hey im playing p5r too! i'm in the last free time segment in royal content and i just don't want the game to end lol.... even though everything's basically maxed...

how far are you on ps4?

In October, right after finishing Okumura's dungeon but before the followup.

I usually take my time with games, but part of me wants to hurry and finish so I can get playing P5 Dancing Star Night. I loved P4D but I don't want to get spoiled on anything while playing.

It is very apparent that the writers do not want the viewers to like Suletta Mercury. I hate the trope where a writer wants you to despise the main character, especially if the main character is a women. It's like a mental trap that creates unnecessary arguments.

Idk what you're talking about, this episode of gundam witch was everything I was waiting for. All my growing doubts, blown away in an instant. This was the show the prologue promised.

Suletta seems kind of hard to really hate. She is being manipulated from every angle and unlike shinji, she did in fact get in the robot. The final 2 episodes made her a lot more likeable for me.

This episode though, omg, it was amazing. Guel's bit, suletta, miorine, the mom, nina, the fights. This was awesome. Made the whole show worth it. That final post credits scene too. Oof that was so well done. I cannot fuckin wait for season 2 now. I hope it comes soon. Definitely the best single episode of anime from last season, even better than bocchi episode 8. I'm tempted to just go watch it again.

I've learned to be wary of that because I've seen it in pretty much all subscription services. It's definitely bullshit though.

Slightly related, today I came across Persona 5 Royal for Switch with the steelbook for five dollars at one of those falling prices stores. I'm already playing the game on PS4, but the Switch version has the benefit of portability plus all DLC included. Deciding if I want to keep it, flip it for profit, or what.

Should I get it for the Switch or PS5?

It's not a particularly high-end game that would benefit from being on the PS5, and I haven't heard any complaints about performance on Switch, so might as well go with that.

I was a little leery of it since I know they gutted FF15. I'll see which one I get I guess. I prefer physical games anyway.

For what it's worth I got mine for the switch and had a blast with it.

It's a turn-based game so high fps isn't a necessity, and the game maintains a consistently smooth 30 fps throughout. Never had a single dropped frame in my 300+ hours with it.

Up to you whether you prioritize higher fidelity graphics and visuals over portability.

For me personally, the persona style of visual novel + turn-based combat + dungeon crawling in segmented sessions of gameplay, lends itself perfectly for portable gaming.

I'm really digging "Ah... and Mm... Are All She Says." It's like a fusion of Bakuman and Komi-san, except it's the eromanga industry instead of just regular manga. It's well written with great characters and the art is refreshingly different and unique.

Bakuman + eromanga industry sounds like a great combo. Hopefully it gets an anime.

Speaking of anime, my god theres so many this season. I started a lot yesterday and today.

Vinland saga season 2 started off with a super sad episode. That might be sadder than to your eternity's first episode and I feel like the saddest part is that it wasn't a unique tragic situation, it was just something that happened to thousands of people as part of the times. I'm a little hesitant on season 2. They are rid of by far the best character in season 1 AND it supposedly goes pacifist, which is not what makes the show good at all. Still, it started off quite strong this season.

High card is one of the more unique anime this season. It's almost like jojo except the powers come from a card instead of being innate so you can just take someones power. First episode was decent but still needs to show more.

Mou Ippon was decent. Seems like the judo is going to be pretty accurate and theres some yuri undertones (even aside from the sport being sweaty girls grabbing onto each other). The character design is kinda weird though, everyone looks wider than I'm used to.

Hero king is about what I expected. Feels like some 7/10 fantasy comfort food. Actually almost exactly the same as reincarnated exorcist. A lot of similarities.

Angel next door seems like some wholesome slice of life romance. Nothing all that unique but the execution is solid and comfy.

Handyman Saito was better than I thought it'd be (although I thought it'd be bad). It's not amazing but I like the chill comedy of the show.

80,000 gold was pretty fun. Odd that the best character (the brother) is just a memory. I look forward to economic exploitation to come.

Kicked out of the demon army is another in a surprisingly common new sub genre of "kicked out of _____ but I'm secretly OP and they regret it". Like beast tamer last season and disillusioned adventurer's this season. This time it's not a hero or adventurer party though, it's the demon army. I'll probably still watch it but it's not exactly good.

Misfit S2 started off kind of confusingly. I don't really remember everything that happened in season 1 but it's fine for now I guess.

And I still have like 4 more shows that already aired to watch like nagatoro S2, ayakashi triangle (some hopefully decent ecchi trash), mononogatari (although how dare it have a name so close to the GOAT) and nier automata. And we still got blue lock and eminence in shadow airing.

To be fair, the first episode is basically a bunch of mini stories each taking just a minute or two. Could very quickly tell the source must of have been a 4koma.

I read the first chapter of it just to check it out. Seems interesting, although not nearly enough to make me read a manga. Hopefully it gets an anime adaptation since it seems like it's finished.

Campfire cooking isekai was a lot more enjoyable than I expected. Perhaps because it's being done by MAPPA. Quality food porn during the cooking portions. This really is the season of isekai.

Yeah I mean I just don't know if an entire one-cour anime can keep this up (also it wasn't technically 4koma, just extremely short chapters). I really hope it does!

I guess bocchi was literally a 4koma and managed to be anime of the season so I do have some hopes

I thought I was getting a bit tired of Romantic Comedies and almost passed on Kubo-san wa Mob wo Yurusanai this season. The first episode has similar feeling to Takagi-san (but in High School) to me. Very satisfied with this relationship, although it feels like it's a stereotypical quiet boy / popular girl trope which the genre feeds off of.

Been mostly enjoying the anime season so far but I'm dropping spy classroom. This 3rd episode has got to have some of the worst fighting of all time. So many free chances to attack with a gun or knife and instead they use the hilt or a karate chop, that lands, and just does basically nothing. They also completely just assume the guy is beaten once they land a blow and relax. Maybe it made some kinda sense in the source but in the anime this was one of the most painfully awful fights I've ever seen. The plan was also very stupid. And omg at the end after the sniper shot the dude just keeps on fucking sitting there and talking for like 20 seconds?!? I'm practically foaming at the mouth. Moderately ok premise, absolute dogshit execution (the pacing is also awful). A shame. Back to my 15 identical fantasy shows this season instead I guess that have the decency to be at least mediocre instead of painful. So much for any variety.

Revengers episode 2 and 3 were a bit better now that I better know what to expect (over the top assassin show instead of cool grounded samurai show).

It's been good so far. Clearly the top production this season. Honestly is pretty chilling seeing the entire process of someone getting enslaved. I just don't want thorfin to go pacifist like I know he will. I've really grown to loathe pacifist characters. Makes me want to rewatch that break blade part where the pacifist character realizes the error of his ways in a realistically tragic scenario.

Fire Emblem Engage is going to be my universe for a little while.

Engage has pretty fun combat but the story is like, Fire Emblem Warriors 1 bad; 3H plot suffered from being too ambitious and Engage is suffering from having no ambitions. Animations are fucking incredible this time around and they actually change as you level up, not just on class change. Emblem system is a neat power boost and they counterbalance it by making enemies beefy as fuck and having the AI be great at abusing the break system

thank god the base doesn't mean shit anymore because while it was fun for one game with 3H, I didn't like how mandatory it was

The reviews I'm reading mostly seem to say the same. Awful story, amazing gameplay, meh characters with great visual designs, and wonderful combat animations. Oh and good performance.

I'm trying to decide right now if I want to get it. I just finished symphony of war: the nephilim saga which was a pretty ok srpg which also had good gameplay and weak story/characters. I'll be getting wild hearts on the 15th next month and then wo long (by the nioh devs) on march 3rd so I have a bit of a window before that gauntlet of gaming begins, but I'm not sure I want to put fire emblem in that window or just take a break from gaming and let my health recover a bit.

Started on Summertime Render. 2 eps in and it's pretty interesting.

As for games, I finished the pokedex in Pokemon Scarlet, although I still want to get my own Miraidon. Managed to hatch myself a shiny Charmander, so I'm in the process of ev training that.

The angel next door is incredibly wholesome and sweet. I hope it doesn't get melodramatic at episode 11.

I guess I haven't talked about anime the last few days. My opinion is still roughly the same. Lots of decent or watchable anime but not many great anime and only really vinland saga has a chance to be a masterpiece. This is the best season of danmachi though and it's actually pretty great. I think the show in general is like a 7-8/10 but this season is a 9. You know a show with a prostitute arc can't be that bad.

In some ways it's kind of disappointing though. We have like 50 billion new fantasy anime, but the only real new standouts this season are angel next door and tomo-chan, both modern romantic comedies. Well I guess angel next door isn't that comedic, but still. In some ways it reminds me of horimiya.

Oh wait, I forgot about magic revolution. That fantasy is actually showing some signs of being really good. The first few episodes were just decent, like the rest of the new shows, except better because it's yuri, but the last episode or two actually had some quality presentation and characterization in parts of it.

On the opposite end, evolution fruit was a trash barely watchable isekai a few seasons back and the fact that it got a second season is already a crime against anime, but this second season is so awful, like wtf. I managed to watch season 1 to conclusion even though it was always right on the edge of being dropped, but something very wrong must have happened to this season because it's legitimately some of the worst anime I've ever seen. The characters act different, they make a bunch of references they try to pass off as humor, the plot makes no sense, but the worst part of it all is easily the pacing. Every single thing takes soooo long even though borderline nothing happens and what does is communicated so poorly to the viewer.

I've read in comments that it also massively deviates from the source material even though season 1 was faithful. Like, they cut out 4 of the 8 new characters and completely changed how the events played out. It's managed to skip from bad, right over so bad it's good, to just irredeemably bad.

Also a little confused on mitsuha's plan in 80k gold. Like, won't somehow selling all sorts of otherworldly goods make her incredibly suspicious? And then invalidating a bunch of industries probably leaves her as a prime assassination target as well. Seems like with the teleporting power it'd be relatively trivial to make a ton of money in a much less suspicious way. As we know from bookworm, even just selling normal ass paper could upend society and make her incredible money. If she is gonna take that much risk, just deposit something in a safe deposit box (so she can see the inside) in the bank and then teleport in after hours and clean it out.

She's basically running on secondhand isekai knowledge due to her brother's rants- she knows what isekai-ers do but she still makes stupid mistakes that make her stand out way too much (see: fish). She also upholds a weird sense of restraint that stops her from going fully ham because she wants to cheat but not too much. All of FUNA's protags (I Will Survive Using Potions and I Said Make My Abilities Average) do this lol.

I'm just starting the fifth dungeon in Persona 5 Royal. The aftermath of the fourth dungeon went down pretty much how I expected it to, although some of it was still a surprise.

Also it's funny that I actually have three different copies of the game (original autographed by Joker VA, Royal for PS4/Switch) and I still haven't even beaten it yet.

plastic is something that neither the maids nor the chef have any kind of experience about why it's good, fish is something they KNOW should be impossible to procure

It's not about how good plastic is or not, it's just a completely foreign material that isn't like anything they've ever seen. Besides, it's not like fresh water fish don't exist. It seems perfectly reasonable for there to a pond for cultivating them nearby. I bet we will even see a koi pond at some point. And even if you take fish from the ocean, they act like it must be killed the moment you fish it up. You could transport them still alive in an ocean water container and not kill them until you need to eat them.

Danmachi is so damn good this season.

Also Carol from tomo-chan is an interesting character. She's more like a balloon alien than a human but that makes her adorable in an almost creepy way. All the characters in tomo-chan are actually really good. The more standard character types in it at least have some nice twists like Jun silently retaliating against misuzu but carol is just something else. Great show.

Giant beasts of Ars has become a lot more fun after it got through the more plot heavy first couple of episodes and gained a larger main cast. Now that it's a proper adventure fantasy it's great. The world is nice and unique and they put a solid amount of world building into each place. The fact that every rando village seems to have a different animal chappau is hilarious. Feels like something you'd see in a video game like the katz from tales. I'm sad the show has such a low score but I do get it. The action scenes leave a lot to be desired. Like a lot a lot. It's not like the animation is bad technically, just supremely unambitious to detriment of all the fights. In the moments where they do decide to animate something, it tends to look pretty good.

Even though this season is undoubtedly weaker than last season, it's still got a lot of stuff I'm enjoying. I bet I'll fall behind come the 7th though. MH sunbreak has a title update with some new monsters and then a week later I get wild hearts and then 2 weeks after that it's wo long. I've got almost too many games to play.

So we're like almost half way through the season and yea, things are about as bad as I thought they'd be. Despite two shows from IPs I love being broadcast (Love Live, Trails), the show I like the most this season is Kubo-san won't let me be Invisible.

There is a Love Live unit concert over the weekend that I might watch a recording of assuming that this weekend they'll announce Setsuna's replacement Seiyuu with Tomori leaving next month. Although it would be pretty cool to see if Tomori is in good enough condition to do Chase one last time before her retirement.

I'm sorry, I take that back. Currently watching episode 5 of the Cold Steel anime and I am laughing my ass off about how Lavi meets Rean and Altina. Extremely stereotypical Falcom storytelling here.

The cold steel anime is pretty easy to watch. It's clearly not amazing, but I'll likely watch it to the end.

Blue Lock is getting crazy good though. It's wild because honestly during the first part, I was pretty disappointed and thought the show was straight up bad, but the second selection has been amazing. There's also enough layers of failure protection that it's unlikely that a good player will just get bad teammate RNG and lose like could easily happen in the first section.

Although it's ironically defense that is the most important aspects in all these games, not that the show will ever admit it. Since they are all so good at scoring, it's the few they manage to stop that tend to turn the games.

Decided to finally start reading 3-gatsu no lion seeing as the manga is now over 100 chapters after where the anime ended and I'm guessing there will never be a third and fourth season. Huge shame because the first two seasons were animated excellently.

Anime continues to be good. I hadn't actually started nagatoro S2 until yesterday cause I knew I'd watch it and wanted to try new shows at first but ended up not dropping as many shows as I thought at first.

This season is the easy to watch season for me. Bofuri S2, handyman saito, campfire cooking, farming isekai, onimai, and eminence in shadow all feel like I could watch 50 more episodes and still not be tired of em. And for bofuri I feel like I could watch 100s and keep going. And we still have danmachi and vinland saga for harder but better watches. I wonder how much we know about next seasons line up now. Maybe I'll take a look.

Looking forward to smartphone next season. They should make it to some of the more interesting arcs if they pick up the pace; first season only covered three volumes out of fucking 25.

I hope Oshi no Ko is gonna be good but it's such a weird one.

Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu (The Dangers in my Heart).

I just looked at the new season and the only new adaptations I'm personally familiar with are Oshi no Ko, and Kima wa Houkago Insomnia. I wouldn't have expected the latter to get an anime, but I'm not complaining.

And it looks like the game/app will allow you to watch their streams through it and there are milestone rewards based on subscribers(?).

I've been watching Hajime no Ippo on and off. I've heard it was very similar to Kenichi in spirit (wholesome novice protagonist, realistic depiction of martial arts, etc.), which is one of my favorite shounen. That Ippo/Miyata rematch was intense; Miyata's counter was one of the most brutal attacks I've seen.

I forget where I stopped watching the anime, but the first few minutes of the Champion's Road movie for ippo is absolutely godlike

Damn, what a finale for eminence in shadow. I hope theres a season 2 and soon.
