Not a bad thing in itself, it just means that every 2D Zelda game after it greatly improved upon it. They just did a lot cooler stuff.

Oracle of Seasons > Oracle of Ages > Link's Awakening > Minish Cap > A Link to the Past

I guess I'll try ALBW after finishing this playthough of ALTTP (already in ice palace)

It kinda does. The movement feels floaty, the menu feels "aged", dugeon map screen is not very navigable, and the dungeon design itself feels very unstructured with rather bland puzzles (I forgive bc its the first time Nintendo did dungeons in a now recognizable form)

Oracle of Seasons/Ages > most of the 3D Zeldas > Minish Cap > Link to the Past > Links Awakening

There's a reason ALttP randomizers are so popular, and MUCH more popular than any other 2D Zelda randomizer. The game is so solidly built that the simple act of a randomizer makes it feel fresh and fun, no matter how many times you've beaten it.

Probably because alttp is the 2nd most popular/well liked/best selling 2D Zelda (edited, somehow missed links awakening dwarfing it lmao. I think that includes the remake though?)

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/forum/f/f9fd54d3.jpg

It doesn't really speak to the quality of the games, or how they're built inherently. The oracle games have very well designed randomizers, with one (seasons) getting multiworld support

I think it does, because, when it comes to randomizers, they're all equally obtainable, yet a vast majority of people choose ALttP, when they could choose any of them just as easily. I feel like that says SOMETHING, atleast. Whether that's "People enjoy playing ALttP," or "People enjoy watching ALttP," whatever... It seems people favor ALttP, for one reason or another, that has nothing to do with sales or any other verifiable metric that specifically ISN'T quality.

I mean I'd just chalk it up to LttP being the most popular, so it's what people know, so it's what people want to randomize/develop randomizers for. There's also a huge overlap between randomizer communities and speedrunning communities, and LttP is a popular speed game.

It's the same deal with Super Metroid. Super and Prime sit at the top of the Metroid totem pole in terms of popularity, and they also have the most extensive randomizer communities. But I wouldn't use that as evidence to say that Super and Prime are technically superior to Dread and Prime 2.

The games people played the most will always get the most attention. It's not any deeper than that

Nobody is arguing they're literally "technically superior," you appear to be the one who brought that argument up. People are just refuting TC, who is trying to argue ALttP "aged poorly," for example.

Maybe I just misunderstood this then? To me that's saying there's an inherent higher quality to LttP, which draws more people to want to randomize it. Like the other 2D Zelda games aren't built as well, which just...isnt inherently true. Rather than the fact that LttP just sold more, so more people played it

I'm not saying there's an inherent higher quality, just that LttP obviously has a consistent "good" quality, and that's why so many people love it, even countless years later. I was trying to refute TC, who is attempting to say LttP "aged poorly." I wasn't trying to insult other 2D Zeldas. I apologize if that was unclear. I may have worded it wrong, that's on me.

It's fun for a first playthrough, but replays show the seams. There's 3 or 4 parts of the game where the pace just hits a brick wall. LoZ and LA don't have that problem, IMO. Especially towards the start, both games just put you in the action and keep on giving.

I like the Capcom games, but I'd put them even-ish with LttP. Same issue, bumps in pacing. They have a different feel, so it's reasonable to put them on the top or bottom depending on preference.

There's a reason LttP mods that cut out all the story are so popular >_>

I prefer the "floatier" feeling/movement. The other 2D Zeldas definitely have a weightier feel I guess you could say, and I'm not as fond of it. The menu sucks for all 2D Zeldas in my opinion. The randomizer gives you item quick swap and also makes the menu open and close faster, which helps a ton. I think the dungeon map screen is fine.

I'll give you the dungeons though, but the thing is they're still pretty good. It's just that they obviously got way better and more creative later on in the series.

LttP > Oracle of Ages > Seasons > Link's Awakening > ALBW > Minish Cap for me.

???? A Link to the Past is a fun game...

Aging badly isn't what you think it is. I feel like you don't know what you're saying O.o Its like using a word you just learned and trying to fit it into your every day life.

The controls are smooth and the graphics are solid. The puzzles are still fun and complex and there's a huge world to explore with lots of secrets.

Games that aged badly would be Tomb Raider or the original Resident Evil. Great games for its time but hard to play now.
