A lot of people say Fusion isn't a metroidvania.

I think it's pretty dumb to gatekeep the term based on a vague amount of non-linearity that no one can agree how much of it a game needs before it's "officially" a metroidvania.

A better example is Iconoclasts, which has a metroid-style grid map, upgrades, and 2d platformer gameplay + combat, but is almost entirely linear with a set order you traverse all areas in. Moreso than Fusion which breaks down at the halfway point and has you backtracking through the areas that were previously linear.

I found this puzzle to be really unsatisfying. WTF is a Tonga. According to the dictionary it's an Indian horse drawn two wheeled vehicle. Couple things

Has anyone here guessed a word in two tries? My best is three and I've been playing tons of games on another website with no daily limit.

And can anyone think of an "objectively" better starting word than ARISE? It hits the three most common vowels and two of the four most common consonants. Theoretically, any word that substitutes the S with T or N would be more beneficial, but I can't think of one.

I got ROBOT in two because I often use ROUSE as my starting word. Just luck really.

It's probably not the most optimal first word but I like to be a hipster and ARISE/ADIEU are too popular. I'm still getting 3 vowels!

i'm pretty sure you wanna start with a basic combo to get your buff/dot up, then go into PB, and the first PB will be matching-3 one, so just three opo-opo (boots/kicks) like old monk

the second PB window is where you do different-3

yeah uh that's not really it. anyone doing savage right now (at least, fights 3 and 4) definitely has optimal gear and melds, and you cannot clear the final fight without using top grade potions. there isn't anything to figure out, best gear/melds were solved before the servers even went up.

man these balance issues

cleared the first phase of p4s today as dancer, did about 7300 rdps which got me a 91st percentile parse, 3rd out of 32 dancers who have cleared the fight

i was curious so i checked, a bard that did 7300 rdps would be about 150 out of 230 cleared bards, and only have a 35th percentile

i'm feeling sort of self-conscious 'cause i feel i'm griefing, the DPS check is so tight we had to do a flawless run and even then just barely beat it with 6 seconds to spare. idk how much difference it makes but bards are doing about 300 more rdps than dancer on average, so...

i'm trash at bard though so i really couldn't have switched over anyway

hopefully phase 2 goes alright

(people make crafter V materia go for like 5x its price for a while because of The Balance/Teamcraft's guide on minimum stat melding. 5's were cheaper than 7's by like 5x for a while today(for the melding/crafting uninitiated: you can use 5/7/9's on any overmelds. so if a higher tier is cheaper... that almost goes against common sense, but people were melding to the specific list and didn't know common sense))

lol, i noticed the same thing when i was melding my set. Vs going for like 20k each, and then VIIs, or even IXs sometimes, going for half that! crazy how people just follow the list blindly without knowing how it actually works.

and yeah, materia flipping was... something. those direct hit IXs i sold for 25k? they were all bought for 5k or less two weeks ago

the annoying thing though is that on my server, crit IX dropped down to like 4k halfway through the day -_- it eventually went back up a bit to like 7k but man, what a waste, i had like 400 of those to sell

Phew, the aphorism mats I bought rebounded a little and I was able to sell them all for over 10k each. Probably made about 3M today. Not amazing and I'm sure I could've made at least five times that if I had prepped and played all day specifically trying to make money, but 3M for minimal effort in one day is still pretty solid.

i really don't know. i mean, the gear i sold (about 10 pieces) totaled up to around 3.5MIL.

that's with spending only a couple hours making it, between having to also craft my own personal set, get 450 tomestones, and go raid in the afternoon, but even if i had more time, i'd have been limited by tomestone mats and had to buy them off the marketboard to craft more

honestly i think selling the tomestone mats was more efficient than selling gear, they were going for a lot

you could've made a bit more if you spent all 2000 tomes on this and sold twice what i did, but 15mil, from crafted gear? i'm not sure.

i think crafted gear is even less likely to sell than usual at the start of an expansion - because it's the only time an ex trial gives 580 accesories, so non-hardcores only need to buy left-side... and in 3 weeks you can already have gotten 4 left-side pieces from normal raids!

MCH also has a similar issue with skill speed and crit. Hypercharge and its OGCds are unaffected by skill speed, I think Queen as well, and crit is high value. So I'm not sure it'll be entirely solved by gear, although it's possible DNC scales even better than MCH. I know the least about it of the three ranged.

I think the best hope for Dancer is that it remains the best ranged for boosting people at very high level play

yeah, MCH doesn't like skill speed either, but it's not completely worthless like it is on dancer.

and yeah, that's the other thing, dancer gets better as everyone else gets better. i mean, bard does too now more than before though, right? so, we'll see. but i heard that's the reason dancer always starts a bit weaker and gets stronger every week.

oh yeah, so the answer to "do you lose out by not crafting combat sets at 5am" is very much no, not at all

i checked the market boards at like 9am after spending 2 hours doing a hunt train and wondering if that'd put me behind - but no. the history showed only a dozen pieces of the chestpiece i looked up had even sold since the time the servers went up - with dozens more still listed on the board.

It's also weird that Dancer didn't get any potency buffs considering it's behind the other two ranged in a similar way to how SMN/DRG/NIN were buffed, but it could be the number squish flattening the need to do that or they're banking on it getting better with time or something.

i'm pretty disappointed as well since i'm, uh, raiding as dancer.

the only thing to say though is that dancer does suffer the most from bad gear - Skill speed is actually worthless for us, it makes standard step come off cooldown too late, so you just have to wait half a second to use it, which negates the advantage of the speed in the first place.

So now that we can construct a gearset without skillspeed, our damage may go up slightly. Not sure that's anywhere near enough to close the gap, but I think Dancer also gets high benefit from crit numbers being higher, which gear also helps with. i don't quite know why, i've just heard dancer always increases as an expansion goes on since more crit breakpoints are hit.

I mean, if you have to live life by tiptoeing around the idea that you might upset anyone that had a bad experience at any point, you can't actually do anything meaningful or exciting in life, if you really think about it (really think about it).

I agree with this view when it comes to things that you'd do in, like, private, or 1-on-1 contexts. i.e. things with a limited scope, like "don't say this word because it could offend someone in the room with you" "don't bring donuts to your workplace in case someone has an eating disorder" etc

in fact both of those examples (there's any number i could think of) can both have the person say "hey please don't do this actually, it's no big deal that you didn't know, but i'd prefer you don't" because you are in direct contact with the people affected

But when the scope of the action is "any pets living in a nearby radius could feel terrified", and you have no way of knowing who is or isn't okay with it or for them to ask you not to, then I think that crosses a line that those other scenarios don't
