I'll take the bait.

When a two-year old developed brain damage from lead poisoning, was it:
  1. their fault for exposing their own body to lead, (according to your first post, it is.)
  2. their parents' fault for not being able to get housing without lead or not recognizing the lead in the water/paint, (because apparently people "choose" to expose themselves to poison out of "laziness" or "lack of accountability.")
  3. or the system that red-lined the family into a district that hasn't updated its infrastructure since the 1800s and then kept them in impoverished so they could never accumulate the wealth to renovate or leave?
.
Truth is that it's a gross oversimplification and a worthless platitude. People just want individualistic answers to complex social problems so they can feel morally justified in not giving a fuck about the struggles of others. After all, why should they waste their beautiful minds on something like that?

You could make peppermint bark, which is very easy and seasonal. You just need a bunch of peppermints, crush them/food processor them, and some bark for melting. Spread it out, harden it, break it up, and stuff it into baggies.

For one fact... bats are highly social animals that form cliques within colonies and even have "best friends." Vampire bats, which comprise about 3/1000 species of bats, must find food every night. If one bat fails to find food, others will regurgitate food to save their companion.

I'll do you better.

Reparations are more about justice for families wronged by the government, in which case only the history of the victims, not the perpetrators, would be required. People take reparations too personally. Think of it as a large scale version of a civil court case, perhaps comparable to a wrongful death suit. In this case, the plaintiff would be African Americans, and the defendant would be the US government, paying for damages.

Reparations really shouldn't be a controversial topic- I suspect that most people are freaked out by it because they assume that they will be taxed to pay for it, which is... not how economics works on the federal level anymore, unless austerity is implemented. Speaking of implementation, there's the real hang-up. Programs like this tend to be vulnerable to predatory agencies that will target the people being compensated and try to trick them into signing away their money. It's very common, (happens a lot to black people who received money due to red-lining and gentrification leading to them being exposed to lead) so if reparations are implemented, something needs to be done to prevent predators from snatching the compensation.

China has not been a communist state for decades (never gave up its authoritarianism, though)... but most people know even less about economics and economic shifts than they do about general politics. On the one hand? You don't get to piss and moan about "personal interests" when that is literally all Capitalism runs off of.

On the other? Um, no. That affects authoritarian systems more, of which the Soviet Union is merely a (no longer existing) Stalinist example. China is authoritarian (Oligarchic and capitalist). Russia is authoritarian (Oligarchic and capitalist). Brazil is now authoritarian (beholden mainly to foreign oligarchs, Christian fascist). The USA has been backsliding into authoritarianism (Oligarchic and capitalist) for years now to the point where we have a billionaire oligarch as president.

So unless you're going to tell me that you're for an anarchic distribution of power in which everyone holds control over local means of production thereby dis-incentivizing them from polluting, I'm not really interested in hearing about someone trying to Red Scare in a world where communism basically doesn't exist in any notable country on the planet at this point in time.

Gaawa_chan

It's a little more complicated than that. There are some other factors to look at.

  1. There is a legitimate argument to be made that Congress is obligated to go through the process given the allegations. You don't have to like it to acknowledge that, but it's basically the only half-decent justification to be found.
  2. For those who support Trump, this is actually a good thing because it's made him more money for his re-election and it is obvious that the impeachment proceedings will fail.
  3. As far as the Democrats go, this is a good thing for only one person: Joe Biden, the incompetent establishment darling. His two main competitors, Sanders and Warren, will have to waste time on this stupid impeachment process instead of staying on the campaign trail during a key cycle in the primary.

With that third point in mind, it becomes obvious why it is Nancy Pelosi twiddled her thumbs for so long on the matter of impeachment only to abruptly change her mind. This can only benefit center-right corporatists like Pelosi and Biden, who are far more comfortable with Biden or Trump than they are with Warren or Sanders.

The impeachment proceedings also allowed Congress to sneak the re-authorization of the Patriot Act through, as well as the further shredding of internet rights. I expect there will be more unpopular policies pushed through during the impeachment proceedings, particularly the horrific S.2765 - Bipartisan Congressional Budget Reform Act, which has (as the name indicates) bipartisan support from Republicans and corporate Democrats and functions as a way of forcing extreme austerity practices on the general public (presumably how they will pay for any future tax cuts for themselves).

LOL at people who think capitalism wrecked the environment, when communist regimes are historically the biggest polluters. The SJWs are awfully silent in this thread.
Might have something to do with them not being tankies, and the fact that the entire framing of the argument is dishonest. Runaway pollution is due to a combination of tech booms like the industrial revolution coupled with the failures of research into the consequences of not curtailing pollution keeping up with said booms, and governments of pretty much any kind being unwilling to regulate production and waste for fear of cutting into profit or progress speed.

It just so happens that if you have system which is susceptible to corporate interests, a given government is dis-incentivized to regulate, and there's no system that isn't susceptible to this, though fascism has by far the worst potential for it due to the incredibly close relations and interests between the private and public sector under that system. So currently we have the USA being a major polluter due to a dismantling of regulations on pretty much every front over the course of many decades, and China which has adopted a state capitalist system in an effort to boost-jump its economy to the front of the international economic race- and they will NOT compromise their effort to come out on top by cracking down on their ecological damage, not when the USA won't do the same.

Ffs, right now one of the most imminent threats to global environmental health is in Brazil, and it's not coming from Silva's ilk; it's from Bolsonaro's. He wants to clear vast swathes of rainforest for big ranching and mining operations, and assault the indigenous population while he's at it. Brazil is a massive country that is gearing up to do almost unfathomable amounts of ecological damage as we speak. Or how about Canada? Canada is a petrol state and its dealings with the USA to build pipelines has resulted in obscene amounts of pollution, but they aren't authoritarian leftists; they're capitalists.

*Shrug* TL:DR, it's not so much about the political systems in and of themselves, but geopolitical relationships as well as technological advances and corporate interests utilizing geopolitics to avoid being regulated. It's also not just a matter of scale but also what exactly is being damaged. Deforestation coupled with air polution and ocean acidification is a three-way primary threat and it's coming from multiple countries with vastly different political systems.

My father's father was conscripted into the fascist Italian army during WW2 and ended up in a Soviet camp. Not sure what camp it was; the only thing I know about it is that it didn't have a fence because there was nowhere to run to. Interestingly, while my grandmother was abusive to my father and his brothers, my grandfather was apparently a very meek and gentle man, albeit obviously traumatized. Several of his siblings starved to death when he was young... he'd been raised by monks at some sort of Catholic monastary, and I think he spoke... 16? languages. But he didn't talk much about his past and I don't know much because he died before I was born.

I am also descended from Sarah G. Bull (early US settler), so I am distantly related to a ton of other people in the USA. Wouldn't be at all surprised if a bunch of them were involved in fascism... it's almost certain, tbh.

Edit: Damn, I wasn't emotionally prepared to look up one grandfather only to find the obituary of the other one. Man... ;_;

The Lion King/Aladdin/B&tB are all great movies.

I really liked Oliver & Company and The Little Mermaid when I was little.

A lot of the pre-101 Dalmations films are absolutely beautiful... but also pretty boring, tbh. Tarzan and Hercules are actually pretty fun to watch but their narratives are pretty meh as well compared to other films from the same era.

Hunchback is a film that could have been great if they hadn't compromised it with some really out of place stuff. Shame.
