His full position is 10k forgiveness, making community college free for everyone, and making 4 year colleges free for any family making under 125k. He appears to prefer to do it through legislation he signs into law rather than executive order.

All good things, but as you and others rightly point out, he doesn't really have a good reason for capping it at 10k other than going "nuh uh don't want to". I'd say his plan is "good" but not great and the democratic leadership is already behind the great plan. 50k would provide so much relief for so many families and 10k likely won't help as much.

Well I'm pretty sure he can't do the second two through executive order, right? I haven't seen any legal argument for that, at the very least.

I'm assuming he'd reassess the student loan forgiveness depending on what happens, but it is already planned to be in the COVID relief bill from how I understand it. Someone can feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on either of those points!

I know a lot of people will want to make a big deal over it being unconscionable to be pleased about and to mock Rush's death, but for me I clearly remember that Rush Limbaugh was not just some guy who had opinions that I didn't like, he was a man that was completely cruel to so many, who would constantly persecute and ridicule the most vulnerable people in our society, and who spread messages that have caused so much damage to so many in the country. It is perfectly reasonable to continue to vilify such a horrible person even after death.

Just for the record, should we never celebrate anyone's death in your world? When Osama Bin Laden was killed, is it wrong for America to cheer his demise? If so, where is the cutoff point for the level of pain inflicted on a large swath of people before it's in bad taste to celebrate someone no longer being able to inflict further damage?

Yeah, McCain perpetuated a lot of awful shit, but he at least went out doing good, and it was very clear that he had a conscience and a moral code, even if I personally would say those elements of him were wrong.

Instead of blaming the left for being "psychotic" in celebration, maybe you should look at the fact that a LARGE portion of the right as violent, virulent assholes who've spent the majority of my lifetime pushing a platform of hatred and violence that culminated in a narcissistic asshole taking the presidency and then inciting a riot against our fairly-elected government when he lost. We're not celebrating the deaths of moderate Republicans. The vast majority of us didn't cheer when Scalia died. But the right wing of this country has become violently hateful, inciting violent with their lies and rhetoric, and the figureheads of that (particularly people like Rupert Murdoch and Rush Limbaugh) are dangerous people who the world is better for their deaths.
