Oh no my catching up on the MCU topic finally purged. I got to Spider-Man Homecoming, and we were trying to to go through Jessica Jones but kept getting pulled into watching other shows. The constantly depleting quality of the MCU overall made that project a lot less fun than it had been when I started though, admittedly.

I felt like I was really falling out of interest, but then Secret Invasion happened and it just completely sucked the rest of the wind out of my sails. And at this point, I'm going into every new MCU project just thinking "Please don't suck."

Aside from Echo Im not particularly dissuaded, Loki has the same team aside from the Director (also Benson & Moorhead are great replacements), and the films will be focus tested into eh at worst as they always are. Not expecting a big screen Secret Invasion.

I hate to tell you this but the MCU is done for quite awhile if even 20% of the news coming from The Marvels is any indication. That movie might not crack 400 million, maybe less, which is a total disaster.

The D+ shows have been trash, but they at least have the D+ excuse. The actual movies have no excuse anymore.

$400 million would be absurdly low for The Marvels given that Captain Marvel made $954 million without Russia and China. They are back to public test screenings and it seems that its testing positively. Of course anything can happen but that would be an extreme outcome.

I imagine a part of them trying to settle with the unions is that they have to increase the profit margin of the streaming services first. I expect this across the board.

I've got D+ as part of the bundle (via Verizon) so this shouldn't affect me.

But on a more general level, all these increases are going to do is make me want to switch between services and binge on each for a month. D+ in particular is going to be prone to this because they don't have the sports that ESPN+, Peacock, and Paramount+ do that can keep people subscribed more long term.

Regarding Jonathan Majors, the trial has been pushed back because his accuser has left the country, and they prosecution says they aren't ready to present their case.

It's feeling a lot like they simply don't have a strong enough case to propose now.

Nah bro they look like humans those are the good aliens. You got to go after the ones that look different.

Not viewing Asguardians to be like those other aliens would be incredibly poignant commentary on how people perceive foreigners who look like them vs ones who don't tbqh. Whether intended or not, it's very easy to write it from here.

I was only half-joking with my post while making political commentsry, but yeah. They can do some poignant remarks.

But then the difference is that the Asgardians (aside from Loki) never tried to destroy the world. And that the Skrulls can look like humans instantly and blend in fine. And that somehow Asgardians could have a home on Earth no problem instantaneously but somehow they couldn't give a proper home to Skrulls on Earth.

So it's a bit clumsy if they want to implement that idea.

Tbf there were apparently more than a million skulls needing homes and it seemed like a lot fewer Asgardians survived Ragnarock/Thanos.

This is actually true and a big problem in the MCU right now is that we have no idea where and who the Avengers are, and what is going on with the rest of the universe.

The Avengers dont exist anymore. If youre a hero and you uphold their ideals, you can claim a piece of their mantle for yourself. But the Avengers as a team are dead.

I swear that the Avengers have been mentioned in one of these shows or movies as though they were still a unit.

How have you not factored in and announced a Young Avengers thing!? You're clearly introducing all of them! How was a Young Avengers TV/movie not announced?

yeah it's baffling how badly they fumbled post endgame marvel

they tried to balance broadening the universe while occasionally checking in on the remaining core characters, but what they ended up doing was removing established characters off the board (Wanda, Dr. Strange, Thor, Black Widow, Spidey) without building to a new threat. Kang/the multiverse was supposed to be that, but it hasn't gone well, and that leaves you wondering what exactly was the point of everything not related to the multiverse.

Yeah, the fact that the big boys have mostly been shelved since early on in Phase 4 definitely hurts. I get they want to expand the universe and introduce the audience to new characters, but sometimes you need to rely on the heavy hitters to get people re-invested.

I think a lot of this is down to pandemic delays plus Chadwick Bosemans death. There was supposed to be a lot more of the big characters earlier but everything was delayed by about a year. They had to change a lot of plans accordingly, MoM was supposed to lead into NWH, Wakanda Forever was supposed to feature TChalla, and so on. It seems they actually had more of a plan this time than the previous phases which were pretty made up as they went along at first, but then reality struck. Also the TV shows being so many and so clustered together makes the gaps feel longer than it is. Really its only been two and a half years since Phase 4 started and just over two years since the first film of that phase.

Of course lets not exaggerate. Two of the three most recent films were critically acclaimed and made $850 million. The MCU will probably be fine.

Oh, I'm not Doomsday naysayer about the MCU like Ulti. I think it'll rebound, but it's definitely hit a lull.

I mean Disney literally just released the third highest grossing film of all time months ago. Im not a Disneyologist but Im pretty sure their recent issues are mainly down to Disney+, in particular losing millions of subscribers in India (for Succession fans they got Gojod) because they lost the cricket rights. These losses being so big it cancelled out their gains in the rest of the world - India is their biggest market outside the US so something like that is pretty devastating.
