If there's a benefit to tracking, it's smaller class sizes not classes of similar skill level. Like one was elementary and the other middle school, but same campus, same principal, etc. Like I know this sounds unbelievable but I'm not making it up. It wasn't like there were higher level classes available that they refused to put me in, the 7th grade teacher would have needed to be willing (or forced, I guess) to assign and grade higher level work within the same class.
