Learn each individual enemy's movements. You should know where they are gonna be in 1 move but also in 5 or 10 movements. Once that sense becomes second nature, playing the game becomes really fluent. It really is like a language so everything you do adds to your understanding and soon enough you're good.

It took me hours to beat zone 1 my first time though. Then zone 2 was like a whole new game starting from scratch. Then when I was able to beat the whole game pretty easily, Aria took me another 25~ hours to beat. It is really brutal but you learn so much each step that it's really rewarding.

this is pretty interesting. its the exact opposite of what i was expecting, but it's still a good thing. I was expecting a straight up Necrodancer game with like zelda style enemies, attacks, items etc.

It's like the exact opposite, its a Zelda adventure/exploration game with necrodancer elements (+ moving to the beat obv).

I don't get though why I have to move to the beat in this game? There's no multiplier or timer or anything, so what do I get by doing this?

yeah but that was always a tactic you could use in the original if you needed to either think for a sec, or let an enemy move into a more advantageous position, with the drawback being you lose your multiplier which would affect coin drops and obsidian weapons

in this game sure there may be a multiplier for rupees/diamonds, but its not made apparent what the multiplier is, and there's also no timer so losing your multiplier doesn't seem like a big deal at all in this game, whereas it could be a sort of bad detriment in Necrodancer.

8 hours to 100% the game is a little worrying honestly. Is there more replayability beyond that?

I mean I'm familiar with roguelikes (200 hours into Binding of Isaac) but 8 hours seems really short for this genre of game.

Necrodancer's replayability essentially relied on 2 things: score, and time. You could beat something, but beating it with a high score, or low time, was a totally different challenge, and required deep mastery.

True but I also found a lot of joy in just unlocking items too. I mean I put around 40 hours or so into Necrodancer and didn't come close to unlocking all of the stuff. If everything is unlocked in 8 hours with this game that seems like a big departure.

my 100% is at 10 hours but I pretty much had everyone 2 hours previous I just had to then double back like every chest and stairs on the map looking for a couple missing things

friendly Deku Seeds tip there's a hell of a bunch 'o Deku Seeds in the Last Woods maze section, keep your eye out each screen for butterfly bushes and cracked walls - there's multiple and one should have a bunch of Deku

I forgot about that, that was definitely a bit part of the early game. But I def got all the items by like 15 hours, it shouldn't be 40 hours... I guess the DLC does add quite a bit but still.

But the key is that you unlock the items to randomly show up, you don't just get them, which it sounds like is how CoH works?

I will not be streaming but I will probably be racing. I think a reasonable goal for me to hit would be 1:15 for my first attempt, but it's hard to say exactly how long this should take. Spooty has set the WR at something like 37 minutes if i'm not mistaken, but he was on the playtesting team so he had a head start. I know some other people have gotten in the 40 minute range.

Agree with this, this is by far my biggest gripe with the game, figuring out what to do about height is never intuitive
