Looking more and more like a Disney game...

They are trying to keep all screenshot vague so we don't know what worlds he goes to. But I'm hoping for Marvel and Star Wars

I still do not like this art style/engine for KH. It's jarring

looks like those unreal engine mario 64 vids. i don't like hyperrealism, and don't much care for every final fantasy/kingdom hearts character looking like the same "perfect" porcelain skinned pretty boy/model on top of it

I'm guessing it'll be like KH3 where some worlds change the style, and that world has a hyperrealistic one too

Very stupid places.

Sora died or something at the end of KH3 after reset buttoning everyone dying, including himself, and he ended up in some alternate world that is, in universe, the setting of an FF15-like game.

That's exactly what it is, I couldn't put my finger on it. It's like a bunch of real life toys moving around.

KH2 struck a weird balance of floaty, but grounded and weighty

KH3 was floaty af, like a puck in a air hockey game

We probably have seen true KH4 gameplay but every screen shot makes it look super automated, like FF15s dookie combat, but more whimsical

Was about to say it needs more Final Fantasy but I haven't played any since FF12, which was close to 20 years ago so...

Looks terrible

But Kingdom Hearts is terrible so that tracks

Probably the only one here excited, story in KH3 was meh, but I really enjoyed the gameplay, and the gameplay mechanics of each world.

Next "didn't meet expectations" game from square enix right here. This anime spiky hair boy band looking stuff isn't popular anymore. This is straight out of 2015. And they wonder why none of their stuff is succeeding.

KH3 is the best-selling game in the series, and was one of the highest-selling games of 2019.

Square's sales expectations being missed are due to bloated budgets and games being relegated to single platforms.

FF15 was the one of the highest selling games of 2016. Look what happened to FF16. Times change. Keep releasing the same thing after a decade passes and trends change and you'll be paying for it, financially, as square has already been learning the hard way.

Yes, it was received well, but released only on PS5, and had the budget of something that should have been multi-platform.

FF16 is also the 5th best-selling PS5 game ever.

That was mainly due to a crazy budget and it only being initially on PS5, which Square has said they're not doing anymore. I think it still sold a few million copies though

Guys - this looks like some stuff right out of Crisis Core or something. That's not in style anymore. The budget for these games are huge - this is going to be like ff7 rebirth where they're scratching their heads that their over the top anime boy band style game isn't selling 20 million copies.

What is with the art style? Pass.

I barely have an interest in Kingdom Hearts and the direction with the art style is super confusing. I've only played 1, 2, Chain of Memories, and Birth by Sleep. I think I have less interest in this game than I did in King Hearts 3 (Whenever anyone talks about it it's always...meh sounding).

Idk why theyve been treating kingdom hearts and FF like it was ever a particularly big or profitable series enough to justify putting this much time, budget, resources and effort into each game.

Releasing numerous spin offs and acting like the mainline games are going to pull GTA or red dead sales figures or something.

With FF15 in particularly being the worst offender. All that work for essentially a one off 30hr game made no damn sense at all.

I agree, it's kinda lost all its charm. Should've gone for a more stylized look instead of making everything just look realistic

so after beating 3 i thought he got into the world ends with you world but that doesn't actually seem to be the case. that was actually set in japan and whatever the girl said this place was called i don't remember it in any of the games i've played. is it from one of the later FF games i never played? of it is something new they just created for the game?

TWEWY was included in Dream Drop Distance.

Now looking at it on my computer, yeah I don't dig that art style. It's way too uncanny for a video game series about anime boys teaming up with Mickey Mouse.

Many are of the belief that Sora will only look that realistic in that world, due to something that was said about characters matching the location, or something like that.

I've not played the DLC which apparently expands on this, but you know how the Toy Story world had that Final Fantasy parody game and some of the toys think Sora is a toy from that game?

Well, apparently that video game is a real world and Sora ends up there.

My hope is that KH4 will have some retro worlds from the 2D Disney era included

I wasnt really a fan of the Pixar/CGI era Disney worlds in 3 but Im also less familiar with those movies except Toy Story

I would love if Robin Hood, Sword in the Stone, Jungle Book, Pocahontas, or hell even James and the Giant Peach being in 4 would be cool

I do not see Disney letting them do Pocahontas lol

Jungle book was meant to be in BBS but got scrapped.

Sadly seems it's moving the opposite direction and may end up focusing on live action acquisitions like SW/Marvel

The city is an original world called Quadratum, which means Square. But it's also still literally just Tokyo, the scene from the trailer three years ago where Sora fights Darkside is set outside the Shibuya Hikarie building.

Forest moon of Endor was in the reveal trailer.

Yeah, KH1 felt the most like a pure marriage of Square Enix and Disney designs in terms of story. Classic shit like a Disney villain manipulating one of the good guys to turn on his friends, more time spent interacting with the characters of each world... BBS is the only game that felt the closest to a "return to form" of KH1, with a new villain that looked like he was both Square Enix, but also having some of the obvious signs of being an evil villain you'd see from Disney. Admittedly, KH1 felt more like Square's baby at the very end of the game when you get to The End of The World and find out Kingdom Hearts is an actual thing. But every game since has felt like Square just doesn't even want Disney properties anymore.

No sequel will ever recapture the magic & charm of the first game.

Anime spiky boy band stuff is just as popular as ever, possibly even having a resurgence, what are you on about? Kingdom Hearts itself has had a successful game since 2015 hasn't it?

Yeah, I think I'm done with the series after the disappointment that was KH3. This art style does not work for me at all either. Series has completely lost its magic.
