As someone who has an incredibly middling opinion of Fallout 4, but otherwise really likes the series, it could lead to an interesting conversation about what we look for in a video game, provided we could be mature about it.

I would be curious why. I think Fallout 2 is the best of the classic ones and New Vegas is the best of the modern ones.

Fine with me; I also liked the game and didn't care much for its predecessors.

Fallout 3 brought me back into gaming. I didn't appreciate New Vegas until I played Fallout 4.

Fallout 4 ruined my favorite series for me. Permanently, I could never look forward to another Bethesda release the same after that ultimately being the let down it was in almost every possible way. Just like all of their games have been since.

baffles me still that people still hold 3 in such high regard yet hate on 4

Can't say I care. I had fun with Fallout 4 too even if it isn't my favorite one.

My fave is fallout 2 partly because you can play the entire game with 1 hand. Ik it not efficient tho but IDC!!!!!!! Quit batching at me about it

There are things I care a lot more about than her opinions on the video games she plays. I hate most video games nowadays anyway.

I don't think it's a particularly offensive opinion. Fallout 4's companions are likeable. The gunplay is fun, and the settlement building is good. I can understand why it would be someone's favourite.

Fallout 4 is the only one I played. Didn't play much of it, but I enjoyed the couple hours I did play.

i find obsidian dialogue to be overwrought, boring, and rarely does it ever cater to my personal RP tastes
i love roleplaying and being immersed in a game/setting, but i just can't gel with dialogue systems that routinely force me to pick an option my character wouldn't say anymore, and having to sit through screen after screen of it to get the information FO4/Skyrim does in a fraction of the time spent, is just exhausting to me
the last game i thought had genuinely good dialogue was dragon age origins, and that's less because it was good RP and more because the non-player characters (outside of like shale, and most of oghren's dialogue) at least approached a reasonable facsimile of a real human being (adhering to those character backgrounds)
it's why despite playing exclusively RPGs for 3/4ths of my life, i now mostly play open-ended survival RPGs where I can create my own story through immersive experience. and tbh, FO4/Skyrim scratch that itch a helluva lot better than MW/oblivion/FO3/NV do. the dialogue in obsidian games is literally immersion breaking to me lol

Fallout 4 is a good game. The DLC is even sweeter.

If she'd said 3 is the best, I'd get up and leave. 4 I can at least work with.

That is a magical being that did not exist in the world when I was a teenager growing up. You young dudes complain a lot about the young ladies these days, but there are girls who read fucking manga, play video games, and follow sports now. You have something to talk about that you can relate to.

It's usually people screwing around with absurdly over the top responses.

That said, FO4 is dogshit and having a gamer gf is overrated anyway. I don't need an SO to share all my hobbies-- especially since I pretty much only play SP games.

I agree. Sorta. My wife plays games quite a bit (Unicorn Overlord at the moment). But we are playing games separately and it doesn't really matter to me that she likes games. What does matter is having a SO who is respectful and understanding of spending a certain amount of time gaming. They don't need to be a gamer to have that respect, but being a gamer makes it more likely.
