A year after "What is a Woman?" originally released on the first day of Pride Month year, it was allowed to be posted on Twitter on the first day of Pride Month yesterday. It was then blocked from twitter due to obvious hate speech. When asked, The twitter CEO said it was a mistake and he was looking into it. Sounds like he overruled that, and as a result, Ella Irwin, Twitters Head of Trust & Safety, has resigned.

Today, it looks like the video has been unblocked and he has retweeted the video personally. In addition, he said he will be actively lobbying to criminalize doctors supporting trans kids. Because of $8, the conversation looks very one-sided in support of it. I don't usually post in this topic, but I am very upset at this enough for me to do so as a cathartic release to this.

Yeah, Twitter is just a hellscape now. Sorry you had to deal with what. Not that I often looked at Twitter replies before but occasionally there'd be some interesting/useful discussion. Now I only ever look at them if I'm feeling masochistic.

Special Prosecutor allegedly has Trump on tape acknowledging he had classified info taken at his golf course in NJ. CNN, WaPo and others cross-referenced the description of the tape with all the post-administration books people released and think it likely refers to a meeting described in Mark Meadows's book where Meadows describes Trump "recalling" a report written up by former Joint Chief of Staff Milley about how to attack Iran - including a massive troop deployment.

Trump's attorneys got subpoenaed over this document back in March and turned over material related to it but couldn't actually find the document itself.

Yesterday was the first day it was largely noticeable how many hate accounts were recently unbanned from twitter.

Not entirely related, but am I the only one who feels as if people of South Asian descent tend to face less discrimination in America and Europe compared to other "minority" groups? Or that at the very least, most of the discrimination they do face is for being Muslim (whether mistaken or not), rather than for being South Asian?

i'm not a person of south asian descent so i can't say that i would be able to make any reasonable or informed guesses at how much discrimination they face

On the twitter stuff I just want to say I feel really awful about the whole situation. Simply put capital cannot be expected to safeguard vulnerable people and not promote hate by itself. There needs to be regulation of these platforms, that is the only way forward.

That's fair. Stupid me sees comments about how "Britain is already primarily Muslim" or something getting 22 upvotes and wonders if people are conflating people of South Asian descent with Muslims. Not like that isn't a real thing, seeing how the TV Tropes page for "Interchangeable Asian Cultures" lists several instances where anyone with remotely brown skin gets mistaken for a Muslim. Not that discrimination against Muslims is any less wrong, but at least it's...ever so slightly easier to understand?

Best thing Pence can do is constantly undermine Donald's recollection of his experience ("I was also in the room when *insert decision* was made, and that is not how anyone there remembers it"), play super hard for the Christian vote, remind people no Vice President ever broke more tie-breakers in favor of the President's policies than him in our lifetimes, and play the victim of toxic workplaces with a terrible boss...preferably Stone Cold Steve Austin-style, but if not that then at least as somebody finally willing to speak up against wrong behavior is ways Americans can relate to toxic bosses. I feel like he's been biting his lip waiting for this large of an audience to say something more noteworthy anyway, but maybe he really is that passive.

Pence won't win, and he won't get close...but if he ran as a spoiler candidate afterward, those are his best ploys to longterm-hurt Donald's chances of reelection. Hurt Donald's credibility now, steal his Jesus-votes, prove with actions he was MAGA in tight times, and relate to those bullied at work.

It would never happen, but it would be both pretty funny and semi-decent strategy if Jeb! became Trump's new running mate.

I really don't know how to feel about Kavanaugh.

He joins the liberals shockingly often, but is that worth the guy getting in in the first place?

Kavanaugh is a moderate, as has been clear the whole time. He and Gorsuch are the swing voters now (Gorsuch isn't a moderate, but he takes really hardline lines of reasoning based on the principle that words mean exactly what they say. Sometimes that works out into a very liberal position).

I do expect that on some level Trump regrets the Kavanaugh nomination. He chose a moderate to try to do a bit of compromise and it won him no points from the left at all. So he might as well have chosen a hard right ideologue. And the next R president might feel that way.

Nothing about Kavanaugh seemed moderate during his nomination. Trump chose him because of Kavanaugh's views on the executive branch being immune to prosecution.

To expand on the above, though I imagine most have heard by now: Trump has been indicted by Jack Smith (the special counsel)/DOJ

DOJ hasn't publicly announced the charges yet so all the reporting comes from the fact that DOJ summoned Trump and his lawyers to appear at court on Tuesday but as far as I can tell the reporting so far has:

From what I hear, the Trump case is going before Judge Cannon, who bent over backwards for him in the matter of the special master? (And then got stamped down by an appeals panel, but still.)

Edit: I would say "at least Trump's supporters can't claim the judge was biased against him", but I suspect that most of the people planning to make that claim will refuse to be persuaded by reality.

From what I know, DOJ can request her to recuse and the 11th Circuit has precedent of reassigning a judge when they have shown unusual deference to a defendant.

I'm expecting the case is reassigned away from her (sounds like the reason she got the case is because it was initially deemed related to the old one) and that even if it isn't, if she tries to pull that shit again, DOJ can challenge and go above her head again.
