LMAO

Like, I get not getting paid for Christmas Eve. I understand shitty companies such as mine not recognizing it as a holiday.

But if we want to get paid for the actual holiday, we have to have at least 8 hours of time to use on the 24th. Even though we're closed.

In what world does this make any sense?

I dont understand. In BC you have to work 15/30 days before the stat to get paid for it. Weekends are included in the thirty days so if you work Mon-Friday you automatically lose about eight days towards that number.

Its a stat anywhere Ive ever worked in my life. The last place I worked had the 24th, 25th, 26th and the 1st all paid for.

Yeah. I think most people actually get them if they work like career type jobs. But probably not thing like retail, fast food, or whatever.

I'm full time so I get paid 7 hours on the 25 but that is it. Part timers don't get anything.

This is pretty much what I was expecting. But nope.

Between getting sick over the summer and recent car troubles, I'm all out of hours.

I understand getting paid extra for working on holidays. But I don't understand getting paid for not working them. Every job I have ever had, you need to give them notice and use saved PTO for holidays off. Working on holidays I usually get holiday pay, (my past hourly jobs it was time and a half, or double time) or a bonus.

Most career jobs are closed on that day. So, if they didn't pay you, you'd be missing a day of work, even if you wanted to work. That would cut your hours short for the week. Which can really hurt these days, as many people live paycheck to paycheck and need every hour they were promised (normally 40 a week). Depending on how long your days off, that could normally mean you'r missing 8-12 hours for that week.

That's why most jobs give you a paid holiday. It would technically be unfair to do that. And while they legally could, it would make that business look bad. And cause people not to work there because they are forced to not work holidays and don't get paid. But basically, they pay you because they're making you not work and would be robbing you of hours or whatever...

Getting extra money for working holidays is usually because you have to work on a holiday, which means missing out on family time or the free money that everyone else is getting. Which is why they'll pay those people more. Even if you don't care about the holiday. Because it would definitely be unfair to make you work for regular price because you don't care about the holiday when they would pay other people more just because they do... But that extra oney is usually pretty nice. Especially depending on how many hours you work. And what you're work you actually did...

I only get Christmas off. The office management is closed after until next year. Some people take the time off too (without pay) or use PTO. I can't afford that, so I'm gonna come in (it's usually chill though compared to regular work days).

I'm not really sure why office management being closed forces other people to take the time off. AFAIK, it just means custodial staff and admins aren't working.

Imagine thinking it's entitled to want to be paid for a federal holiday you aren't working. It's not uncommon.
