To be fair, this is an impossible hypothetical, because no one on the left who spewed that level of bile and hate would ever pick up enough steam to become a national media figure with any sort of influence over half the population. Meh, I was unaware of some of the more terrible things Rush said, but a lot of my conservative friends are sad about him dying. I think celebrating the death of anyone that some people like is unnecessarily mean. I dont think its a problem being internally happy, but I think its impolite to celebrate the same way you wouldnt brag about graduating from Harvard to your friends who dropped out of college

Celebrating on this forum would not necessarily reach a friend who you wouldn't want to hurt. Furthermore, the idea that you are impolite for expressing your personal victories online...kind of makes the entire idea of public discourse an issue. Is posting about my delicious dinner impolite to the hungry? where do you draw the line? should people follow only those who don't ever hurt their mental wellbeing? or is social media a toxic mistake all together?

100% disagree actually. Many people act way differently behind a keyboard than they would in real life unfortunately. If this were all voice interaction, moreso yeah but not entirely. Behind keys on a keyboard... You might have some of the biggest piece of shits over here virtue signalling to the ends of the earth for all you know. Or the "biggest trolls who are terrible beings for disagreeing with my opinions" who are actually the most polite, understanding people in real life.

Not saying everyone here is fake. But, I think everyone isn't necessarily who we think they are either or what they are pegged as. It's sorta like facebook. How many dysfunctional relationships act like they are Landon and Jamie having the perfect relationship under God's divine influence as they can? How many are talking about how great their lives are then ODing on heroin 48 hours later. Granted, people do this in real life also. But, it's a lot easier online. And even easier behind keys on a keyboard.

I am wary. Especially at the most ardent of people who want to tell you how good of a person they are over and over.

Why not? Obviously this is not exactly anonymous posting here since we have established relationships and histories together, even if we dont generally know real names. There are social consequences here that Ill admit require people to behave certain ways.

But when youre online interacting with people youve never met before and will never talk to again and there are no consequences to your behavior, thats when you reveal what youre truly like.

The funny thing is flying to cancun is really a proxy complaint against the badly managed power grid, because honestly, who among us if we were multi-millionaires wouldn't fly to cancun when a giant blizzard was coming? It seems kind of obvious. Snow birds are a thing.
