Where I live running away from a cop isn't illegal. (Though I believe ignoring a stop/pullover sign from police is considered a traffic violation.)

Likewise: escaping from prison is not illegal here either. The idea behind it is that every human has the natural urge to be free, and punishment isn't going to stop that.

Of course any violence or vandalism used during the escape attempt can be punishable by law. And in reality a prison escape is difficult to pull off without breaking other laws.

car culture in the US is disgusting. Car driving as a sport is fucking insane. Only in the Uk can we take a deadly weapon, claim its a sport, then cry and complain when people try to make the world around us a safer place.
Maybe we should heavily regulate cars so you require a license in order to drive them. A license that you can only earn after passing a test proving your capability of handling a car. And then police could regularly monitor the drivers for breaking safety regulations and fine them or even revoke that license if needed.

FWIW the Romans would often paint women as pale as a ghost, which was the beauty standard of the time. So the Roman paintings we have of her could be idealized and not necessarily accurate. I don't think that should be taken as hard evidence.

That said, yeah, the Ptolemaic dynasty was known for not integrating much with the local Egyptians, and sticking to their own Macedonian-Greek culture and language. Plus they tended to mostly marry their siblings and cousins (...seriously, that family tree has a lot of circles). While we can't rule out one of her ancestors was a native Egyptian, most likely Cleopatra would look like the average Greek.

But even if it was first cousins, after years of happy marriage and three teenage kids? At that point I'd probably throw the dna results in the trash and pretend I had never seen them.

Localization. Children would know what rice balls are, but the average American child has no taste for rice balls. Thus they localized it to something that would be comparable culturally.
That'd make perfect sense if this was text-only, but paired with a visual of something that clearly isn't a donut makes it a really odd scene.

Even if we suppose a rice ball is too exotic to grasp, they could have translated it in a way without explicitly naming it. "Come have lunch. That always cheers me up" "-These snacks are great!"

Hornezz
03/24/23 9:10:29 AM

My biggest gripe was how much of a missed opportunity Gorr was. I loved the God Butcher storyline in the comics, Thor was haunted by Gorr during his entire life, actually feared him and it made him question the meaning of being a god. With an actor of Bale's caliber he could have been an iconic movie villain.

There's some similarities with Age of Ultron: both comic books had intimidating villains that were threatening enough to actually win and cause significant damage to the world (and ultimately needed time travel shenanigans from the heroes to defeat them), whereas the movies treated both of them as villains of the week, nothing a good ol' fight couldn't resolve.

That said, my friends who didn't read the comics enjoyed the movie a lot more than I did so it could just be my own expectations being let down.
