June 20:

The original plan for the end of "Helter Skelter" was to have Ringo Starr shout "I've got duct tape on my fingers." However, realizing that he forgot to put duct tape on his fingers before beginning the session, they spent over 20 minutes jamming before he thought of a proper replacement line, which lead into the now famous delivery of the line "I've got blisters on my fingers." Luckily this time, this wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for Ringo's history of incompetence. John Lennon would repeat this endless jam session when he realized he forgot to put an actual song in "Revolution 9," but gave up without actually accomplishing his goals.

Listened to it last night, and wow. I was not expecting it to be that good. The other Hot Chip albums seem to have quite a few misses that get balanced out with some truly excellent songs, but this album was great through and through, easily their most consistent album to date, and just all around fun. It's great to see this band finally improving, definitely check this album out. Best song was "Let Me Be Him," though there are easily enough songs to choose from for favorite picks.

My favorite is The Warning, and I give a very slight edge to One Life Stand over Made in the Dark (they're only 4 spots apart on my album lists).

Aw yeah, rocking that 80 on metacritic. Though there's only 10 reviews, and the past three albums by Hot Chip all got 78-79...

Really, that amazes me, as their last album and this album seem to be big steps off from the two before that, yet critics apparently consider them all of about equal quality. I still find it strange how critics seem to consider One Life Stand their best work, yet completely forgot it when it came to end of the year lists in 2010, though 2010 was a really awesome year for albums.

How are you doing the point system?

Right now, I'm using a formula that separates everyone's votes into the top 10%, then next 20, 30, and 40. The points handed out are scaled from 30 to 10, with every percent category representing 5 points. So, with 100 movies, #1 gets 30 points, #11 gets 25, #31 get 20, #61 gets 15, and the non-existent #101 gets 10. Though, this is just preliminary, I'll probably change it once things look wrong. I'm making it where both everyone's list gets equal representation while not hurting films due to different people listing less than others.

I'm the only one here who cares, aren't I? I have this weird obsession with this band now, and with LCD Soundsystem gone, I feel like they're the only band filling that particular style's void.

Let's hope it combines the fun of The Warning with the 'maturity' of One Life Stand.

For example, after adding TVontheRadio's list, only 12 of his 75 entries were new. So, yes, quite a few films are being repeated already.

There have been 376 movies mentioned so far, 93 of which have reached over 30 points. All that really takes is two users rating it rather highly, or just a few mentioning it, it doesn't seem like it'd be that uncommon to have about a fourth be repeated. A handful of movies already have 5 people mentioning them, and that's with only 8 people's lists added so far.

Yeah, sorry mada, but I'm going to have to make Kill Bill into just Vol. 1. I had to do the same myself for the Lord of the Rings, which is why I only voted for Return of the King.

I haven't really been paying much attention to board 8 over the past year, what are the other top 100 lists that are still actively being done?

Any more lists? I have everything so far in an excel file. Right now, I have 93 films at an acceptable level with the formula I'm using, which I measure with the fact that there are 93 movies which have scored more than 30 points, as 30 is what everyone's number 1 film gets. I want every film on this list to be on at least two lists, and it looks like it's working, so good.
