So at my night job I work at a gas station, and we lock the doors at around seven and do other business through a window. This girl comes up and has some nice looking tattoos but I can't see them too well, so after I clear out my line I go over to her car to ask her if it would be cool if I checked out her body art. When she popped out she was clearly rolling a joint and it was obvious it wasn't the first of the night (I smoke occasionally and it's legal here, though not while driving of course). She was more than happy to show off and talk about her ink, as well as ask about mine (I only have one) and while doing so she told me where she works. Even though it's not somewhere I would really go to, people here know it as one of the more highly regarded gentlemen's clubs in the city. Then she asked me for my number. I have never had a girl ask for my number, let alone a, ahem, professional undresser. I didn't give it to her, but not in a total rejection sort of way. I kinda thought "this girl is probably trouble," and I don't really need trouble in my life. But almost all of my friends and coworkers are now in shock that I didn't go for it. Did I make a mistake? And more so, if I did, should I go there to meet up with her since she was very pointed about telling me where she works?

I dunno, the fact that she was driving while obviously high would've been an instant no from me for anything long-term. Could've led to a fun one night stand maybe, but if that was what you were looking for I don't think you would've hesitated in the moment. I think you made the right decision.

I appreciate being backed up. Even my one female coworker tonight was kinda making me feel like I was crazy. She was actually the one bringing it up to other people at work.

Honestly, I was extremely flattered that a woman asked me for my number. I was all grins about it. But, I just felt so unsure about it with her.

Snake - Still an option on the table, but is it really the right one? Wouldn't it be weird to go there after not giving her my number?

MZero - I didn't actually say no, I just didn't give the digits. I kinda just changed the subject. And if I actually trusted my instincts, I really wouldn't be asking people's opinions.

I opened this topic thinking it was going to be about an interview you had with someone insisting on a remote work reasonable accommodation...

Anyway, go with your gut. Your gut said "no" so just leave it be for now. Odds are, if the girl was really interested in you, that she'll find her way back to that gas station at some point in the next month or two.

Yeah I think you were in the right. There's nothing wrong with having a nice interaction with a stranger and just leaving it at that.

If the number one priority in your life is getting laid then you missed an easy layup, sure. But her thing with the number might have been more of a thank you to you for the nice conversation. Either way, I think going to her workplace after turning her down is not a cool move unless you are suddenly smitten in retrospect and decided that you absolutely need her in your life.

And I stopped thinking about them about as soon as they ended... I dunno why I'm still hung up on this girl, the red flags say I don't need her and shouldn't want her in my life, but she sure has made me feel like I'm a high school kid again...

Maybe she likes you. Maybe she wants a new tipper at her club.

Trust your instincts. Don't let other people living vicariously through your near-encounter fantasies throw off your personal radar. I'm inclined to agree with the thought that she might be trouble, but like...don't listen to me, listen to you.

Exactly this. I wouldn't necessarily judge her for being a "professional undresser." I WOULD judge her for putting herself and others in potentially mortal danger because she can't wait until she gets somewhere safe to light up. This girl is, in fact, trouble.

Your instincts were good here.

I wouldn't say she is trouble. She sounds like an idiot though.

Like, I get high all the time, I love smoking either before bed to zonk out, or just having a fun session with friends, playing video games ect, but I would never drive high.

I know people like to pretend that smoking marijuana is just like drinking alcohol but this whole "omg, driving while high, what an awful person" mentality is pretty ridiculous.

Other than that, just cause she has your number doesn't mean you have to answer later. Missed opportunity.

I mean I agree. I'm a lot more lucid and aware blazed out of my mind compared to being drunk, it's also one of the reasons I much prefer smoking over drinking, but you are still impaired driving a 2,000 pound machine, and most people don't pay attention driving in the first place.

If you felt uncomfortable then there's no reason to need to justify it. I don't know anything about your coworkers, but in general mankind has cultivated a mindset of "you have to be bold if you want to get anywhere in life" but there's a time and a place for that. There's a difference between being bold and being reckless.

If you end up regretting it, then just look at it as a learning experience that you weren't prepared for at the time. But don't let anyone shame you for not taking a risk you didn't feel comfortable with.

Listen to your gut if something seems off.

She probably told you where she worked to filter out people who aren't down with that sort of thing. Or because she hoped you'd go see her strip.

Going to see her after turning down her number would be a little "weird" but not bad weird. She'd probably be pleasantly surprised as long as you were friendly towards her. You can just tell her you reconsidered, I think she'd be happy. It's pretty normal to turn down a number you receive at work.

But you got a weird vibe from her so you should probably listen to it.

It's totally ok to have gone for it to not have gone for it. But not exchanging numbers is dumb imo. Nothing to lose with that. Maybe she did want to hang out with you normally. It would be really obvious if she was just looking for a new customer, in which case you can ignore/block. Worth a shot though since you don't get those chances often.

Going to her strip club will literally make you a customer though, so that's not really an option. Best you can hope for is her coming back to your store.

I think we could all benefit from more one-off conversations with strangers that never lead to anything more than that. Especially for introverts like me, it's a good reminder that people can be cool sometimes and that's all there is to it.

I remember I went to Best Buy once as a teenager and my cashier was a really cute girl with some coloring in her hair, which I've always had a bit of a thing for. She complimented a necklace I was wearing, I complimented her hair, we chatted a bit about whatever I was buying, and then I left. Never saw her again. For a while I kicked myself for not just casually giving her my number, but then I came to regard it as just a nice one-off interaction that made me smile sometimes to think about. Like others have said, that's not a bad thing to have.

And that's without considering that your instincts were warning you against this girl, which is always good to think about for sure.
