack is simple but haunting. It doesn't have traditional boss fights, per se, but you have escape segments after each dungeon, which can be really thrilling and tense.

also I'm watching the credits and friggin' Ted Woolsey is listed in here whoa

In the Edgeworth games where you're the prosecutor, do you still do the cross-examination?

Well, you don't actually play the court segments as Edgeworth. Everything takes place during investigations, but you have "Arguments" and "Rebuttals" between Edgeworth and the witnesses, which are functionally the same thing.

#1. Episode VI: Return of the Jedi

The Good: It's a good conclusion to the original trilogy that manages to wrap up all the lingering plotlines and questions from the first two movies. It has its share of poignant moments with Yoda's death and Vader's deathbed repentance, proving that Luke was right all along. The final act of the movie is as good as it gets in Star Wars. By the time it's finished, I'm feeling satisfied and content with how everything has played out. It does exactly what you want the last part of a trilogy to do, but it's able to do so without overextending itself or ruining the pacing.

The Bad: In some ways, Episode VI almost kinda feels like a precursor to what George Lucas would do with the prequels with too much cutesy silly stuff, like the Ewoks (and I like the Ewoks!). He also made a lot of missteps with the Special Edition updates, like the musical number in Jabba's Palace. Boba Fett perhaps get the most ignominious death in cinematic history. It kinda feels like Han really has nothing to do after they rescue him, so he strangely turns into a comic relief character (a good one, but nevertheless!). Perhaps the greatest troll job Lucas has perpetrated in the updated versions is adding a random "NOOOOOOOOOO" to Darth Vader's back and forth at the end before choosing to save Luke. It's just like, why? But perhaps the worst part was changing Anakin's Force Ghost into Hayden Christensen, whom Luke wouldn't recognize as his father, and it almost kind of justifies Obi-wan and Yoda's view that Anakin died when he became Darth Vader. It's just bad, and sometimes it's hard to tell if George Lucas is bad at what he does or great at what he does.

The Best: Luke, Vader, and the Emperor in the throne room is the high point of the entire series. I love everything about it, and it's the main reason Return of the Jedi is my favorite Star Wars movie. Luke struggling with the Dark Side within him (it wasn't something they invented in Last Jedi, people...!) as he tries to turn Vader back to the good side is phenomenal. That look on Luke's face when he chops off Vader's hand for some poetic justice and realizes that he's well on his way down the same path as his father is excellent. The Emperor just has a fantastic performance and so many of his lines are well delivered and memorable. It was a really interesting twist that Luke needed Vader to turn back to the good side in order to defeat the Emperor. He doesn't outright challenge him or beat him. He activates pacifist mode and appeals to Vader's paternal instincts, and it somehow worked! That took a heck of a lot of faith in a person who honestly didn't deserve it, and it's really cool that it all paid off.

Yeah, I agree with you almost entirely about Franziska, but I almost think that's kind of the point of her character. She openly declares herself to be this prodigy when she's really not (and as she admits in the ending, she's fully aware that she's not). Maya points out that they're the same age at one point in the game, and Franziska does act her age at times, even though she tries not to let anyone see it. She also has a massive inferiority complex from living in the shadow of her father and Edgeworth. It does make her much less satisfying to beat her, especially since she just whips Phoenix into unconsciousness every time she loses, but yeah, I get why they made her that way. Not a huge fan of hers overall though.

and aw yeah 2-4 the best

I think it worked out better that way because, like Phoenix, I wanted to believe Engarde was innocent despite all the evidence piling up against him that second day, clinging to that moment when he asked if he killed Juan and no Psyche-Locks appeared. It made the hair flip that much harder of a gut punch when it happened.

#2. Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

The Good: One of the most intriguing aspects of Episode V is that the bad guys win and the good guys fail at almost every turn. The Rebels might win small victories here and there, but the Empire ultimately wins the battle. The Empire destroys the base at Hoth. The Millennium Falcon seems to get away from the Empire, only to find that Boba Fett tracked them to Cloud City. Luke repeatedly fails during his training sessions with Yoda and then bails out to go help Han and Leia despite Yoda's and Obi-Wan's protests. They might finally manage to escape at the very end, but at the cost of Han being frozen and Luke getting whipped by Vader, physically and mentally. This is exactly the way you handle the middle part of a trilogy. You build up the bad guys and instill doubt about the ability of the good guys to actually win to make it more satisfying in the finale when they actually do win (The sequel trilogy partly managed this but they undermined Kylo Ren a bit at the end, which I guess is fitting because he's just a wannabe Vader). I can't imagine having to wait three years to see how the original trilogy ended back in the day!

The Bad: Honestly, it's difficult to find anything to criticize here because it's such a well done movie. Anything I say would feel like nitpicking. This isn't necessarily a criticism of the film itself but it does feel like George Lucas didn't plot out all the details ahead of time (or at least he changed a lot of them along the way). Luke and Leia's kiss suddenly feels really gross after Return of the Jedi reveals they're twins. They also had to do a lot of damage control in Return of the Jedi (similar to what Rise of Skywalker did for The Last Jedi, I guess...!) to explain why Obi-Wan told Luke that Vader killed his father. I also wasn't necessarily a fan of the Han/Leia romance, but eh, they made it work in the end, so whatever.

The Best: The Luke/Vader lightsaber duel is so good. It doesn't have the flash and flair of other duels in the series. It's just Vader largely toying with him, with Luke occasionally showing moments of potential in the fight, culminating in Vader deciding to stop fooling around and slicing his hand off. It's just a visceral, brutal fight. Then he follows it up with the most famous spoiler in movie history (Seriously, what other contenders are there?). You don't even get modded for posting this one without warning!
