Whyyyy :(

But also Graviks big plan is just the plot of CoD Modern Warfare 2.

Pretty easily the best episode so far imho.

the lord giveth and the lord taketh away

... they can't follow up a fake-out with a fake-out :(

heavy episode for 1-on-1 confrontations but I loved them, especially with the people involved. Kind of lolling at just Nick and Talos coming in to protect the President on their lonesome, it's kind of underwhelming that such a significant mission is carried by such a small team... and now with one less

obviously Super Skrull G'iah will be picking up the slack

Yeah, they did the one thing that was too obvious to be even remotely intelligent for a show that wants to keep up guessing, and I'm not talking about the thing that happens before the opening credits, though that was pretty obvious too. I was literally hoping for anything but that outcome. Really disappointing.

MCU-tangential, Ms. Marvel's resurrection mini is being cowritten by her MCU actress. She's joining the X-Men but they say they're not removing her Inhuman connection.

I don't think Quantumania poisons the well any more than the lack of interest in the greater MCU does.

We don't even know who is on the Avengers team now to fight back against Kang at this point.

it has to be pretty much immediately after Ms. Marvel's show, so Secret Invasion occurring after Ms. Marvel is possible

https://thedirect.com/article/secret-invasion-mcu-timeline-when-marvel\

It's also been confirmed to take place before The Marvels, with the show serving as a lead-in for Captain Marvel's second solo adventure, indicating the MCU's next movie will also be the latest yet in the franchise timeline.

... although clicking the link that quote is sourced by doesn't actually say that, but instead "[The Marvels] will rely on these 3 D+ shows"... scanning the thread for something to back up the timeline and the best I can come up with is a Sam Jackson citation.

Jackson's Nick Fury has been confirmed to play into The Marvels, and according to the actor, Secret Invasion "has to happen so that The Marvels can happen," noting that the pair "are connected in an interesting sort of way."

"x has to happen so that y can happen" sounds to me like Marvels is post-Secret Invasion, which means Fury can't die... or he gets Skrull'd but that would be lame.

For Quantumania I think it was a massive mistake to to have Kang be defeated by Ant-Man of all people. Yeah, I know he and an army of himselves are supposed to come back with a vengeance, but it's still not a good look for someone who's supposed to be this massive multi-universal threat who's set up to be someone who can cleanly thrash the Avengers. Imagine if Thanos first attacked as early as the Thor movie and got his shit kicked in by Hawkeye. It'd be really hard to keep going "Yeah, well watch out, because in future movies the Avengers are going to go up against Thanos again, so... that'll be exciting. Trust us."

I watched Quantumania recently and... what a weird movie. I don't really *hate* it, but it feels like three different movies with different premises combined into one and they don't really gel together. The plot of Scott and his daughter bonding doesn't really gel with the plot of going to a strange alien world and meeting alien creatures which doesn't really get with the whole Kang thing. The movie is weirdly dour for an Ant-Man movie and all of the human characters feel persistently out of place in the entire thing, especially Hope and Hank who mostly just stand around looking confused and perplexed the entire time and have almost nothing to do in the film. The weird alien world is sometimes cool, but the movie doesn't really do much with it. Kang chewing the scenery is sometimes cool, but there's a little too much of it for an Ant-Man movie. Scott and Cassie are sometimes funny and sweet together, but the movie doesn't really facilitate this well. It's an odd mess. It's doing a lot of things right but it doesn't feel like a cohesive product.

my biggest pet peeve with Quantumania is not just that he's defeated but that the movie spends the majority of the runtime telling you that Kang is a horrifyingly powerful threat. it's this big secret that Jane keeps from the family, she's immediately afraid when Cassie reveals she's been working on the Quantum Realm because of the great danger she is welcoming, when the stranded cast members meet new people of the Quantum Realm they're all in a state of fear of the looming danger of Kang. And THEN he finally reveals himself to the audience and he needs Ant-Man's help, Ant-Man obviously betrays him, and Kang gets defeated by ants.

Quantumania has become my prime example of show don't tell.

Quantamania really feels like it wrote itself into a corner. They do a good job - or at least, MAJORS does a good job of selling Kang as menacing, but then they had to have a happy ending to this film where the good guys win and it sort of comes off strange. It probably would have worked better to have this be a film where the heroes narrowly escape Kang, not defeat him - this is kind of what Ant-Man should be about anyway.

My rambling continues, but Loki had already introduced Kang through a grand expositional finale. Some people criticized it at the time sure, but hey I loved it because of Major's strong acting performance selling the character on his role as an intelligent, powerful authority getting his way no matter what decision our heroes chose.

Then Quantumania just... continues hammering on the exposition, this time without Kang's actual performance doing the work until the very end where he just gets trounced. By ants.

Valid points but I don't get thetrounced JUST by ants problem.
Been a while since I saw it, but don't they show the ants getting sucked into the quantum realm and mention they were already hyper intelligent and also mention that they have been down there for generations due to how time works down there, becoming more advanced and powerful all the time. It's silly yeah, but that kind of fits with Ant-Man.
Also I got the impression we would see that particular Kang again, like he would somehow return from the quantum-realm fuckery as the prime Kang. Probably with ant spray.

I do think I would have liked the movie more if there had been some consequences at the end. The fakeout tease of them being stuck in the realm was meh.

One of the implications of the movie that I thought would be more interesting was that it seemed like this Kang was interested in STOPPING the other Kangs and was trying to convince Scott that he would be necessary to do so, and even if it was for his own selfish reasons that felt like it could have been a cool setup to something - but he's dead now, so

Like it would have been perfectly fine to just have the heroes lose one. Set up the stakes for future movies. I know that's probably dark for an Ant-Man movie, but that's just part of a deeper problem with the story...

I think this was the wrong movie to establish Kang in. If he had already been established in some other movie than maybe his inclusion in this one could have been like a fun little twist? I dunno. It just feels like this movie would have been better off if it really stuck to Scott and Cassie in a weird alien world and trying to escape it.

It fits with Ant-Man for sure. But that's why Ant-Man is a really bad fit for Kang. If that happened to any ordinary Ant-Man baddie I'd just lol and enjoy it but not for somebody that they're trying to set up as a monolithic big bad, which the movie desperately tries to push. It's an incredible clash to spend the entire movie hammering on about how scary Kang is, then give that man a gag ending. And he's now supposed to be the next Avengers-level threat.

Yeah this would've been better for sure. That way it could again be Kang getting what he wants, actually setting him up, and actually doing something we were told in Loki that he would do - fight other Kangs.

I'm only two episodes into Secret Invasion but the ending of episode 1 was such a downer I can't really bring myself to care. I just do not care about this lame Skrull drama either.

I know they said "Nobody read the Secret Invasion comics" but god damn, maybe someone should have picked up the book at some point. They announced this thing, stripped it down to maybe two actual MCU characters kind of, and just disregarded anything that could have made this interesting. I understand it's on a budget but the show feels so empty and dull. Give me SOMETHING interesting with some more intriguing characters.

Like I don't get why they even bothered at this point. This series feels like the most pointless of all of them so far.
