You know. The kind where you can't remember the main character or the main villain. The kind you're pretty sure you enjoyed, maybe, at least a little, or maybe not. The kind you sometimes forget you even own, much less have played through.

This topic inspired by randomly remembering Death's Door, though I don't think that's my actual answer. My actual answer is maybe NightSky, Inexistence Rebirth, or any number of the old Valis games that I barely remember as a series, let alone individually. For more mainstream games I can't recall any real details about Kirby Squeak Squad and Pokemon X/Y except that they exist.

How dare you consider Death's Door forgettable

Anyway for me it's probably Rayman 3
Beat it 3 times, don't remember anything about it and every new time I play it feels new (meanwhile I remember every stage in Rayman 2)
Story driven game is Trace Memory

first thought was Outriders, but I sort of remember it it was just a really nothing game.

then I figured its probably like a random indie game from years ago, and the game I came up with was so forgettable that I literally forgot its name and had to google metroidvania furry to find it

dust: an Elysian tale

I think I liked it well enough, but I couldnt tell you anything about it anymore other than its a metroidvania with a sort of Sonic OC style main character

it was a relatively early indie metroidvania, so it was a neat thing at the time, but now we live in a world filled with them. It just doesnt stand out in my mind anymore.

There are a lot of ways to answer this question:

  1. The obvious: I forget.
  2. "Real" games, in recent memory: I finished a game earlier this year that was recommended in cheap sales called Axe Girl. It's memorable in terms of its ridiculous setting -- you play a lumberjack girl who fights a ton of random enemies with your axes and has some very amateur art and story design. It is decidedly unmemorable in terms of everything else. It's priced accordingly.
  3. Little nothing internet games: Like, all of them. Except for You Have to Burn the Rope, because of it's ending song.
  4. In the annals of the past: I have to dig deep to think of a game that is so unremarkable that nobody would think anything of it, but that I can still actually recall for some reason. I'm thinking of some shareware game I played -- I thought it was by Apogee, but apparently not -- where you have some dude in a jetpack who does...honestly I don't even remember what, but I had to clear some stage and there were some weapon pick-ups. The game is not "Jetpack," though I wouldn't be surprised if it had Jetpack in the title. One of the later-era games, so maybe around '96?
There are, honestly, probably FAR better answers than this. But heck if I know what they were.

i do keep a game's beaten list that i try to keep updated and tried to scour my memory when i made it to include everything

looking at that, something that ranks pretty mid and that i don't remember much about is...

Shadow Complex?

i mean conceptually its unique as a metroidvania/western action shooter hybrid which i do remember its style but i don't remember any of the areas, any of the upgrades or weapons, or what ways they used the gimmick. or how the story went.

I scanned through every game I've played, and the one that popped out was some Xbox 360 era game called "Chime". I could not remember what the game was based on the name, so I looked up screenshots of it, and I was like "oh yeah, I think I liked this game kinda...?", but looking at the screenshots, I don't even remember how the game is played specifically...it's a puzzle game of some kind. But I'm pretty sure I liked it!!? But I guess that means it's a solid answer for this topic.

quest 64 probably

I remember Quest 64 if only for how bland and disappointing it was for anyone waiting for any kind of RPG to come to the N64. That and it made absolutely no sense to develop all four elements evenly, so I started over and went all-in on one element and suddenly the game got much easier.

Oh, here are a couple other contenders:

Ninety-Nine Nights - Very early 360 title. It was a little like a Dynasty Warriors game, except it tried to have an epic story and it was bad. Can't believe this somehow got a sequel years later.

Kingdom Under Fire: Circle of Doom - A hack and slash that was only memorable when it was being frustrating and obtuse. My friends bought it, so I grabbed it to play with them, and then they bailed on it and I saw it through to the end. For some reason.

Lords of Everquest - I played EQ back in the day, and for a very brief while, they tried to spin off the franchise into a full IP. Problem was, Everquest didn't really have rich worldbuilding and lore, or if it did, players like me with 300 days /played didn't know what it was. So when they got a studio to make an RTS based very loosely on EQ, and the gameplay was...well, it was somewhere between WC2 and WC3, and it wasn't bad, but it wasn't anything exceptional. At least Champions of Norrath was decent. Ish.

Chase: Cold Case Investigations - Distant Memories
Technically this fits. I did play it and don't remember much of anything besides it being a detective game. But it's so short, I kinda think it shouldn't qualify.

I don't remember much of Pier Solar and the Great Architects, though I do remember the main character's name, and a few other things here and there.

I have a really solid memory when it comes to games I've played. Even stuff I played growing up that wasn't that memorable, I can always piece together at least gameplay aspects and different levels and stuff. As an example, State of Emergency was a pretty bad game I'm pretty sure I beat over the course of a week and never touched again back when I was 13, but I still remember running around a mall picking up melee and ranged weapons and getting points for destroying stuff.

.... But then there's a batch of top-down RPGs I played on PS2 that I have absolutely ZERO recollection of whatsoever: a few Champions games and a few Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance games. No fucking clue what differences there were in any of them, or what their stories were about.

Don't remember a single gym leader or Elite 4 member. Vaguely remember one or two towns. Don't remember anything about the evil team's plot or what they did. Only remember the new Pokemon that I actually used on my team, and not even all of them.

The only thing I remember clearly is all of your stupid friends constantly getting in the way but never actually doing anything, and damned if I can remember any of their names.
