I haven't participated a whole lot in these contests, but I went and created a playlist with every single one of the retirees. Maybe only 40 of them I'm already familiar with, so I'm excited to be exposed to a crapload of video game music! I only listened to like 10 seconds of each one, but a lot of them sounded really good....

I found a Youtube vid for Staff Roll... it has 500 likes and only 1 dislike. Not a bad proportion!

If you like Staff Roll, you might like the piano arrangement by BogusRed.

My second choice goes to Lost Ancient Ruins. It's one of my favorite dungeon themes in any Zelda game. My musical tastes for that game are very unusual, it seems... Of course, I like Staff Roll and Dark World a lot, as well.

but yeah I'm still not sure how the murder actually worked

It's been a while, but Reus had planned the fake murder and stuff with the other magicians, but secretly set up for the fake Reus to be killed where nobody can see. He caused some backgrounds and props to fall and cover up the scene. The fake Reus is already attached to the wire of the winch (not sure how). Mr. Reus then uses a remote control to release the winding of the winch, thrusting Mr. Reus in the air right into a blade, pointed downward, that was planted in advance.

Something like that. I probably missed something critical. The murder method was my favorite thing in 6-2.

I played trumpet for a couple years in elementary school. Then we moved to an apartment and I stopped.

Tragic. I'm lucky my apartment neighbors tolerate my playing, though I don't play my trumpet too late of course.

I also learned piano, at least enough to play a moderately difficult piece with some practice. Again, you need neighbors that tolerate it... too bad I don't have a usable piano anymore, and there's no room for the electronic keyboard I had....

For 1987 vs. 1990, I would take 1990...maybe. I feel that Final Fantasy's presence was demolished by the presence of FFIX in the year 2000, causing the year to be considerably underrated. Of course, the question is... does the combination of a beloved Mario game with Final Fantasy enough to take on the start of four respected series, including two Nintendo heavy-hitters?

I mean Chrono Trigger doubled Mario World once upon a time, even if LttP could double SMW it wouldn't mean anything since it'd just be SFF

I don't recall any such match. CT doubled Mario RPG in 2004 and got 59% on SMW the next round. I figure SMW has closed the gap since then given its impressive performance on FFVIII in the last game contest before the Undertale rally occurred... I mean, LttP only got 3% higher against FFIV!

Oh, and silly me for thinking MGS3 could handle Skyrim... well, maybe it COULD, but not based on the last games contest. But I can't think of even a game that matches with Skyrim. I can't think of a good match for Skyrim aside from Metroid Prime. Kingdom Hearts? Mega Man X ? Fallout 3?

I mentioned SMW vs. LttP because Mario 64 was nearly even with LttP once upon a time. And some people think SMW is stronger than Mario 64, so I was wondering even anyone would give it a shot of overtaking the 16-bit Zelda. Granted, if SMW boosted, LttP probably did as well, so LttP probably wins with 53+% and that's before SFF. If LttP could get 65% on SMW, that would make me very happy! ...but it of course wouldn't be that bad.

Meta-Knight got 38% on Bowser, I believe... no, wait, he got 35% on Luigi. And then did significantly worse against Bowser in 3-ways! Talk about terrible memory! In that case, there's very little chance DK loses to Meta-Knight! Okay, DK vs. Captain Falcon would be a great match, then.

More matches to debate
Final Fantasy vs. Final Fantasy XI
DK vs. Captain Falcon
Castlevania vs. Mega Man
Skyrim vs. Metal Gear Solid 3
1987 vs. 1990

I'll try to rank them.

Half-Life 2
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Red Dead Redemption
Fallout: New Vegas
Earthbound
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

Yeah, pretty much the same order you listed them in the first place, but I figure Skyward Sword can rely on its series power to beat all but maybe HL2.

Predict the following matches:

Vivi vs. Squall
Luigi vs. Yoshi
Final Fantasy VI vs. Majora's Mask
Donkey Kong vs. Meta-Knight
Cloud vs. Crono
Zelda: Link to the Past vs. Super Mario World
Dick Gumshoe vs. Maya Fey
Dahlia Hawthorne vs. Matt Engarde
Dhurke Sahdmadhi vs. Simon Blackquill
Mr. Did It vs. Banana-Scented Bandana Man

i can dream cant i?

Unluckiest:

In RBY, I was trying repeatedly to catch an Articuno with good stats, with maybe 30-40 attempts .... but get this: on one of the catches, Articuno had absolute MINIMUM stats. That's right. It was 0/15 on Every. Single. Stat.

Probability-wise, the odds of that happening... I'll let YOU calculate it. There are 5 stats and you have a 1/15 chance of getting the lowest (or the highest) stat possible. Or, you could say it's about as likely as getting a royal flush by drawing five cards out of a deck. Another way to put it is that you would catch an average of 95 shinies in the later generations before you catch a level 50+ Pokemon in RBY with absolute minimum stats.

Why couldn't it have been a max stat Articuno? The chances of getting that is exactly the same. ~_~

Luckiest:
I once participated in a 64-man tournament in RBY about 16 years ago. I happened to be in the finals. The other guy, Lomboy, was better than me, honestly. But even he can't win a haxxored match!

First off, it was Golem against Nidoking with Focus Energy, meaning Nidoking gets an almost guaranteed critical hit. If my Golem gets KO'd, Nidoking cleans up the rest of my team. But Nidoking used Blizzard...and it missed! And my Golem KO'd Nidoking with Earthquake! Keep in mind a critical hit Earthquake wouldn't have KO'd me, which is why Lomboy chose Blizzard.

Later on, it has come down to my Exeggutor against Lomboy's Alakazam, our last Pokemon. My Exeggutor is at like 10% health. The Alakazam is about 40% and paralyzed. I don't have Double-Edge. I'm screwed, right? Nope! I get a critical hit Psychic against Alakazam...and Alakazam gets fully paralyzed. Then Exeggutor gets ANOTHER critical Psychic against Alakazam, and Alakazam falls... and I win the winner's bracket in the tournament! So cruel.

I really like all six of those games.

However, FF6 holds a special place in my heart. Secret of Mana as well with it's fantastic multiplayer. SMRPG likewise holds a special place. I really, really love Lufia 2, though...and FFIV is definitely a classic...and CT is of course excellent...

One HUGE factor, though, is the fact that Lufia 2 was never released on Virtual Console. The other issue is that you can only play 2-player Secret of Mana, not 3-player, on the SNES Classic.

I like the three games already included more, but I don't own Lufia 2, and it was never released on the virtual console... therefore, I would side with FF4/CT/Lufia 2.

That doesn't really answer my question. Even if Tidus 2002 = Tidus 2003, Magus' four-pack was still highly overrated. Magus would be at 31.00% compared to Squall's pre-adjusted 31.72%, enough for Squall to beat Magus with 51% in the year 2003. If you adjust Squall up, the margin of victory is even greater.

Obviously Squall was capable of a larger margin than that in 2005, but part of the question was whether Tidus and Magus were stronger in 2003 than in 2005.

I'm guessing you meant to say that Tidus 2003 = Tidus 2004, though.

But now I realize that Tidus AND Magus falling by a similar amount is fishy... yeah, I'm even more convinced that Tidus 2003 = Tidus 2004. Pretty confidently now.

Link 2003 > Link 2002

We're the only two people on the planet that still care about x-stats that long ago... (just slightly) =P

Something that I've been stumped over for a long time: How strong was Tidus in 2003?

Tidus 2002 (adjusted): 30.4%
Tidus 2004 (adjusted): 27.19%

True, 2003 Tidus could have been somewhere inbetween those numbers, but you could make a case for his being equal to both 2002 and 2004.

A reason to believe Tidus 2003 = Tidus 2004 is Magus' opponent, Sam Fisher. Sam proved to be far weaker than originally anticipated the next two years. If Sam Fisher was the same strength in 2003 and 2005, note that Magus did slightly better than Donkey Kong against Sam Fisher. Using the adjusted 2005 Donkey Kong, 2003 Magus is at 28.50%, just slightly above 2004 Tidus. It's crazy how well that fits.

Another reason to consider the above is Magus. If Tidus 2003 = Tidus 2002, Magus tumbles in strength between 2003 and 2005, while Crono moves in the opposite direction. This is assuming Knuckles overperformed against Squall in 2005.

Or.... maybe Magus really did stay constant and Knuckles was actually as strong as his x-stat in 2005 (he was at 32% instead of the usual 27%)? If so, TIdus 2002 = Tidus 2003 would almost certainly be the case. But I don't think that's right, because that would mean a HUGE fall for Magus by 2007... as if the fall wasn't big enough already.

A reason to believe Tidus 2003 = Tidus 2002 is Ganondorf. If this wasn't true, Ganondorf goes from 28% to 32% to 35% (adjusted) in just two years. That's a big increase! Zelda went from 30.29% to 33.71% in that same period. Kinda weird how Ganondorf overtakes Zelda...

Who knows where the fluke matches were (aside from the obvious Link/Magus). For all we know, Tidus overperformed against Sonic in 2002, meaning Tidus might have been at the same level all along.

I'm siding towards Tidus 2003 = Tidus 2004 at this point. Thoughts, Leon? (probably nobody else will bother)

3.39% of GameFAQs poll voters had an NES Classic the day it was released.

13.49% of voters had an SNES Classic the day it was released.

That's a 300% improvement. I expected numbers to be higher, but not THAT much higher....

Oh, yeah, and 5.9% of those who had an SNES Classic planned to scalp it, as opposed to 14.5% of NES Classic owners. I didn't expect a drop that big... maybe the purchasing limits online really did cause the number of scalpers to drop. Perhaps scalpers didn't want to go through the trouble to pre-order one SNES Classic at each store, as opposed to when they could purchase like ten of them per store with the NES Classic?

Edit: Actually, it makes sense that the scalping % is lower, because a much larger percentage of sales September 29th and earlier were at brick-and-mortar stores.
