When I was a teenager and watched WWE, all I saw were cheap, trashy girls who were undoubtedly on WWE just to get famous. Many of them posed for playboy, a few had a porn past, and many of them could not wrestle.

Now? There are women like Sasha Banks, Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Naomi, Asuka, and more who can actually wrestle. Most of these women were fans of wrestling growing up, and I get the impression that they actually want to be here for reasons other than fame.

Don't know if anyone here is keeping up with wrestling right now, but on both Raw and Smackdown the women were the main event.

Never thought that would happen.

they are a business and if female wrestlers can put asses in seats, they'll do it.
they also got rid of some people like vince russo who was known for the trashy stuff.

they did have a female who was concerned more about fame in Eva Marie, she was absolutely hated by the crowd. She obviously wasnt gonna get the prepubescent crowd behind her, and so that leaves the older fans who more commonly want to see good wrestling.

They can wrestle but they some aren't that great on the mic, even the new guys are the same way.

They really messed up Bayley to the point where people want her to go back to NXT. Some girls like Emma, Summer Rae, and more are getting lost in the shuffle because they aren't as great in the ring, but make up for it with presence and promo work.

The gauntlet match Monday was fun to watch.

Isn't Eva Marie getting released soon? I heard something like that.

They are just keeping up and changing with what the demands are in modern times like most entertainment business do. Like having there own subscription network, being politacly correct, and staying on family friendly side to keep sponsors happy. They could really use some work in the creative department and writing staff though.

i don't think so. but I also don't expect her to be on WWE tv before she does get released, so she might as well be gone.

I was just thinking the other day how I feel about wrestling now the way people used to feel about it back when I watched it. I won't insult it but man, I literally cannot watch it these days and do not understand how anyone else can, especially if they watched it (and other orgs) in the past. I watched pro-wrestling for seriously two thirds of my life but I can't sit through ten minutes of it anymore. Even watching Bryan win at WM was an exercise in tedium.

most likely. She hasn't been seen since her suspension which was like last august. She isn't good in the ring, she isn't good on the mic, and the womens division is packed full of talent

It's over produced now IMO.

I was bored a month ago with my friend and we tried watching Smackdown and all of the camera movement and angles felt really weird to us.

That and none of the characters were that entertaining tbqh. Everyone seems super generic.

Haitch: Hey Vince. I got a great idea for NXT. Why don't we hire women who can actually wrestle and give them good storylines?

The women today are getting better but they're still pretty sloppy sometimes and pretty bad on the mic. One on hand, I do like that they are letting the women be more aggressive and letting them do the big spots usually reserved for the men, but the pandering of HISTORIC Hell in a Cell, HISTORIC MitB, HISTORIC Last Woman Standing Match, etc. gets pretty old.

The women's division itself is much better, as is the match quality, but WWE's booking of said women's division is still almost as bad as it always was.

Whoever the idiot was that came up with the idea for Charlotte to become a 4-time Women's champion and Sasha a 3-time Women's champion before any other woman even won the new belt a single time, he deserves to be fired. That kind of hot potato completely devalued the new belt right off the bat.

And then all the HISTORIC matches MAKING HISTORY... I swear, I wanted to punch Michael Cole in the jaw with how many times he used those phrases. We know they're making history, Vince. You don't have to yell into Cole's headset and make him remind us about it every 30 seconds.

they need to go with my idea that every wrestler should have their own writer. that way they can get unique, individualized characters and story arcs. then when two wrestlers have a feud, those writers can collaborate together on how the feud goes.

thats because most are super generic and wwe is determined to keep them that way til they can stamp the WWE brand on them. so many of them are given so little to work with and not much investment from the writers.

The last time I remember watching the WWE their big thing with women were bra and panties matches and some sort of thing where a girl fought a girl and if the girl lost she'd have to have a threesome with that girl and some other dude and they shot a promo of them in their bra and panties with one of the girls getting all close to where their boobs were touching each other, I remember this extremely well because my brother was shaking like Butthead when he goes "Fire fire!" in excitement at it.

I also remember the tori wilson thing and being weird'ed out that something that dark came out of it years later.

The women's division was one of the things that stood out when I started watching again (for a while at least) a few years back. I think the Attitude Era kind of skewed things, though. Before that there weren't as many televised matches, but what was there was quality, especially if we're counting WCW which had some really talented women. The AE was when they started putting non-wrestlers in matches and that's when it got bad, which is probably the only thing most people remember now.

I do think the talent is at an all-time high now, but it's still pretty low-tier compared to Japan's female divisions.
