TBH, I'm cheap as fuck and make it known that I don't want a relationship where either person is financially dependent on the other, either by choice or by necessity.

I was pretty much disowned by my mom (and ultimately much of the rest of my family because they would never pick me over her) because I'm an atheist. She is a generally very abusive and manipulative person and had known about it for over ten years but she went through an emotionally turbulent time and decided to take it out on me.

The breaking point was when she tried to humiliate and demonize me to my little nieces and nephews on Christmas morning a few years back. She didn't just tell them that I wasn't going to get presents, though, she said I wouldn't get good things in my life.

Joke's on her, though, because forcing us out of each other's lives has been the best thing she's ever done for me. I only wish it happened sooner.

I knew better than to invest myself in this but I couldn't help it and now I feel robbed. I do not know if his family knew about this but I imagine they couldn't not.

I will now make sure they knew what a piece of shit he was but I that's hardly a consolation.

I don't feel like they're forcing it on me but it does seem like a one trick pony kind of thing. I know it's their preferred treatment but I've made it clear to them that I will not take the meds and why and it seems like they're lost after that. I don't expect them to pull a rabbit out of their asses and magic up an alternative but I also can't accept the paltry amount of information about any alternatives is all they have. If it is, I'd much rather prefer to be told, "hey, the meds are all there is and if you can't accept that, gtfo" than continue wasting time and money to go there and hear everything come back to "well the meds would really help that."

I've been on Vyvanse for about 7 years and it's been pretty much nothing but helpful. No negative side effects aside from reduced appetite (which is only a negative now because I'm trying to gain muscle).

Though in recent years I've started questioning if some negative aspects of my behaviors and thoughts are due to the medication. It's hard to tell because I was severely depressed before taking it so I don't know what my normal self is. It's a pretty complex issue that's very subtle if it's there. I feel like it may have exacerbated my anxiety due to its tendency to make me overthink anything I deem important, and it may have heightened my introversion and asociality in general because I already mostly live in my head. And something I've taken note of most recently, it may be making me anhedonic (lacking pleasure in things) and experiencing avolition (lacking motivation/initiative to achieve goals). Like depression without the sadness or fatigue.

I would highly suggest it for any short term goals (as in a handful of years), but it might not be something to use for life.

The middle part is what I'm concerned about with the medication. I also suffer from depression and anxiety, more lifelong struggles that I was only recently officially diagnosed with, so I don't have any baseline to aspire to. I don't know what to expect from them or even what it is I'm hoping to achieve other than "anything but this surely is better" but I know that's not true and that there are side effects, both physical and mental, that I feel I cannot risk. The ADHD sucks and it's negatively affecting my life but shit, I can deal with it if it means I have a life.

i appreciate looking for more organic support, but please talk to a professional about your concerns and don't rely on CE

I have been and today's visit is what prompted this topic because she's adamant about medication being the answer and has suggested some supplements and reinforced exercise but other than that she wasn't any use. This is also the second therapist I've been to and she said the same as the last, leaving me feeling like they're not really interested in anything other than prescribing medication. I'm not one to undermine the efficacy of medication for some people in these situations but as far as I go, I'm really not seeing it. Figured it wouldn't hurt to ask anyone here.

I'm 29 and was diagnosed last year but have apparently struggled with it since middle school. For a number of reasons, I'm not comfortable taking prescription medication but holy fuck, I'm strongly considering it because my ability to focus and function has taken a massive nosedive. It's probably worse than ever and all my tricks to cope are not helping at all.

I tried a google search but came up with a bunch of those sketchy health blogs and didn't want to wade through all that shit.

As has been said, the craft market is changing the industry. Big Beer is terrified of this and have been scrambling to do anything they can to keep their grip, most notably buying out successful microbreweries but the sheer number of breweries popping up offsets that. What they want to do is buy so many small breweries and keep them as fronts that people don't know what they're really buying. Before long, they'll be able to crowd out small brewers and maintain their grip.

Lots of breweries are thankfully resistant to those kind of predatory practices that help them do that and keep all the pluses of local breweries going. I have I think nearly 20 breweries within an hour drive from me with a huge variety of products far preferable to Budweiser and the like. I do not buy anything from AB and limit how much I spend on other Big Beer companies' products, which is easy as hell because of the sheer number of choices I have. Anything I could get from them I can get from another brewery and have a much better experience.

ChromaticAngel posted...
I'd rather piss into my own mouth than drink beer that was so cheap it cost $14 per half gallon.

A half gallon is not even a six pack. $14 for a six pack is either a quality beer or a store with shitty prices.

The cat seemed fine, so I stopped an oncoming car and carried it onto the side walk. I then realized the front of its face was smashed off but the rest of its body was intact. It kept jumping around and hopping until it fell over. Another car was coming so I stopped it and picked it up out of the street.

I put it down and pushed it onto its side. I have no problem putting an animal out of its misery but I just had no way to do it. I put on some gardening gloves and tried to cover the hole where its nose and mouth would be but since the rest of its body was still working, it started thrashing and scratching and kicking at me with its back legs. Same thing when I tried to push down on its chest and keep any air from getting it.

It started hissing, so I just sat there and pet it until it died. It just kept looking at me. Felt so bad for it. If I'd realized how badly it was hurt, I would've left it to get hit by another car. Probably would've been less suffering.

I have the hugest chip on my shoulder because of this. It's not just that I didn't have a mentor, it's that all of my siblings had someone great. My two siblings closest to my age had fucking amazing people in their lives and I had seriously shitty people and then no one. So I had to sit by and watch them get all this guidance, some of them even wasting it or taking it for granted, while I was dealing with damaged caused by my supposed mentors.

My life, for many reasons, turned into a very deep shit pit that I had to claw my way out of but I know it would've been extremely different if I had half the help they did from their mentor figures. I try not to have a pity party about it but it's fucking hard. They never realized what they had and what I didn't but always ridiculed me and put me down, which made it so much harder. Mostly why I don't talk to any of them fuckwads anymore lol.

I drink 96-128 oz of water a day, depending on how hot it is, how active I am, fresh fruit/veggie intake, etc. but I also use it to control my appetite. I usually end every meal with about 16 oz of water.

You have to pay attention to your body, though. If you're drinking water just to get to a certain amount, especially if you're chugging large amounts quickly, you risk doing your body harm. A few years back, I had an electrolyte imbalance and got pretty sick because I was drinking too much water too often.
