They should have just killed it altogether (or effectively done that by raising it to some absurd number) when they had full control, but a combo of wanting to use it as leverage when they're out of power and being afraid of GOP attacks (very easy to convince people that don't understand the debt ceiling that raising it a ton is "irresponsible") stops them from doing that.

Democrats believe in borrowing more money. To borrow more money, you have to keep current on payments on existing debt, or else people won't lend to you any more. So you need to borrow at least enough to pay off the existing debts so that you can then borrow even more.

Of course Trump can appeal. But honestly, he's probably pretty happy with how low this verdict is. Given that he is supposed to be a billionaire, the jury could have opted for much higher punitive damages. There is apparently no punitive damages cap in NY, so it would likely only be capped with the national guideline SCOTUS gave a long time ago - that it can't be more than 10x compensatory damages. So Trump could have been looking at close to a $50 million judgment.

I didn't frequent there so idk what the situation was so I can't say if this was warranted but that feels like not enough explanation for just disappearing a board that was, for better or worse, pretty active.

Also kinda weird that the announcement says it removed all political discussion boards on GameFAQs but community boards for that purpose seem to still be around? At least if the site showing me 5 of them at random is any indication.

The larger explanation is Fandom didn't want a politically focused board on a site they own.

However, the process was likely expedited by the Politics board being, uh, the way it was.

This is correct. And those said alt-rights typically came with a ton of alts. Imagine every shitty take you've seen, and multiply that by a thousand. That was more or less what 261 was. There was the occasional actual discussion, but a lot of the noise on that board was just pointless arguing. Not to mention admins barely ban any account with a decent karma amount. Election denial, covid misinfomation, actual calls for violence, all these and more would result in you still being welcome back to the site after a few months.
