If you understand the general technique used to find words (using the words with the most frequently occuring letter and than isolating the position of them) it's just a matter of knowing words try.

For instance rates is a very good first guess word. A lot of words end in s (and it's one of the most common letters). R and t are among the most common consonants. And A and E are among the most common vowels.

For your next word try incorporating N, O, I, H, and/or L along with letters you confirmed the presence of before (if they were in the wrong position, try a new one for them). These are the most common letters, so by this point you should have some of the complete word established and it's just a matter of knowing potential words.

Russia literally cannot exapnd the conflict to other European countries, they're having more than enough trouble as it is.

They obviously won't immediately attack just like how there was a huge gap between annexing Crimea and then invading the rest of Ukraine. They also will start with Moldova since it has a large, pro-Russia separatist movement with Russian troops there already, and Moldova itself has a weak military and no formal allies. After that they will target Russian speaking minorities in the Baltics and try to create a situation similar to what Ukraine had before and work on continuing to get NATO dismantled and weakened through friendly Western politicians like Trump and the various Russia friendly parties throughout Europe.

The original webnovel and webtoon are Korean. The anime is actually made by a Japanese company with Japanese director and key staff. Though basically every modern Japanese animation company has a lot of Koreans working for them (and Korean directors now too like in Jujutsu Kaisen).

Persona 1 is alright if you like DRPGs (which I do). Persona 2 is great though.

Not really. If you want some manga that covers that stuff I recommend Showa, a History of Japan and Barefoot Gen. Though historical revisionist nationalists hate them for precisely those reasons.

Cyberpunk on Netflix by Trigger is kind of a 1980s anime (since the original setting is from a 1980s cyberpunk RPG).

Animation has become worse, not better.

That goes for the art of film in general. The silent era.... thousands and thousands of extras, ENOURMOUS sets that still go unrivaled, and insane stunts...... There's been some great films after the 1920s, but to be honest none go as far as they did in that early era.

Now, these early anime studios you're talking about (well, earlier) , and these old film studios I'm talking about..... the working conditions were much harder. Those anime studios were sweatshops..... no ac, endless hours hunched over, years of back problems and arthritis...... The old films.... someone gets seriously hurt or mamed in a stunt, or gets trampled by the crowd in one of the old epics from the 1910s...... you didnt get an insurance policy that would cover you to not work for a year.

But the art.... the art was much better. It seems there is something to say about creation under pressure.

We won't get either of these again, so it's best to cherish the ones we have. The ones people broke their backs and died for.

I mean we got 100% hand drawn Red Line in 2009. 7 years, 100,000 cells. Ghibli just put out a hand drawn film, and Trigger continues to put out amazing hand drawn stuff (though with CG used as well).

Grave of the Fireflies was released as a double feature with My Neighbor Totoro. You're supposed to watch that after and feel better.

But yeah Akira is the GOAT.

In Japan they socially ostracize you and send you to jail. Drug usage is extremely low, but the penalties are extremely harsh and not what you would consider "help".

Sometime in the early 90s. There was a short lived dub of the first season of Dragon Ball by Harmony Gold (the same shit company that turned Macross into Robotech). Later I wanted to see more and also play Dragon Quest V (not released in the US), so I started learning Japanese. Toriyama literally changed my life since I now live and work in Japan and never would have learned Japanese without Dragon Ball and Dragon Quest.

Watching NHK News tonight they showed the sign language news announcement of his death and I found out the Japanese sign language sign for Dragon Ball is doing a Kamehameha motion.

India is long-time geopolitical allies with Russia and they can travel there easily. China is India's 2nd largest geopolitical enemy after Pakistan (who is also allies with China) and they cannot travel there easily. Indians have a very positive opinion of Russia and Russians and a very negative opinion of China and Chinese. Also despite the current narrative being pushed by America, India is no friend of liberal democracy and more than happy to do stuff like assassinate Canadian citizens. Modi used to be sanctioned by the US for overseeing the mass killings of thousands of Muslims. Now that he's president they pretend it never happened and focus on China's treatment of Muslims. It's amazing how India is just the new China for America. Ignore all the bad and pretend they're your friends so you can exploit them for cheap labor.

It was okay, then it was followed up by a bad sequel that then got followed up by the absolute worst film in the franchise.

You can also watch Obama say marriage is between one man and one woman on a bunch of clips online, because his opinions matched the demographics of the voting public. Once the majority of America supported gay marriage, so did he.

One of the most legendary artists of modern times. One of the few anime artists who actually made unique looking designs. You can tell his characters from miles away.

It says a lot that both Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy largely used the D&D monsters yet DQ has incredibly unique and iconic designs (the slime is the obvious standout) while Final Fantasy had stuff that looked a lot like the D&D monster manual (to the point where Beholder got replaced by Evil Eye to avoid a lawsuit).

Dragon Ball and Dragon Quest are literally why I learned Japanese. I wanted to play Dragon Quest V (not released in the US at the time) and watch Dragon Ball (the American dub didn't continue past the middle of the Freeza Saga until I was in high school).

How many kanji and how much vocab would you say you'd need to play the average JRPG? Understandably there'd be quite a few kanji outside the standard 2000, but like, how many to get the gist of most sentences?

Depends on the game. Dragon Quest games all use only kana or have furigana on all the kanji. Whereas Shin Megami Tensei is going to be in the 3000 range (you're going to see stuff like , , , , , , etc.). There are also a lot of kanji outside the standard list that everyone uses on things like Twitter and LINE, and therefore you should just know , , , , , , , , etc.

The lists you study also have some useless stuff on there, but it's a political list made by the government, not a frequency list. So you're stuck with junk like and .

TBH the art will probably eventually die off and nobody knows how to write the damn things or even recall the kanji unless it's a major one.

I don't recommend spending time to learn how to write kanji because there are better uses of your limited learning time, but this is incorrect. Most people know how to write 1000-2000 kanji no problem. I work in academia and I would say most people are in the 2000-3000 range. Again I don't recommend wasting your time learning writing, but most Japanese know how to write the kanji you use day to day. And you will be filling out forms by hand if you live in Japan and if you have to look up the kanji every time it will get annoying.

JLPT isnt special or rare Japanese in any way. Its just ordinary Japanese. I see the grammar points that pop up on N1 all the time in actual native material. And the reading passages are all actual editorials and opinion pieces from Japanese publications. The only thing thats kinda unnatural on it is probably the listening portion.

It has been a while since me and my wife took N1, but we both recall a ton of stuff being on there that we never use in real life and we live and work in Japan in a Japanese language speaking environment (we don't use English at work).

Also I am pretty sure there is a video of Yuta asking some JLPT1 questions to random people on the street in Tokyo and they got a bunch wrong.

I remember some article where a priest said a practioner told him that woke stuff doesn't fly anymore referring specifically to that sermon. It's pretty hilarious how the religion is just an excuse for their politics.

I remember seeing that cell phone on Saved by the Bell and wondering if it was real. So obviously we didn't have them at school.

I would be curious why. I think Fallout 2 is the best of the classic ones and New Vegas is the best of the modern ones.

Well, alright, I won't say that stuff doesn't matter to the book readers looking forward to seeing it on the screen, I'll just say I felt like they explained what was necessary for what occurred. Maybe Part 3 will be mostly geopolitical lore after Paul does what he's about to do.

Yeah I think the new movie explained the minimum needed to experience the movie as was intended. It wasn't realistic to actually cover all of them book and so it wasn't attempted. Lynch tried to cover a lot more of the book and it fell apart quickly and then got a really bad ending. That said, despite being a shorter film, it does cover more of the politics and setting.

A lot. I mean even the old movie left a lot out, but compared to the new ones it explained much more.

I have to say I am really surprised someone would accuse Part 1 of explaining space geopolitics. The opening of the Lynch movie explains more about the politics and setting than both of the new parts combined. I think the new movies are very streamlined and focused on the story of the characters, not politics or setting.

I've only read the first few chapters, and while I enjoyed what I read, besides the lead wanting revenge, it feels different enough from TCoMC that I wonder how it was influenced by it.

I think he brought it up because Gankutsuou was going to be an adaptation of that, but they copyright holder wouldn't allow it, so it went to Count of Monte Cristo instead.
