TopicFavorite Christmas Song?
Gaawa_chan

That is... actually a pretty hard question to answer. For oldschool music, my favorite album is this:
https://bostoncamerata.org/oldSite/cd/titles/renxmas.htm
Tau gar, la durundena is one I really like just because it's got an unusual feel to it (actually, a lot of the songs on this album do, but I really like the rhythm of the speech in this one. That said, every single song on this album is excellent. I think there are samples of the songs on Amazon if you want to take a listen).
Seriously if you like choral music, this is a GREAT album to pick up. I listen to it year-round.

Another one that has better-known songs is this album:
https://www.allmusic.com/album/o-come-all-ye-faithful-christmas-carols-at-kings-college-cambridge-mw0000164061

For your 20th-21st century Christmas songs, Walking in the Air is the obvious winner here. I've listened to several versions of it, but the original one is probably still my favorite:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=upH1QZU4Z0Y

I actually like O Holy Night but I am EXTREMELY picky about what version I'm listening to. Most of them overdo the instrumentals in an already pretty melodramatic song at the expense of the singers to the point where they outright drown out the singing in parts (YUCK AWFUL) or don't put the emphasis in the places that I prefer or overcomplicate the performance unnecessarily. Probably my favorite versions off the top of my head are:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjFPM-9u80E
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMrlVZmG97I
The first one is nice because the organ isn't overpowering/distracting from the vocals.
The second one has better singing, but the instruments detract a bit for me.
The King's Singers did O Holy Night and the vocals were great but the freaking stupid-ass instrumentals ruined it.

Carol of the Bells is a difficult song to screw up in comparison, tbh, lol.

I haven't found any exact wording on the reasoning, but according to this article:
https://www.nbcnews.com/feature/nbc-out/iowa-man-sentenced-15-years-after-burning-church-s-lgbtq-n1105131
At the time of his November conviction, KCCI reported that the "habitual offender" charge filed against Martinez called for a lengthier penalty.
So that on top of the hate crime status lengthened the sentence.
From the same article:
Courtney Reyes, executive director of One Iowa, a statewide LGBTQ advocacy group, said while her organization appreciates the seriousness with which this biased incident was addressed, "we will continue to strive for a justice system which values restoration over punishment and helps individuals like Adolfo Martinez understand the harm that theyve caused."
"Hate crimes against the LGBTQ community are a serious matter as they inflict distinct emotional harms on their victims, and strike fear into the communities they target," Reyes told NBC News. "That said, true justice should always strive to be about rehabilitation, reconciliation, and healing communities. It is difficult to see how a 16-year prison sentence accomplishes any of those goals."

Edit: Got a bit more:
"I believe him to be very dangerous," Story County Attorney Jessica Reynolds said. "That's why my office recommended the maximum sentence."
Reynolds said the judge agreed to the 17-year sentence because Martinez has a long history of harassment and is a habitual offender and never showed any remorse.
"The defendant stated that there was nothing the judge could to stop him from continuing this behavior and that he would continue to do this no matter what," she said.
Lack of remorse is often a justification for aiming for a higher sentence as well. His attitude probably did not endear him to the judge or jury. Edit: Forgot the link for this one, sorry:

You know, it's very interesting. I live in rural USA and members of my family work at an assisted living facility that I also used to work at, so we interact a lot with elderly folks. You'd expect that, living in a conservative state and working with a bunch of retired loggers and such that the vast majority would be Trumpers, but it's been the opposite. They seem to despise Trump and support impeachment almost across the board. Sanders was also extraordinarily popular in my county in the 2016 primary.

I think it was his best performance, but no. Sanders and (oddly) Yang did better, and I think Warren's performance was about on par with Biden's.

Buttigieg got pretty thrashed from multiple angles, which was funny. Klobuchar and Steyer were garbage, as expected.

... Man, people need to get out more, learn a bit more about what's happening in the regions around them outside of their immediate social spheres. I guess I could fault people for it a bit less if they aren't living in the USA, since it's most obvious here thanks to the Klan.

You need to contact the locations you make appointments at (dentist, doctor, etc) and tell them explicitly that if anyone other than you attempts to make appointment changes, they are not to be changed. You are an adult and you have the right to not have people fuck with your affairs, especially when it comes to medical stuff, even if they are related to you.

Even if you have given some sort of disclosure agreement that gives your mother access to certain things, she still should not be able to interfere with your appointments like that. It's very strange.

And this is coming from someone who does not particularly like Gabbard.

Edit: Let's be clear, the reason why this vote of hers is stupid is this:
I think the guy is guilty but wont say it because I didnt like the way the prosecutor and the defence argued all the time.
The argument is absurd. It's clear that the only reason that she did this is because she's in desperate need of press coverage at this point.

I'm surprised he wasn't also charged and convicted for theft.

I think the time is excessive for the charges he was convicted on. I suspect he was hoping to get other people to copy what he did, so a harsh sentence may be because the judge wanted to make an example out of him as a deterrent to others. Don't know much about the case though so that's just speculation.

On a side note, if Cory Booker thinks that his attempt to whine about debate requirements being racist is going to pan out in his favor, he's sorely mistaken. Policy is king this time around, as it should be.

I can agree with that. Still has garbage script, humor, and pacing, though. Also suffers from something that almost every film in the series has, which is a fixation on Rule of Cool.

Bolded part is outright false. The prequels are the most political films of all of them by far. You just take issue with the politics in the new movies and don't take issue with the politics in the other films. It's a bit funny, tbh, how many people forget that like half of the story of the prequels was hyper-focused on politics just because the messages in there don't raise their hackles.
