I agree with that. And I also feel like if you take a comedic approach to non comedic atmosphere and then try to fall back on "it's just jokes", you're the one being a douche and dumb. But when you go to a place literally called "Comedy Central" and act like it should be held by high politically correct standards, you're just being silly. Just coming to this board shows Im fine with things being politically correct in group settings where it's not just all fun and games chatting. But don't go to a place advertising comedy and treat it as having higher meaning than comedy. Same thing as going to a stand up show and acting like the comedian is taking a hard stance on issues.

Dave Chappelle walked away from Chappelles show because he said people were laughing at him and not with him.

Kramer tried to claim him calling people the N-word in his tirade was his attempt at "shock comedy".

Comedy is not above criticism and being offensive for the sake of being offensive doesn't give something a pass.

I dont care if its on comedy central or something on tik tok. Dark Comedy has to be nuanced and done with tact and if someone is saying stupid shit whether its 20 years ago or today its liable to be picked apart.

It's disheartening how people truly do not understand the influence of mainstream media and pop culture powerhouses, especially because the people pushing it on us absolutely do.

This is why his material about the trans jokes is so ridiculous. It's not just the jokes themselves, it's the fact that most of his observations are just doubling down on saying "I don't see what the big deal is, they're just jokes", when he basically experienced the same thing on his own show.

I mean, is he still in Africa, ashamed of his own comedy? Or did he come to a different conclusion there?

Im not someone who minds things being picked apart. I agree with everything you're saying. Im actually glad you deepened the conversation. Cause I couldn't get anything out of the other 2 arguing against me.

Im just arguing for it's right to exist. With open-minded people, stuff like Southpark episodes only act as something to get the conversation rolling. Which can be a positive thing. It's just people who refuse to understand others can also think for themselves and assume shows convince people to blindly follow their lead. Anyone who does was already headed in that direction and it's not the comedy shows doing the guiding or the indoctrinating. You can see it happen in real time in this topic with the other 2 arguing against me by creating imaginary statements to pretend It's how I think because they can't fathom not everyone against them fitting into one convenient box.

I just believe baby proofing comedy isn't the way to go. Criticism of it Im 100% for. I criticized the fuck out of Dave Chappelle's stand up.

That's the thing. You didn't actually argue anything. You just tried to attack my character and make up shit. Or it was the other guy doing that part. Iunno, you guys blended together. You never actually attempted to take the conversation anywhere. When I provide tons of material to pick at, you guys gave nothing to pick at in return. Homeboy actually picked at what I said and ventures into a deeper understanding of the argument being had. It's the difference between caring abput the topic and just trying to win an argument against someone.

No body is doing that.

If you wanted to today you could go up on stage and make racist jokes until your heart's content. You just can't hide behind "it's just comedy bro"

People have the right to be offended just like you have the right not to be. Comedy is not above having standards. Maybe todays generation is better equipped at saying "That joke isnt funny its just offensive"

I can't argue against anything being said. Cause I don't disagree and now the argument is just about not wanting to argue about the things I brought up lol. Im not trying to personally attack anyone but you guys are acting like I have to be personally attacking someone here to stretch the conversation after we already covered your talking points. The stones have been flipped on your end, Im just trying to provide more stones to look under. Im not trying to directly attack anyone in here.

IDK man, I remember when that episode about the f-word came out and people on CE would cite it as justification for why they thought using offensive terminology like that was ok.

What about all the casual racism they helped instill in the youth of the 90s to today? Im not saying Matt, Trey, and the crew are racist, but playing it up on the show through Cartman made it OK for people to imitate.

Thats of course, next to the non-casual racism exhibited by Cartman where he dressed up as hitler and spoke in German while trying a purge of his own. Or the ginger episode where he was super racist, then tried to create a different purge. If you know a redhead, theyve probably received some sort of bullying due to the impact of that episode.

Comedy is fine, but they need to be responsible about it.

Archie's views were never presented as the "correct" views. All in the Family episodes typically revolved around Archie saying something stupid, the entire family arguing about why he's an idiot (usually except for Edith), and then something happening at the end of the episode demonstrating why Archie was wrong.

Matt and Trey instead use their show to galvanize their libertarian views and present them in a way that tricks impressionable people into agreeing with them, no matter how harmful they may actually be. The characters representing their views are always shown as being level-headed, and the ones opposing said views are always ridiculous caricatures who only exist for the purpose of mockery.

Its not really that simple though. If it was, the slow would not have been as popular as it was. Archie was very bigoted and had very backwards views, but he was also kind at heart and a great farther. Mike on the other hand had all the right views but hes pretty annoying and unlikeable. I mean, hes the Meathead. And that dynamic makes the show actually good and interesting. Actually Mike is a lot like some CEmen when you think about it lol

This topic is about people who got their bad political views from a TV show or use a TV show to support their bad political views. Im sure there were people who viewed Archie Bunker in that way.

A significant portion of South Park's audience are young, impressionable people who are likely getting their initial exposure to certain ideas from the show. I know that was definitely the case with a lot of the people I grew up with.

There's a lot of thoughtless soundbites of climate change denial that are just the most "street smarts" level of smart and I never get why that impresses or influences people so much. Considering there side has no data, just questions. It sounds like this "duhhh well, if we were supposed to be in the danger zone 20 years ago according to climate science, den why isn't duhhh Gulf of Mexico flooded yet? CHECK MAYTE" or the really headache inducing " WHY WUD TEH SEA LEVELS RISE IF DUH ANTARCTIC MELTS, YUR DRINK DON'T OVERFLOW IF THE ICE MELTS!!!!1"
