Like what do you want dude? lmao Like, I don't even care if people celebrate his death. I get it. But saying he's somehow getting away with being horrible when he's dead is weird.

Just my personal philosophy that forgetting he existed means a lot more than celebrating his death.

That might be why I hate the character even more. His situation was completely unique and necessary for a castaway story, but it materializes into absolutely nothing because his off-Island arc is so grossly underwritten.
I mean, this was also the season with the writer's strike, so I give them a ton of leeway with that season all things considered.

I feel like Michael is vastly underrated in the show.

Ultimately, his story could have been better realized, but as a character it makes sense that he spent two seasons WAAAAAALTing and trying to actually make a raft to get off the island, which is more than a lot of characters had tried doing in the first season. Yeah, he sowed a lot of discord, but he felt like a real dude more than most of the characters on the island. His betrayal and murder of Ana Lucia makes sense that Walt is kidnapped and he's willing to do anything for him, especially given the insanity of the island already.

It sucks that Walt ends up in a mental institution, yeah. And frankly, his story could have ended there, but I felt his post-leave story was good. He was a man wracked with guilt, unable to escape it, and eventually came to terms with wanting to atone for what he did, since he couldn't live with himself after his son refused to talk with him.

I dunno, I get people finding Michael annoying, but I felt he was more real than most people in the show and that's why I gravitated towards him. He just wanted to leave this hellscape with his kid. That's easy and relatable.

I've always felt like we should feel bad for her, like flashback scenes where her mom calls for help when she sees her.

The one terrible thing she did that always sticks with me is when she gets her one boyfriend killed because she refused to explain anything to him. Like these sort of things always seem manufactured for us to feel more bad for Kate like "Oh, look at this hard position she was put in with her life. She can't help this tragedy!"

At the very least, they never seem to call attention to her being a monster of a person which makes me buy into them wanting us to pity her more than anything.

lmao WWE new social media policy is that they can't do anything that advertises a third party or anything. Like you can't say "Just had a great dinner at this restaurant." Because WWE owns the wrestlers' likeness, they decided that they own their social media accounts too. Because imagine if you were to advertise you like a certain candy on your personal Twitter, but then WWE has a deal with another candy? Think of the conflict!

Anyway, fuck this company into the dirt.

What meaningful push has been made for police reform though? Like what are people rallying behind? We can't even get the fucking president to acknowledge anything other than "racist cops bad, but we'll make them shoot people in the leg and make them take diversity training." But there's not any outrage or annoyance over that, because ACAB is just a nothing thing and people are content with that kind of answer. It's easy.

There's nothing behind ACAB, which is the problem. It's a movement saying "This thing is bad" but doesn't suggest any progress at all, and I frankly think it's just not helpful and hasn't done anything despite there being giant protests and everything going on. Like what meaningful reform has been discussed that's been unavoidable, on a larger scale, since George Floyd and the subsequent cop killings?

I don't love the ACAB slogan either. Normally I don't mind incendiary statements, but only because I think the issue is far too nuanced to just pin it on cops. It's the entire fucking system that is abhorrent. It's a complete travesty and saying ACAB immediately gets linked to just saying 'fuck cops' rather than the discussion that all cops can't be good because the system is so pervasive they can't even do anything about bad cops, making them bad as well.

I agree in that I feel it detracts from the overall movement and it allows for politicians (on both sides of the spectrum) to allow that to take center stage so they can keep blathering on about "well if we give them better training it'll be a-okay!" or "we'll teach them to shoot in the leg so nobody gets too killed." Because them being able to hide behind saying things like that rather than the actual focus being the system just doesn't help matters. Like give Joe Biden questions about the freaking police contracts and ask him why it's impossible for fair investigations to be made or ask him why police officer records can be completely expunged in a stupidly short amount of time. Because until those kind of questions are the focus and not "boy howdy, just what're we going to do about these cops fatally shooting people or the systemic racism?" then we're not going to get any change.

Tons of unions use can use lobbying that affects their employers. In fact, many do so. They generally do so in hopes to get better returns for their union through alleviated circumstances against the company.
If the city/state are the employers, they lobby to DIRECTLY PUT THE ACTUAL EMPLOYERS IN THEIR JOBS, i.e., the politicians. You have to be purposefully not understanding this. You've made it very clear you don't want to understand the issues. And despite you saying you've been a part of many unions, you should be able to very easily understand how they're different, and you just don't want to so you can keep spouting right-wing nonsense and whataboutism that doesn't apply.

A local union. Tons of unions are ran by people in their business or field or union. Many are just elected from their own ranks. Those are the best kinds of leaders usually but not always.

https://boilermakerslocal154.com/leadership-1

International isn't much different.

https://boilermakers.org/about/leadership

I honestly think you know very little actually about unions and are just trying to find a distinction to try to justify being pro-union but anti-police unions. They operate same as many other unions.
Corrik, when I say "they are their employers" I'm not speaking literally. I'm dumbing it down for you because you actively refuse to understand the problem at hand here, likely by choice.

Their contracts, crafted entirely by the police union, give them full independence and freedom away from their "real employers" which you name as whatever city/state they belong to. But the city/state doesn't actually have any control over their management. In fact, they are actively blocked out of being able to do anything about the management of them because police union contracts all universally force them to not be able to choose any management in the police force.

Moreover than that--this clause isn't even needed. Because their employer in this case doesn't even make hiring and firing decisions on the police force. The police force does. The police unions don't actually give them protections from their employer, they give them protections for themselves. Ergo, they make these decisions to benefit themselves. Police forces investigate any misconduct themselves. It's like asking employees to investigate themselves and then decide whether or not they deserve to be employed still. What do you think their answer is going to be? "Nah, we deserve to be fired."

So when I say "They are their own employer" it's because they essentially are. They aren't protecting them from their employers, the city/state, so who are they protecting them from? The people.

Corrik7 posted...
It is the employers own fault though. They let these contracts happen in the first place and have very little leverage to change it barring major concessions which taxpayers would probably like even less.
Hey Corrik, how many unions can also use electioneering and lobbying to also directly effect the actual instatement of their employers too? And how many employers have to also strongly consider the support of that union to get hired in the first place?

Like I said, if it's so easy to make these changes and fix these contracts to start bringing accountability to cops, then why is it that ONLY Washington, D.C. is the only place where this has been able to be possible? It's because they rely on support of the police union and the police force entirely too much.

Negative. Read better. Their employers are the State, City, or Municipality. You just seem upset with the contracts they have negotiated. If you want to negotiate against the union, you are going to have to give up something they feel is equal in return. That's how negotiating works.

The difference is that police unions don't protect them from being held accountable at their job from their employer, because the police union IS their employer.

They protect them from accountability from the taxpayer, who they can murder with virtually no reason, with no punishment at all.

Like just understand that much and you understand why police unions are not like other unions and why they're a far bigger problem.

Every other union protects employees from accountability. The police can literally murder people with a flimsy enough of an excuse.

Do you see a problem that a police has a union in the first place that they can make it so people can just murder with impunity?

Like miss me with the conversations about "whataboutism" when there's a group of people who are literally able to do anything up to and including murder people and target minorities unfairly if they make up some bullshit excuse for why they did it.

Labor unions exist to protect employees from unfair treatment from their employers.

Police unions are literally run by the ones in charge. They are their own employers.

So who does a police union protect police from?

Us.

Police unions literally only exist for them to avoid accountability. They use their power as a union to lobby for the elected officials they want to make it so they have nobody to answer to, and that's the problem.

They have no employers they need to protect themselves from with a union, so they have zero actual need for a union. That's what makes them different.
@masterplum

Yes hello thank you Chris.

SEP has explained it pretty succinctly here, but I'll make a few other notes.

Police unions are corrupt and only protect cops from accountability at their jobs. They stack the rules in favor of the police so there is literally no accountability for their actions. They murder people and at worst they get two weeks paid vacation. The cop who kneeled on George Floyd's neck had some ridiculous number like 40 something complaints and he didn't get punished at all. They get thrown out because police unions let these terrible, dangerous, racist, reckless cops go wild with impunity.

The police union works with the police to make police contracts, and the police union is also part of the police so how is that just? They are not independent of the police administration here. And they actively spend tons of taxpayer money to actively lobby for whatever politicians will allow them to get away with whatever they want. Some ridiculous amount of money just so their favorite politician can be in office, so it pays for politicians to work with allowing police unions to do whatever they want.

So far only ONE state in the US has done anything about police unions, and it's just Washington, D.C. They make it so police unions can't include anything about punishments and investigations in their contracts, which levels the playing field. Literally no other state has even attempted to do anything like this, because they work hard to ensure there won't be a politician to enact that sort of thing.

I've said it in this topic repeatedly, but until you get rid of police unions, you can't stop systemic racism in the police force. They won't stop unfairly treating people of color until they have a reason to not do so. As it stands, they will never get punished for it, so they have no reason to follow any rules or change anything.

That's why when we have Biden going into office saying "we'll teach em to shoot em in the leg" or "we'll make em take more classes" it's worthless. He knows exactly what the problem is, and it isn't cops not being aware enough that what they're doing is bad, it's that they don't have any reason to hold back at all. They won't get punished over it. But he's not about to come out and say that and wreck the whole system.

It's a broken, abhorrent system that cannot and will not be changed without tearing the whole thing down and building it back up. It's not even close to how other unions operate. It's completely compromised.

Incorrect. My father and 8 other employees were fired for organizing a union at my first long term job. They filed a suit with the NLRB who represented them in the case. They were awarded options of their job back and back pay for over a year or a lump sum settlement each and not to go back.

They cannot fire you explicitly for trying to start a union.
This is correct. It's one of the very few non-discrimination protections.

However, if the company is smart, they'll come up with other bullshit reasons to claim they'll fire you over, and companies are usually smart about it.

Miz comedy is pretty bad. Or I may just be, like, tired of it at this point. JoMo is fun though.

Okay, I can imagine people liking dumb stuff with the 24/7 Title. Like, they have to be dumb. So dumb. Bottom tier sense of humor to like it, sure. But I cannot imagine anyone enjoying Rosenburg or whatever his name is winning the belt. Like how stupid. Just... why?

Promo package for Reigns vs. Owens was actually really good. Really great match too (except lol taking the golf cart spot). I cannot believe they didn't make Roman heel before. Like what the hell. He's actually legitimately good and has depth now. Can you imagine if they did this sooner how much better shape WWE might actually be in if they didn't try to throttle us with Face Roman this whole time? Absolutely unbelievable. Owens was outstanding here too. Great job from both guys.

Rumble Thoughts:
  • I guess I'll get it out of the way. I like Edge well enough but holy shit can you imagine that you make him the first entrant and then actually have him win? You had NO OTHER OPTIONS for this? With two belts? Come the fuck on guys.
  • Also, this Rumble did a lot of things that I completely hate about the Rumble. Attack on the outside leaving someone out for most of it? Yeah. Did it with Orton. Totally stupid. Totally pointless. Just why?
  • Sami Zayn's gimmick is weird, but he seems fun still.
  • Mustafa Ali finally gets to show character and he's good at it. Imagine if they didn't sleep on like 90% of the roster.
  • Jesus how was Carlito so jacked oh my god. Keep him around.
  • Ricochet is so wasted. He's so incredible and he gets eliminated by fucking Kane. lmao Dude how do they waste this guy?
  • Elias is just the most pointless thing. He's like, so boring now.
  • Damien Priest is pretty cool I guess.
  • Corbin still sucks.
  • Christian coming back was the highlight of this and they just... didn't make as big of a deal about it as they should have? But then that's par for the course for Christian. The moment between him and Edge was amazing though. He hasn't missed a step at all. I'm really happy for him.
  • Cesaro is still being slept on Jesus.
  • Who is Omos and why is this like so boring. Why is he allowed to eliminate people? What the fuck.
  • The finish still sucks. Who can possibly care about Edge winning except for the olds?
  • Overall, very boring and uninteresting Rumble with nothing going on. The Women's Rumble was a million times better.

Now to not watch WWE for another year or something.

UBI would cost an absurd amount of money, largely because a lot of that money would be going to people who dont need it. Targeted welfare is better.
You're right let's give all that money to corporations instead.
