As discussed in the discord, Twitter's contract with Google to use their servers ended on June 30th and they refused to pay to renew it.

So this limit is just a bullshit excuse to hide the fact that they don't have the servers they need and are scrambling to make things work.

I honestly can't fathom why people are still using Twitter

artists require a presence on a global platform where everyone exists so they can engage with others in their community, raise their profile, and to be accessible to as much potential customers as possible

... now that Twitter wants to limit how much people are allowed to see however, that kind of blows everything up

not to mention countless other features that Twitter has kneecapped to encourage its paywall, like allowing DMs (massive for customer service) or poll voting (previously significant to gauge what content your audiences want)

elon just wants to gradually paywall every feature on twitter one by one

Whether you accept Meta enough to give it a shot, gonna be an interesting as hell launch to witness.

I'd be really impressed though if it doesn't outright explode from the demand. Without federation to start with though that should rule out NSFW for the time being.

if Musk was running an at-all competent website there wouldn't be as much demand for a replacement to be brutally honest

People want a functional platform to engage with their communities and idols and that is the end of it, Musk has just been spending his entire ownership stripping Twitter down bit by bit to the point that it's actually getting in the way of its users.

If I could trade for a competent Musk who's still shitty in the ways he's shitty but actually runs the website well, I.... probably would? I know that sounds bad but Musk ruining his reputation and taking useful internet infrastructure down with him doesn't do anything for me
