Its similar in that enemies respawn when you hit up the rest points (like the bonfires in your average souls game) and that you level up using souls, but to be honest I would say that is as similar as it gets when it comes to nioh in comparison to dark souls.

With nioh games there is no giant interconnected map. You pick stages as "missions" and then the goal is to get through the level. There is a whole lotta' loot.....think something like borderlands and diablo since the loot has rarity levels to them. There is set bonuses, and eventually you learn the ability to customize the skills that comes on this random loot (you usually don't have to go too deep into this customizing system until you start playing on harder difficulties in the new game plus runs through the game).

General nioh gameplay loop is pick mission, get through it and die trying, level up, get loot, level up the general skills and weapon skills for your weapons of choice (and same with your magic and ninjutsu), rinse and repeat. Then if you really ended up liking the game by the time you beat it, you do the same thing in the next difficulty level and with finding even better loot.

There is a co-op function where you can go through the levels with 2 or 3 other players if you want, and nioh 2 introduced this ability to summon player phantoms controlled by the AI to accompany you through the missions until they die (when they do die then you can just find more of these blue player ghost graves to resummon more phantoms).

Combat is fast paced. There is this mechanic called ki pulse that you use to manage your ki (kind of like a stamina bar) to put pressure on enemies to open'em up for killing blows. (and vice versa for you if you are too passive). You have 3 stances for attack (high stance, mid stance and low stance. High stance is generally big damage moves but bit stamina requirement to swing, mid stance is usually a more defensive option and tends to have some parries, and low stance is for low damage but quick on your feet combat). When you start ki pulsing and swapping your stances at the same time it feels pretty awesome.

You can also use omnyo magic (basically spells. Attack spells, buffs, heals, etc.) and ninjutsu. Nioh 2 introduced this mechanic where you can transform into a oni for a bit. I'm not sure if this carries over to nioh 3 but I think it does? Actually I'm not sure if you even make your own character in this one, lol (they might have went back to the nioh 1 style where you play as a certain person compared to nioh 2 in which you was a half-demon create-a-character). I'm about to boot it up myself.

Yes and no. The best way I can describe it is "Souls if it was Diablo". It has the same basic structure as a souls-game (Epic boss fights, I-frame abuse, EXP collection on death), but unlike "fashion souls", gear is paramount in Nioh. Enemies level as you progress, so if you want to keep up, you have to constantly swap out your loadout. And since the loot is randomized, there is no guarantee that you will find a higher-level version of something you were wearing earlier. Late-game, there are ways to get exactly what you want, with specific perks and bonuses, but it's not something you'll concern yourself with too much early game (you just take what RNGesus gives you)

The level-design is also very different compared to souls. Whereas Souls tends to be large interconnected worlds, Nioh takes a mission-based approach. You'll be dropped into a level (excluding side-missions, they are all unique maps), with the main goal of reaching a boss at the end of the stage. Once he is defeated, you get some loot (and sometimes other upgrades), and then sent back to the overworld.

thanks that actually sounds pretty cool. looks like i have the first 2 games as free monthly games. so should i just start at 1? or would i be better off starting with 2 with the extra abilities?

i have a feeling that might be how i end up buying one once a game i actually wants to play comes out for it. just randomly see it in store and be like screw it why not

i'm sure i'm forgetting a few. currently playing AC black flag and balatro. also tried to get back into tony hawk 1 + 2 but i keep getting annoyed at how bad i suck at the game when i was a beast at it back on ps1/64/ps2 but trying to tell myself that was 20 years ago since i've really played them.

for those that beat doom dark ages how was it? i beat 2016 and loved it. planning to start up eternal soon. know i heard eternal is a bit different from 2016. i'm assuming dark ages is more like eternal than 2016?

so what's it like for someone that hasn't played? is it kinda similar to the souls games? that's what it's reminded me of. i think i have one of them i got free but never got around to trying it.

they are small market though. but it's nfl so even small markets have a lot of fans. way more people would watch that super bowl over the knicks vs lakers in the finals.

super bowl could be packers vs bills if you want the 2 smallest markets and lots of people will watch. would probably still do at least double or triple what the knicks vs lakers would do. hell browns are pretty hated but if they made it to the super bowl people would watch just to see if they could do something for the first time in forever.

don't really see the point when most of us already have the trilogy. pretty sure it was on ps+ monthly awhile ago. but cool for the diehard fans that want more versions of it. the cowabunga collection was great.

i also think the GBA versions are weird but maybe the console ones just haven't been announced yet.

i'm less interested in it without capcom being involved. i'm not big on fighters in general though but i will get one once in awhile. mainly just play whatever ones come out free on ps+. think last one i actually bought have been dbz games. fighterz if you want a true fighter since kakarot is more just an action rpg.

i been using edge since i built this computer and it's fine tbh. my laptop and phone i use chrome. used to use firefox but on my current or maybe it was my old laptop it got to the point that firefox would just not work for some reason. like it would just be like dialup just trying to open the homepage and freeze up but chrome worked perfectly fine. i'm sure on here i could just go back to firefox but just haven't had enough reason to.

i switched to google as the search engine immediately. that's bad enough but better than bing and a lot of others. but they're basically all trash now since even duckduckgo sold out. i'm sure there's some better options out there but don't think any would work natively with the search bar without having to do more work than needed when 99.9% of the time google is fine.

no except i guess mario kart. donkey kong is the only other big game and that's in 6 weeks.

they've been gone for like at least a year. maybe a few years. i barely buy them but last time i did i was like wtf where's the sleeve? never tried to microwave them. i've always put them in the air fryer since i got one.

nothing has changed with the game other than the nintendo direct saying "2025" but devs haven't said a word in like years. so i'll believe it when i see it but with how big the original was it would make more sense to hype the game up and give it a proper release announcement at least. a shadow drops scares me the game might suck and they just threw it out there and didn't wanna do anymore work on it. but obviously hoping it's at least 75% as good as the original.

i'm not worried about it. i beat part 1 but haven't started part 2 yet. i'm sure some of the youtubers i'm subbed to will end up playing it but like i'll just ignore them. even if something does get spoiled for me i'll forget about it before i get around to playing it. i don't even remember any of the characters names.

i'm guessing war raiders will be gone when their contract is up as well. if not before depending on how long they have left. they really haven't done much since they lost the titles. even won they won they didn't really do much either. them and sarah if she still wants to wrestle would be good in TNA though.

never beat triforce heroes which some sites call a main game for some reason. i have beat four swords. never touched the cdi games for obvious reasons. recently did just beat the first hyrule warriors game. eventually i will start up the 2nd although i really wasn't a fan of the first game. just never been into dynasty warriors but zelda theme does help. i do have cadence of hyrule but haven't started it yet.

I'm sure a lot of people here have beat them. I still own PoR and DoS but I picked up the other 2 collections like a year ago so time to get this one as well. Great games and looks like they added "Haunted Castle" to this so that would be cool to check out as well. Mainly just got them to play on the larger screen and the switch is more comfortable to play than the 3DS or DS.

no. none of the games they shown really interest me much. the few i do wanna play will be on switch 1. donkey kong i'm not sold on so waiting a few months to get honest reviews on it. haven't really played many souls games except bloodborne and tried demon souls so not really interested in them being on switch 2. i'd like to play mario kart but not enough to spend $500 on it.

now when we get a new zelda or mario i'd probably pick it up. or if they somehow decide to put out a new f zero or punch out game.

yes if they just go back to OG guitar hero and don't do GH live again. the problem is if they do rockband probably will as well. but think just a basic guitar only game again would be better. i'm seeing GH live was $100 when it came out. so probably be like $150 for a new game which is fine i guess. but if they could somehow release it for $100 i can see a lot of people picking it up again.

mostly loved it. so much hype in season 1 and 2. the first half of season 3 was pretty bad and i fell off after that for years till season 4 finally came out. season 4 taking 4 years to finish ruined a lot plus just how bad the 2 specials were. it's seems to be getting common for a lot of animes to start great and then become something you can't really recommend to people because of how bad they end.

yea i never seen the japanese art before and had to do a double take with that lmao.

easily voted the NA SNES version. i think the switch remake would have been a great version if they put the castle and stuff in it. that and the japanese one just took so bland without it.

i mean it's only a matter of time till they give up on the console market. maybe they try once but haven't heard anything about them making a new one yet and ps6 should be coming in 2027 if not possibly even late next year. but only the 360 sold well and even that came in last in it's gen even with the year head start. eventually the ps3 still surpassed it.

i did think they wouldn't do a standard console and would be looking more into doing a steamdeck type console instead. similar to the switch where the xboxdeck would be about the same power as the series x docked but also get like 2 hour battery life in handheld mode.

then mostly still just focus on gamepass and putting games on sony and nintendo consoles. still waiting on the day sony lets them put gamepass on it. would probably take them giving sony like a 25% cut of the money to get them to agree though. but gamepass is definitely better than ps+ extra/premium. i had a year of extra since it was on sale for the same price as essential. it was cool for a few months and then got annoyed with how many games they take off and majority of the new ones haven't been great most months. and definitely no big day 1 games like gamepass gets.

i got one for christmas. the 3rd book? whatever one in the beginning they come to pick up harry in their flying car in the beginning. at the time i might have seen the first movie but not even sure of that. i read the first few chapters and then just didn't really care about it and stopped. i didn't even start to see the movies till right before the 6th one came out i marathoned like the first 3 movies with a friend cause she wanted to see the new one in theater. eventually i did finish the rest of the movies in the series. only seen them once besides the original a few times. never cared enough to read them and after everything with the creator i definitely wouldn't buy them.

it was fine i guess. the ending and last few episodes was an abomination though. so overally last season was the worst but season 4 kinda sucked too.

why do no shows have any idea of how to end it? can't think of too many that actually had a great finale and great final season/s. like the office had a great finale but last season sucked overall. then game of thrones, dexter, and others completely ruin the final season of their shows and get notorious for how bad it was. then HIMYM was one that was great throughout pretty much the whole show and then just completely butcher the last 5 minutes to ruin everything.

i'd assume it would end up costing way more to get people to use it since they'd need all new hardware to get onto it. it's similar to the bluray and HD DVD from years ago except this would be like coming out with HD DVD now and trying to take the bluray market.

knicks should have a clear path to the finals

indy is gonna be way tougher than a lot of people think. they crushed the cavs. plus pacers have had a few days rest and think knicks just get the 2 days off and then back to every other day basketball. plus pacers have way more depth.

as for okc i think it's crazy anyone is counting out jokic and the nuggets till the games over. but okc is still a heavy favorite to win till they lose.

i've wondered the same. i never really paid attention with how bad it was at launch. had a friend with it and watched him play a bit and didn't wow me. dunno if i'd buy it but if it ever gets released free on something i'd try it out.

so after beating 3 i thought he got into the world ends with you world but that doesn't actually seem to be the case. that was actually set in japan and whatever the girl said this place was called i don't remember it in any of the games i've played. is it from one of the later FF games i never played? of it is something new they just created for the game?

was pretty hype thinking they put twewy in the universe too. so dissapointed it's not and the art style i don't really care for. i'm sure i'll still get the game around launch and think it'll still be fun but 3 really should have been the end.

is it just me or did they make the switch 1 version look better in this than it actually was? i only seen clips of it on youtube but it looked more like a GC game than a game released a couple years ago.

the switch 2 version looks like it might be worse than the ps4 version. if not on par. i beat it on ps5 but it's a game i know i'd never bother playing again. could have been so much better. damn people hyping it up like crazy made me buy it and it's fun like the first 5-10 hours and then realize the game is a bit shallow.
