Horsea/Seadra has Kingdra but on their own they're pretty forgettable.

I really think they would be the easy answer here without Kingdra. So many water types in gen I, only available through fishing - but getting an evolution and having that evolution be the only new Dragon in Gen 2 did wonders. They would otherwise have to be less memorable than Krabby/Kingler, right?

I just did the sporcle quiz again and I failed to remember Tentacool/Tentacruel (even while telling myself it was likely a poison and/or water type), with Drowzee/Hypno being my final guess several minutes after everything else. Tentacool seems weird to forget, considering how overwhelmingly common it was in the early games...

For whatever reason, I almost always forget the Meowth line until near the end. Am I the only one? If not for the anime, I wouldn't be surprised if it had ended up being among the forgotten. It's never felt that prominent in the games and Persian really fits the 'it's just an animal' vibe of so many Gen I Pokemon.

I wish lists like this would cluster some games and franchises together. There's no reason to point to the original Tetris and not just the general concept that has been reproduced a hundred times over.

I see plenty of lists like these that include games like the original Civilization seemingly as a representative of the franchise as a whole, but why not make that clear? Why would anyone recommend the original Civilization in this day and age over those that followed? I feel like these lists are made in a similar vein to lists about films and music and whatever, but those mediums rarely if ever have works that can be considered direct improvements of a work that came before; certain games have a near-obsolete point where it seems disingenuous to bring them up on their own.

Overall, I'd say it seems like one of the stronger packs. Joke Boat and Dictionarium have their place, and Push the Button and TMP2 are both some of the better games in the series. I can see opinions of Role Models being mixed but I enjoy the concept of trying to deduct how your group of friends actually view each other.

Among that group, we did (non-descript) Pokemon, Monsters, and Musicals, and I ended up being voted the Magikarp, Mummy, and Hamilton of the group and I don't know how I feel about any of those...

Got a chance to try a round of each last night (ahead of having both Saturday and Sunday dedicated to the release with two groups of friends), and my initial thoughts:

Push the Button is an immediate classic, definitely top tier and in the running for my favorite in the series. A much better attempt at deduction games than Fakin' It, mixed with a lot of the stronger elements of the overall series.

Trivia Murder Party 2 is, of course, the first game but better; the mini-games seem more fun this time around, though I'll have to see how that plays out over time - I always hated how common the finger game was in the first version and hope this one manages to avoid that

I enjoy the concept of Role Models quite a bit, but some things are vague enough that it's hard to categorize people - but I was playing with a group that I don't know quite enough? I'll see how the next two nights go with my more regular friends

Joke Boat is in the vein of their other comedy games, which means I find it more stressful than anything. I think I prefer the structure of Mad Verse City and would always rather fall back on Quiplash than either? But I imagine it will work for those who prefer this particular brand of Jackbox

Dictionarium seems a bit too simplistic? I feel it specifically ends on a weak note with having to use the word in a sentence, which doesn't seem as funny as the initial construction of a definition

To the people complaining about no 1979 option: vote "other." It's not that difficult.

It's more along the lines that the TC is intentionally trying to make '1979' look less popular by clustering it in with most of the band's other songs. If you make a poll like this and the other option is dominating, you're doing something wrong. And now he's admitting to sabotaging his own topic series by intentionally not listing something he knew people would vote for, so...what's the point, exactly? Why even have a poll if you're going to act like this?

Kid A and OK Computer are close enough for me that they're nearly interchangeable, while The Bends and In Rainbows also tend to be. The top six are really in distinct tiers of two for me. Kid A/OK Computer are clearly above In Rainbows/The Bends which are clearly above AMSP/Amnesiac, but all six of those are probably in my top 200 albums while the remaining three aren't even in the top 1000.

Other rock songs that I think would be key for this era are "Hate To Say I Told You So," "Maps," and literally any of Coldplay's hits from their first two albums - but it looks like you mainly kept to harder rock, though I'd still argue "Hate To Say I Told You So" for that zone.

Yeah, I totally know Foo Fighters and could name a dozen big hits, but I don't think that was one of them here.

My vote was easily for Seven Nation Army, as it's the big one that actually lasted beyond its own era. That, Take Me Out, and Hey Ya feel like the decade defining songs to me as far as both initial success and lasting impact.

This is definitely a case where the answer is dependent on where you are in the world. Basically echoing what Steiner said, I've never heard the first three songs on the poll played on the radio in the UK, even on stations specialising in rock. 'Seven Nation Army' on the other hand is probably the most ubiquitous rock song of that time frame; possibly even of the century. It's just never gone away since release.

do you have a feel for "all my life"'s place here? seems like the most glaring oversight and the song i would have voted for if it made the poll - is that a uk thing you think?

I have no idea what All My Life is and googling isn't making it obvious either.

For my two movies this week, I'm catching It: Chapter Two and some Chinese animated film named Ne Zha that for some reason is #9 at the worldwide box office? Did something happen in the Chinese film industry recently? This and Wandering Earth both were big enough within China alone to reach numbers usually reserved for worldwide blockbusters and I'm not sure why there has been a sudden change.

Spent my day at the theater, watched The Art of Self-Defense, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and Yesterday.

Art of Self-Defense was such a bonkers experience, a black comedy that almost morphs into surrealist horror while rarely losing its edge? A big surprise for me.

OUATIH is more Tarantino goodness, easily among his best. The ending has me feeling so many ways.

Yesterday was as expected, an entirely bland experience that doesn't really tackle its subject matter as well as it could have. Instead, it's a by-the-numbers rom-com.

An 89% on Rottentomatoes (where practically every other movie has a positive score too), a 7.2 on IMDb, and a 3.0/5.0 on Letterboxd. Audience scores certainly aren't consistent across sources.

My main idea of a console Pokemon game largely involved being able to see the Pokemon roaming around in their natural environment, which this game (along with Let's Go) is doing.

The immersion there really comes down to how detailed they go, which I doubt is much - though, at the same time, more focus on immersion means more time with each individual Pokemon's animations which means less Pokemon, apparently.

So, right now, it seems like there are sacrifices in both directions. The behavior isn't detailed enough (I'd want to see Pokemon interacting in specific ways, not simply wandering around) while also still requiring a certain amount of effort that is taking up resources.

Which is why I like the idea of a simpler battle-focused app while the main games go all in on bringing the world to life - but they really have to do more effort to justify it. I want to watch Zangoose duke it out with Seviper, Tauros stampeding through the field, all of that. For me, that would be worth the cost of less in-game Pokemon.

For me, all they really need to do is have battles in Home; treat it as the competitive hub (though they'd hopefully have a way to improve Pokemon incompatible with SwSh to some extent). Have a more simplified system visually for competitive battles, and I'll accept lightening the load for the more intensive adventure games.
