To be fair I've also heard this about literally every single adaptation. It's never once been good enough for people that read whatever source it's from.

I can say with 100% absolute, unarguable certainty that the Usagi Drop anime is better than the manga. I say this not having actually read the manga, but knowing what sets them apart, the anime actually knew where to stop and therefore doesn't ruin itself.

I think the anime ended before the manga did - but either way, the end result was all for the best.

That seriously was one of the worst twists in anime/manga history. I never finished the manga once it was clear what direction it was heading.

But as for adaptations in general, it's to be expected that people are left unsatisfied when the developers cut out so much of a series; turning a long running series into one season, or a several-volume manga into a single movie. Even if they don't decide to change the ending, you wind up losing half of the development that brought you there. But there have been adaptations that expand or improve on the source, sorta like Usagi Drop.

Indeed. The only reason Usagi Drop's anime is better is because the manga completely ruined everything and the anime just didn't get there. Presumably, the shared material was the same or better in the original than in the adaptation. It's kind of inevitable, given the nature of investment into entertainment, the budget required to produce animation, and the rigid structure enforced by delivering things in seasons.

I know the assclass anime is pretty well received at the very least but no idea about compared to it's manga.
triguns anime is much better than the manga, the manga just gets fuckin stupid in the second half

i'd also argue that fma, both, are better than the manga despite the second fma anime just being the manga

That's why I stopped reading Kenichi. I was like 100 chapters left to go and then the series ended. I knew it had been rushed since there's no way it could have been done right in that small amount.

Went ahead and beat the final boss in XC2. Never did get the 3 missing blades, but I can do that if I do a second play of it. Not sure what to play now, so I threw Mario Kart 8 in there for the time being. Also, been playing Ghost of Tsushima and got to the second act. Pretty enjoyable samuraiing experience. Had a sealed copy of it for nearly two years lol.

As for watching, still not watching any anime, but I've been watching Brooklyn Nine Nine. Just finished the seventh season, so there's just one left to go.

Im halfway through the first season of To Your Eternity and enjoying it more than I thought I would so far. Though, Ive heard the animation quality takes a dive in the latter part of the series and Im worried that this may become a cycle of Fushi meets friends, Fushi learns a lesson, Fushis friends die, Fushi assimilates one of them and moves on.

What the fuck?! Renai flops is either terrible or a masterpiece and I can't tell which. My brain is broken now. The episode before the most recent one might be the most absurd single episode of anime I've ever seen and then this one is uncanny mindfuck. What even is this show? I'm actually so glad it's anime original so I don't have to avoid spoilers. Somehow the most recent episode kind of reminded me of baldr sky. Actually now that I think about, so did the cyborg episode.

Somehow I feel like this managed to one up akiba maid wars in terms of absurdity because of how insidious it is in this show. Akiba maid war hits you with nonsense 15 seconds into episode 1 but this show... I don't even know. Well, I do have SOME thoughts.

This latest episode had some clear simulation effects and the show's name is love flops. The girl he meets in the "past" is named Ai (love) so clearly she is central to the concept. They even removed all the other girls from the ending making it more creepy. In the previous episode, we see a bunny alarm clock council overseeing shit with one human redheaded woman seemingly in charge. It seems as though she is somehow managing this simulation. My best guess is that maybe Ai died, and her mother, the redhead scientiest created a simulation using data uploaded from her dead daughter and trapped the main character in there. Or perhaps main guy chose to enter the simulation because he couldn't accept her death.

It's also possible main guy is a vegetable after some accident. The thing sticking with me is Ai saying never to return there. That makes it sound like he can leave but she can't, which is why I think it's her that died.

Although hm... Maybe theres more to the title play on words than I thought. We've seen it before in somnium files but maybe Ai is an artificial intelligence all along and main guy was used for her development or is a second AI, the one that actually made it to production while Ai "flopped" and was scrapped, confined to the simulation.

With how absurd this show is and how quickly they change all the rules every other episode, it feels pretty hard to accurately predict outside of this all being a simulation. I can't beleive a show where in episode 1 the main guy gets PTSD from losing his anal virginity to a dog has become something that feels almost profound.

One thing I CAN say though, is why the hell is it censored? This shit is up there with the lewdest of the lewd and yet is completely censored. It just seems incongruent.

God this season is stacked. Bocchi the rock was good at first but in the last few episodes it's become amazing. The last episode was definitely the best so far and payoff for a lot of what we've seen. Honestly, if this had been the last episode, it would have been fine. I'm glad this show is rated as highly as it is.

Yeah but even then, like, you could just write the show to not be that way for that one particular element. It adds less to the spoiler part than it detracts from the overall experience. At least IMO.

Starting to have a deep dive into Production Kawaii's vtubers after Sava's Morrowind stream the other day. I had been aware of all of them since the first gen debuted, but didn't know that the not-Nene ones were really good (I don't really like Nene). I am very satisfied with these talents.

Also the second gen Idol Corp talents are also pretty good as well.

Was a few episodes behind on chainsaw man but just caught up. I think it's to just before I stopped reading the manga years ago. Definitely more palatable to me in anime form. They had some superb scenes in this one that really take advantage of motion and perspective.

Been fallin behind on lots of anime cause of pokemon. Ranked came out today for it and I've played 40 matches already (gone 17-23). My first time playing competitive pokemon and I'm using a team I came up with trained up myself. It's more fun than I expected honestly.

Ended up watching The Quintessential Quintuplets after that earlier ask, and I can definitely understand why people recommend the manga in that ones case. Vague spoilers:

the girl he ends up choosing is the least developed of the five and I feel like the decision came out of left field. Literally every other character has more development and hints as to why it might be her. I was pretty sure I had it narrowed down to two options, with one of them I was near certain would be the one and the one did choose came out of left field and felt so unexpected and unearned. Apparently shes built up more in the manga and I can see it being more enjoyable that way. Overall though, even if he had chose a character that got more development, not generally what I go for in my animes. Story kept me engaged enough, but I feel like it might have been portrayed better had it been written by a woman and not had all the unnecessary lewdness in it.

I only play doubles and palafin doesn't seem especially strong there. I've encountered 3 and beat 2 of. The one I lost wasn't really due to the palafin. Giving up a turn in doubles to switch out when I can pretty easily predict the switch is a big tempo loss.

The real menace is farafarig and trick room teams in general. I'm like 5-15 in my last 20 games. I think this is about as far as the team I built can go.

I think bocchi is my favorite non action anime this season. The show is godlike. It's got a little more oomph than a lot of a cute girls do cute things so it doesn't get boring like they tend to for me but it still has a lot of those moments as well. The animation and presentation of the jokes is 11/10 and IMO even surpasses nichijou (although it's not as funny, if that makes sense).

Finally finished my New Game AND New Game+ runs of Persona 5 Royal.

Got all the Thieves Den awards, unlocked every unlockable in the den, got both endings for both original and royal path, watched all the unique confidant scenes, and built a perfect team of max level, max stats persona.

Clocked in at around 300 hours.

Damn near perfect game.

It's rare that a game makes me want to stay in the world so much that I would immediately go for a NG+ run right after finishing it.

In fact I want to stay in this world so much that I'm starting Persona 5 Strikers right now!

I'm still in October of my first playthrough. I did have a weird glitch in the Thieves' Den awards; on the one to beat the Reaper five times my game says I'm at 1/5 times, but I've never beaten it before, ever. I'm still on my first run and I'm nowhere near strong enough to survive, let alone win against it. I've searched online to see if this issue is common but I haven't found anything.

I finished another watch of Brotherhood last night; amazing series, and one of the best anime ever... and yet at the same time it just made me appreciate the 2003 anime even more, and re-confirmed that for the most part I prefer that over Brotherhood.

To be clear I really do love both shows, and there are a lot of aspects where Brotherhood clearly comes out on top. Brotherhood's Big Bad was more interesting, and the plot didn't go in strange directions like 2003 did. But the two shows have different approaches, and I like that 2003 is more of a human drama that focuses less on the end goal and more on the journey and the way that it impacts the characters along the way. Brotherhood often felt a little too shounen-ish, especially near the end.

Several characters did get more depth in Brotherhood, but that can be chalked up to having more time to do so. IIRC 2003 clocked in at 50 episodes; Brotherhood had 64, and that was *after* rushing through the beginning. Even then, some characters got no depth at all; Lust, Gluttony and Sloth were all one-note, and along with Envy they often felt like flat Saturday morning cartoon villains, evil for the sake of evil. I did like how the homunculi all met their ends in ways ironic to their sin, as far as the origin of the homunculi I think the first show was more in keeping with the show's themes.

That leads into the next point. The 2003 anime had loss, atonement and redemption as its major themes, and its ending(s) stayed true to that. In comparison Brotherhood's ending always felt too safe to me. There's a lot at stake in both series and '03 isn't afraid to reflect that in the death toll, but outside of predetermined events (the characters' pasts, Hughes/Nina, and Ishval), in Brotherhood I think we only lost like three good guys (Hohenheim, Fu, Buccaneer). Even putting death aside, 2003 was a little more grounded and less optimistic. People didn't get what they were looking for or actively chose to give it up in order to do the right thing, whereas Brotherhood's ending was smiles all around (and Ed really didn't have to pay much to save Al in the end).

Music wise I prefer 2003 soundtrack, but I think that's mostly just apples and oranges (but I did think several of the opening and ending themes in '03 were better). One thing that is definitely lacking in Brotherhood is "Brothers." It's the defining musical theme of the Elric brothers, and it's just not in Brotherhood at all.

I watched 2003 and then Brotherhood, and now I just want to watch 2003 again.

Yeah I too liked 2003 a bit better. Just the general vibe of 03 felt more scary and tense and less battle shonen.

Also saw that lookism got a chinese anime and watched that. i'd heard of the webtoon before and figured I'd watch it. Was honestly a pretty good production for a chinese studio, they seem to be catching up (which makes sense with how much is outsourced to them by japanese studios). The story is fun although not exactly well thought out or especially well written. Would watch a potential season 2.

i don't think bocchi is a goat or something but it is directed really well for the lesser budget it has. the way they blended rotoscoping into animation in episode 8 looks incredible

Of everything this season Akiba Maid might actually be the anime of the season for me.

And onto why I posted here:
As I've been saying I've suddenly felt a EN Vtuber kick, specifically with Kawaii. Both Sava and Nami are really nice to listen to. Neither have super jarring voices which is something that a lot of EN Vtubers seem to have to me.

My own taste never fails to amaze me, even with things that I like. And I'm not joking either. I'm behind on everything this season except for GWitch and Akiba Maid, which one is really bad and the other I wouldn't have normally watched but got recommended from a friend after the first episode aired.

That's the same thing with anime in general. You wouldn't know if the Japanese voices are bad unless you know the language.

Wow, just looked at next season's anime lineup and I hope you people like fantasy cause my god theres like 25 of em next season. We also get 2 genderbender yuri (one actually might not be yuri, I was unclear, but the other definitely is) and one regular yuri. I'll take what I can get.

Boyish high school girl Aizawa Tomo finally manages to tell her childhood friend Jun that shes got a crush on him. Unfortunately, her confession goes right over his headhe didnt even realize she was a girl until junior high, and even now, Jun still thinks of her as
This might be the only show I watch next season.

Amane lives alone in an apartment, and the most beautiful girl in school, Mahiru, lives just next door. They've almost never spoken-until the day he sees her in distress on a rainy day and lends her his umbrella. To return the favor, she offers him help around the
Well I might watch this too.

Junta Shiraishi has just one goal: to experience youth to the fullest! But this is easier said than done. Junta is so socially invisible that people at school would swear he skipped class even when hes sitting right behind them. Everything changes when Junta meets Nagisa Kubo. Shes the only person who pays Junta any attention, and her constant teasing is sure to turn Juntas quiet life upside down because Kubo wont let him be invisible!
Oh wait, another Romance show. I guess I don't have to worry.

And then I see:

Finally the Northern War anime out of nowhere.

oh hey my favorite isekai's getting an anime next season

https://myanimelist.net/anime/52461/Rougo_ni_Sonaete_Isekai_de_8-manmai_no_Kinka_wo_Tamemasu

it's pretty shameless economic exploitation with a slightly psychopathic main character

Just finished up immoral guild. The show really grew on me and I'm sad to see it go. Supposedly the BD sales in japan did really well so a good chance of a season 2.

Mob Psycho 100 also ended but I'm not caught. I watched like 5 episodes today but still have the last 4 left. It's nice to see mob's growth in small interactions throughout the season.

And now I've finished mob psycho and a realization hit me that it's practically an alternate interpretation of monogatari with a similar final arc and "villain". Both shows have a blond haired "master" type of questionable ability as well that impart similar wisdom and run a business fighting supernatural entities. I do think monogatari is the better of the two, but I also think monogatari is the best anime of all time, so that doesn't say too much. Mob Psycho managed to be an incredibly good story and I think the ending was a good one which is rare for anime.

Think I'll be finishing off DIY next. Still like 2 weeks till the new season starts but at least this season has a few late enders and a few that are 2 cour.
