they barely had them in highschool. Those that did, and used them in class, had them taken by the teacher and they were returned at EOD. This was normal.

nowadays i cannot see that flying, especially because highschoolers in rich neighbourhoods have $1,200 luxury smartphones and not $89.00 flipphones.

Here have a look at this:

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/forum/9/9193de8a.jpg

That is the first commercially available mobile phone. It is called the DynaTAC 8000X and it was released in 1983 in the US for $3,995 which in todays money is the equivalent to $11,253!

So like I said in my previous post being in school from 1979 - 1990 it was impossible for anyone to have a mobile phone as A. they hadn't been invented yet B. The price and C. Britain had not got a mobile network set up back then.

The only mobile phones available at the time I was knee-high to a grasshopper, was the old Motorola "briefcase" phone. No kid was lugging around one of those things, especially since it's battery time was only two hours.

No. It's a weird fucked up situation involving time travel for no purpose whatsoever and this dude doesn't do anything he's just there because David Lynch was tripping the whole time he was doing anything with this movie

Cell phones did not really exist in the 1980s, they were the big brick sized and required bags for the batteries back then.

Fanciest thing I ever saw was in the middle school range. Went on a trip to Great America with a youth group. The person driving us had a car phone (think provided through his work). It blew our minds that a phone call could be made while inside of a car.

I don't believe so. It was a bit before they were in common use. By middle school there might have been a few kids with them.

Definitely by high school most kids had phones. Mostly flip but a few had iPhones by the time we graduated.

No one had cell phones when I was in grade school. No one.

A few rich people might have had those early car phones, but not even those "brick" cell phones were around yet. Yeah, they existed in the 70s, but the first time I saw a "brick" was when I was in college in '85. I remember that only because it was around the same time as when Back to the Future came out and I thought "Wow, now that's futuristic!"

When I was in grade school (late 80s), cell phones were called "car phones" and most people saw them as something only pretentious yuppies were interested in.

I graduated in 2010, kids (including myself) were only just starting to have cell phones when I was in about middle school and by high school most had one. At first it was just an "in case you need to reach your parents" thing being played off as a popular kid status symbol. But hardly anyone I knew had a smart phone until 2009 or 2010.
