Board 8 > Mommadore passed away today

Not sure who I know is still around these parts, but if you knew me, you heard stories of Mommadore. Whether it be our personal interactions or my substitute teaching stories, she was a frequent subject of discussion.

She passed away after 5 weeks in the ICU. I held her hand as she took her last breath. I told her it was okay and a few minutes later she was gone. She waited until Commodad was out of the room, because she knew he wouldn't be able to handle it.

So yeah. Just thought some of y'all would want to know.

The mere thought of the inevitability that I'm going to lose my parents someday causes me distress. I can't imagine going through it this young (I believe you're roughly my age).

Thanks everyone. I appreciate. I'm holding it together alright. Working in medicine, it was a situation I've seen thousands of times. I knew the likely course of events and outcome. I've been "pre-grieving" for a while, so it's not like I'm in a state of shock.

Damn dude...she passed away during the day unfortunately. Funeral and visitation are booked, but we're debating on a celebration of life type thing too. And it's almost a full moon! You just gave me an idea...

I'm so sorry man =( an awful thing to go through.

It's been a whirlwind for sure. I still can't sleep hardly at all. I'm not necessarily out of my mind devastated (like I said, I had a month to prepare). I randomly burst into tears every few hours, but I was expecting a lot worse being an only-child-mommas-boy.

It's just the sleep. During the day I can barely keep my eyes open, so when I lay down at night I'm expecting to crash. But 4-5 hours later my body is wide awake. I'm capable of 10-12 hours if I don't have to wake up for something the next morning, so this is totally throwing me off.

Oh man, I am so sorry. I know how awesome Mommadore was. Stay strong and remember all the good times.

So sorry to hear brother. That's a beautiful way to go though. Hope you're holding up okay with the sleep problems. I just lost my brother a year and a half ago. Things will never be the same, but they'll get somewhat back to normal

Took me a long time after my dad passed before I slept normally. It's going to be rough for a while, unfortunately. Don't be surprised if you have some wild mood swings/unexplainable emotions. Everyone has a different reaction to grief.

Has anyone else who lost parents found it difficult to deal with the most innocent situations? Someone older than me mentions their mother and I feel some type of way. I meet someone older than my mother when she died who lives a less healthy life and I wonder why they got to be so lucky.

I'm not wishing ill will toward anyone and fully understand "thats how life works". Has anyone else felt the same?

I've felt this way about a grandparent, certainly. While I guess my grandmother lived to be a somewhat typical age, I was a bit of a late bloomer when it comes to my own life and she died before better things started happening to me. I'm sure you've heard that old saying that goes something like, do this for me "and I'll dance at your wedding". That never happened; she wasn't at my wedding, and maybe that's on me for blooming late but when I think about things like that it does make me feel a bit sad, and wondering why things didn't happen in a way where that could have been a reality. But that's a grandparent, though I'll say she was basically a second mother for me because I lived with her more than either of my parents when I was growing up and even into early adulthood.

getting married without my mom was particularly tough too

and watching shows that feature slowly dying parents kills me now. house of the dragon was a surprisingly emotional experience for me

The services were beautiful. Visitation and funeral were absolutely amazing. We laid her to rest in a mausoleum, surrounded by beautiful trees, flowers, and a pond with a fountain.

The fuckery behind the scenes was atrocious though. My aunts damn near got in a fist fight in the parking lot at the visitation (for reasons that had nothing to do with my mother). Everyone got so mad at each other that no one came the next day for the funeral (for reasons that had nothing to do with my mother). We still had plenty of friends and dad's family, but my mom's own family was nowhere to be found.

Waiting a few weeks to give myself time, then unleashing hellfire on mom's side of the family, cutting ties with them completely, and not giving them a single thing to remember my mother by.

My mother was sent to the ER yesterday with multiple blood clots detected in her body, which was preventing her from receiving enough oxygen to her blood, leading to her feeling lightheaded all day long. Now that she's being monitored and has been put on blood thinners to help the clots pass she will more likely than not recover, but I immediately thought about this topic and how wholly unprepared I feel for her inevitable passing and I'm now sick with anxiety over the thought of her mortality. I feel like just last week the thing I was worried about the most was my ten year old cat crossing the rainbow bridge, but this sensation is hitting on an entirely different cylinder and I have no idea how to cope.

My parents are thankfully both still alive, but theyre getting relatively old now (71 and 68) so Ive been thinking about whatll happen when they do pass. I still call my dad almost every day and Im not sure I could handle him dying anytime soon.
