Awfully nice that rich guy is letting him loot his mansion. And if he has a problem with it, consider it payment for services rendered.

It sounds less like you want to do Chaotic and more about Azata. Chaotic just means that you are the opposite of lawful: you do things that upend society/go against societal norms. Azata, on the flip side, is all about getting jiggy with the fey, and that leads to rather bizarre scenarios. And the best companion, but that's nothing to do with what you're talking about.

I actually am a PF 1e player/GM so I know all about the system that the game is run on. I've been temped by WotR, but when I realize that I'd have to go without my beloved 3rd party stuff like Path of War and the entire Spheres system and that deflates my willingness to play that game very quickly. Oh, and I love homebrewing stuff too much to give that up either.

Ivynn posted...

Yeah, that's one of the downsides of the system using Wealth by Level and magic items as part of the expected thing to build your stats. You have to buy stuff like Rings of Protection +X to keep up with the expected math of the TTRPG game.

Generally Auto is good enough unless you plan on min-maxing. Even then it's not like there is an easy "this is the way to go" when it comes to companions. For instance, Woljif makes an excellent Arcane Trickster (Mage Armor is huge in making him not just pop later on, so the dip in that direction is not wasted) but it's not like that's the only way that you can go about things. For instance, you can just lean into his damage potential and never have him leave Rogue or move him over to vivisectionist for alchemy. Heck, I've seen some people go the route of giving him a pet/horse for the sake of bringing "bulk" to the party. Really it's a case that as long as you aren't overtly trying to screw over your party you are generally going to be fine on that front.

The most optimal party makes heavy use of pets since pets are broken in this game. Missing is part of the expertime. of the early game, as you get better gear and improve your stats and get better buffs, buffing is extremely important in this game, you'll be conquering demons in no time.

On the lower difficulties I still level my dudes up myself but you don't relly have to super min/max. Oh higher difficulties you absolutely have to min/max. To the point of having levels in up to 3 or 4 classes to maximize ac an damage output. The only people I really change their class are Lann, Nenio, and Woljif.

By level 7 Lann has gotten the best parts of zen archer and should moved into fighter, base or mutagen. Mostly he needs the fighter feats to buff his attacks and damage.

Nenio should become a Loremaster, because she gains more skill points and loses nothing of value out of it.

As noted above Woljif benefits from arcane trickster.

Camellia makes an excellent tank/off tank/debuffer, it might not be apparent at first glance. As a squishy you might want multiple characters that can take the heat.

Focusing on buffs is gonna be a change of pace for me because I almost always prioritize damage dealing and leave the buffing to my companions. But as you all told me, this isn't that kind of game so I will start focusing on buff abilities. Besides, the demons so far are resistant to fire spells and fire magic is my fav. Can't enjoy that then might as well be a buffer. :p

Thanks for the youtube suggestion, I'll check him out. Hopefully he isn't spoiler-heavy.

That's part of the Pathfinder games though: stacking 5 buffs before any major fight. You have to learn which buffs can successfully stack by offering different bonus types.

It's quite the departure from the comparatively simplified D&D 5th edition ruleset, where any given character can only maintain a single buff and the accuracy bounding range is heavily compressed. E.g. in Pathfinder it isn't unusual for front-line characters to have 40+ AC, so you need buffs that let you roll in the 40's and 50's. But that also means back-line characters get torn to shreds in moments when they face enemies that can contend with front-line characters.

Welcome to Pathfinder.

And I would have recommended that one alongside ToyBox, but unlike with ToyBox you pretty much overtly go into that one with the intention of radically altering the game. ToyBox you at least can have the guise of "I'm just here for the bug-fixing and whatnot" and if there is some random thing that you actively hate about the game (such as friendly fire AoE's) you can set the switch to deal with that.

Ivynn posted...

\o/

Grease definitely got the best "boost" from being in a video game. While there really weren't any changes versus tabletop (minus one bug that will not matter for you until way later... at which point it still might not matter as you kind of have to seek it out) it goes from "kind of good" to "OP nonsense." It somewhat falls off eventually, but by god is it good early on and early on is arguably the hardest part of the game due to you lacking all of the synergies that happen as you get more levels/gear under your belt.

Nope, I'm not exaggerating when I say you'll spend a decent amount of time on just buffing alone. I used that mod in my recent Shifter run, I stopped playing WotR back in March to play Octopath Traveler 2, and it was a time saver. If you don't want to use it taking the Enduring spells mythic line asap is a great quality of life improvement since it extends your buffs to last (real) 24 hours aside from buffs that use turns instead of real time for duration, but you can also make those last 24 hours by using items that increase your caster level and taking either the angel or lich mythic path if you're a caster that can merge spellbook and using extend metamagic. This meme captures just how many buff you'll be casting lmao

Lol, I honestly only ever found I needed to super buff for large or boss fights. At least till Chapter 4, that's when it became easier to just walk around buffed. Enduring spells mythic is absolutely helpful for that.

Yeah, it isn't an exaggeration to say that you'll spend more time buffing than you will in the actual fights if you're "doing it right". Some people dig that kind of stuff. But for me it grates after a while, similar to games with weapon durability. But the difficulty settings are highly customizable so you can select something that allows for a level of buffing that you find comfortable.

Honestly, I actually like to manage buffs all on their own.

Some buffs are just too efficient for their level, so they are on for every bullshit fight, some buffs are too high ranked to be wasted on some trashmobs, and some other buffs may be in between.

But I understand that managing the spell- and abilityressources of a party of 6 may be a bit unfun for most people, especially if you just want to say "just as usual" with less than 10 clicks.

You have two forms, your kinda "combat" one that grows claws and whatnot, then the one that does a full on other form (your Shifter companion does a Griffin).

You get a lot of boosts for attacking with natural weapons so I imagine most builds use them.

I've seen a bunch of people who make Wendu a Manticore Shifter.
