"I was being rhetorical, because I was trying to make the point that equalizing a colonoscopy to this particular procedure was apples and oranges," he said. "So I was asking a rhetorical question that was designed to make her say that they weren't the same thing, and she did so. It was the response I wanted."

Let's assume that this was the intention, why not just say that instead of "fascinating"? Seems weird to make it seem like you're just an idiot if your real intention was this.

I went over to RE and checked and I am seeing basically universal hate for how the characters look. The only apologia I see is that this will be used by people as an example of desexualization of games being bad. Some seem to be concerned about the shittiness of these characters being weaponized against desexualization in general, but I haven't seen anyone actually say they like the update.

ResetEra is the actual strawman that everyone who says they're trying to remove attractive women from games is referring to. When you hear people are outraged about Stellar Blade or Tifa having a swimming suit they're talking about ResetEra.

Alright, Im honestly surprised. Vegetarian diets arent very common outside of the USA and parts of India* from my understanding. I figured there wouldnt be any indicators.

*From my understanding, while a number of Hindu Indian people identify as vegetarian the number who are is lower. Still considering that, I would expect to be able to easily find vegetarian options in many parts of India.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vegetarianism_by_country

You are right about India having a lot and wrong about the US.

Also you can go to CoCoIchi or Mos Burger basically anywhere in Japan and get vegetarian curry or burger. Also no matter how middle of nowhere I go in Japan there is always at least one Indian restaurant, so I can't imagine not actually being able to find vegetarian food. Kyoto has way more than normal though, it has some Buddhist restaurants similar to what you see in Taiwan.

Edit: That source says 9% of Japan is vegetarian, but my search in Japanese for percent total vegetarians and vegan gets either 6 or 7%, so I think that one is overestimating it. But this is saying US is 5% vegetarian or vegan, so Japan is still a higher percent.

Dragon Slayer is 1984. Early JRPGs were PC and tended to be action oriented. But the popularity of Wizardry and to a lesser extent Ultima in Japan made the style that most Westerners call JRPGs popular. But really the Ys series and other action stuff by Nihon Falcom is the most traditional example of a JRPG.

From always felt Western tbh.

Like, I played Armored Core 2, and aside from being about big robots (which is obviously a very Japanese thing) I could have sworn it was made by a Western company. Mostly because the movement sucks, but still.

Japanese RPGs were heavily influenced by Wizardry and to a lesser extent Ultima. So they were always born from Western games. Ironically the Japanese style of RPG in the 80s were action RPGs like Dragon Slayer. You can even find old reviews in Western PC magazines talking about how Japanese RPGs are more arcadey and action oriented.

That's because most people in the West are unaware of the Japanese influences, including From's own King's Field and Shadow Tower games. They mistakingly think it was influenced by some Western game even though it doesn't play like any. I honestly hate the way JRPG is used these days. If it doesn't mean RPG made in Japan then come up with a new label.

And if they did, they wouldn't get such a reaction like negative comments do.

It's illegal, so if you find a place like that you could sue them. I have never seen one and have lived here for 7 years.

I think people misunderstand what "liberal indoctrination" or whatever you call it is in colleges. I worked for the University of Washington as an adjunct professor. It's an anti-labor, profit seeking shit hole that only cares about paying teaching staff as little as possible, skimming as much as possible off of grants, and charging students as much as possible in tuition. The reason you see so many foreign students will be coded with liberal buzzwords like diversity, but the reality is it's wealthy people from other countries that can afford the higher tuition rates they get to charge foreign students. Meanwhile adjuncts receive pay less than a single undergraduate's tuition to teach a class to hundreds only to have their yearly contract disappear without warning once it's time to cycle in the fresh PhD. Meanwhile you are actively told not to grade students harshly and ignore cheeting because the goal is to simply cycle as many students through as possible. Teacher evaluations don't matter either, it's all performative.

So what does that have to do with this topic? All this resistance to genocide coursework is just marketing. They think her speech would damage their revenue stream, so they are cancelling it. That's the reality of academia at these places. The right goes on and on about woke whatever and it just distracts people from the rampant profit seeking going on.

I think a lot of the nostalgia for boomer shooters is less about how they look and more about how they play. The gameplay is quite different than modern FPS games. The shitty 3D graphics era of games hasn't been inducing much nostalgia in general. Some people are nostalgic for classic survival horror, but again that's for how they play (not an action game and not an all you can do is run spoopy jump scare simulator).

Given their tendency to work themselves into misery I would think it's the opposite (companies don't invest in employees who aren't willing to chain themselves to their desks).

Though I do think they're starting to turn a corner in concepts like work-life balance.

Japanese people work less hours on average than Americans. There are some really bad companies, called black companies that exist, but Westerners seem to think that's the norm. It isn't. Next you will tell me everyone in Japan is killing themselves. Again US has a higher suicide rate. Now you will say the birth rate is super low, but it's the highest in East Asia and comparable to Spain and Italy.

Stereotypes and real life are not actually the same.

What would be the typical consequence of something like this? Just shunned by colleagues and dressed down by bosses constantly?

If you have a bad employee you usually shun them, give them demeaning tasks, etc. until they leave of their own volition. Firing someone is a pretty bad move for companies for a variety of reasons. You have to do something major to get fired (like at my work of you were drunk driving you would get fired instantly, probably for other jailable offenses as well). But honestly the stuff you're describing sounds pretty minor. My wife does maybe two hours of actual work in an 8 hour day. My job doesn't have set hours or a boss (researcher), so I can't comment from my own experience, but Japan is well known for being reluctant to fire employees (and foreign companies often hate how difficult it is to fire employees here). Unions are very strong, so if you aren't a temporary worker, your contract will usually make it pretty damn hard to get fired.

It definitely fits in with 3 and 4 in terms of tone. But everyone needs to be real with themselves about Fallout. There is absolutely no consistent tone or serious lore maintenance. This stuff is getting ridiculous. 1 was somewhat serious and then 2 was extremely whacky (and it's also a really good game). Literally nothing about the setting actually makes sense if you think about it and instead of just enjoying games or the show people are freaking out over minor lore shit. And you want to talk about shitting on the lore? Ever play Brotherhood of Steel? Shit games predate Bethesda and were much shittier. People really need to stop taking a series never meant to be taken this seriously (okay maybe 1, but even then it isn't that serious), so seriously.
