there are a few file extensions for SNES Roms that are accepted by most emulators as you likely know, seen in this list. Whether all or some of these will be accepted on SNES mini is anyone's guess. You'll have to give the experts a week at least before we know how to hack the SNES. if you remember, it took a few months before we had that simple hacking program for the NES classic.

fair enough thanks. I just waned to have a list ready to go. But I guess I should wait to make sure I download the right files.

Then again, Nintendo has been known to use ROM dumps for the Virtual Console.

The very existence of these consoles is mindboggling to me regardless. If you asked me are they gonna make easily hackable mini-consoles? i would say no way. I still don't get how Nintendo profits out of these. i mean surely they profit, but aren't they dooming the VC?

from nintendo's perspective, they would only be losing future SNES VC sales. Even assuming a modest $40 profit for nintendo on each classic sold, we can assume this is more money than the vast majority of people would put into the VC for SNES titles.

Even if someone were to hack the entire SNES library into their classic console, nintendo would have made more money off that than what they likely would have put into the VC for snes games anyway. Same for the NES classic.

That's not even taking into account all the people who want the SNES classic who would almost never buy titles off the VC much less own a console that would allow them to do so. Even as gamers, we all probably know quite a few people who bought the NES classic who haven't had a modern console in years or who were very casual gamers.

Further, there are those who will double dip and buy a few titles again simply because the switch is portable. Lets not pretend many of us haven't bought super mario world more than once in the past.

No, ultimately nintendo would see a vast profit in selling these classic consoles despite the minor loss in VC sales they'll see as a result. They gain far more than they lose.

No. Switch is portable, SNES Classic Mini isn't unless you solder a screen onto it.

The Wal-Mart near me is selling 45 units at midnight. I'll stop by before bed tonight. If the line looks manageable, I'll endure it.

Maybe I'll do that. I'm in pain after my bad night of sleep last night, so the all-nighter I had planned isn't going to happen.

I don't think my closest Wal-Mart is doing anything in particular and it isn't 24 hours, so I'm just going to go first thing in the morning (As close to 6 AM, the posted opening time, as I can wake up for) and hope for the best

Oh god, I just noticed this on the GameFAQs homepage:

Under "Today's Featured Content", there's links to the main pages for every single SNES Classic game. Placing that on the homepage is a bad idea in general since the homepage itself receives far less traffic than it used to (case in point: our declining vote totals). It would have been better suited for the main SNES page (https://www.gamefaqs.com/snes) instead.

also Nintendo wants you to mod it. They left a note in there this time for hackers to find that says

I don't think Nintendo really put in any serious effort to keep the SNES Classic hack-proof since it doesn't have the ability to receive patches through the internet. Providing a feature like that would be pointless since no one interested in hacking their SNES Classic would actually connect their system to the internet.

Anyway, got one. Was Number 28 out of 38 (systems) at local walmart. Arrived 2.5 hours before midnight, thereabouts.

that resets the game you're playing, but I meant returning to the main menu. The NES Classic mods added Down + Select for that so you could quickly pick a different game or make a save state, etc

I showed up at my local non-24h Wal-Mart about 5 minutes before it opened

There were about 12 guys in line in front of me. Three more showed up after me.

We all got our SNES Classics =D

(I'm not going to play it this morning because I have to be to work in ~an hour and have other things to do first, and I might not play it after work because finishing Danganronpa before I can get spoiled takes priority. But BAH GAWD I HAVE ONE)
