A jury has reached a verdict in Carroll v Trump. (Civil case, Carroll accusing Trump of rape)

Deliberation was quick, verdict to be announced in court imminently (3 PM EST-ish, which is 5 minutes)

There was some shit in Trump's deposition, like vile and self-incriminating shit, so paired with a quick verdict... maybe?

Update: There were like 9-10 counts in total but in summary.

The jury found Trump did not rape Carroll.
They did find that Trump did sexually abuse her. Carroll awarded $2m on that count alone.
They also found him guilty on basically everything else as well which was things like "Did Trump defame Carroll? Did Trump cause reputational harm? Did Trump act with malice?"

Each other count comes with a monetary award and news reporting it totals to around $5m

Reporter for MSNBC at the courthouse is speculating that the reason they returned no on rape but yes on sexual abuse is because by the definition of the charge it would require genital penetration and Carroll herself testified that she could not clearly recall if the assault included that.

Of course Trump can appeal. But honestly, he's probably pretty happy with how low this verdict is. Given that he is supposed to be a billionaire, the jury could have opted for much higher punitive damages. There is apparently no punitive damages cap in NY, so it would likely only be capped with the national guideline SCOTUS gave a long time ago - that it can't be more than 10x compensatory damages. So Trump could have been looking at close to a $50 million judgment.

But yes, going back to Trump's deposition because it didn't come up in the thread last week when all this stuff was released to the public. It had some fucking batshit stuff in it.

I think like most of us I kind of expect Trump to evade justice in most of these cases because it just takes one MAGA cultist getting past the jury screens to be a holdout but when this verdict was returned that quickly I knew there was just no way this was going to be some "totally exonerates the President, thank you" result because there was just no chance whatsoever an entire jury would see that deposition and be like "yeah that checks out"
