What do we think about the Ukraine strike on a Russian occupied barracks?

Ukraine claims they killed hundreds, Russia claims the death total was 63.

I wouldn't really trust numbers given by either side until this is all over, and maybe not even then.

But even aside from the specifics it sounds like it was a particularly devastating strike that Russia has even acknowledged that it occurred, yes?

It's likely 100s of casualties. 63 deaths.

Ukraine likes to count all casualties and Russia only deaths. Ofc with some skew also.

They are mad because the barracks was not hidden, with exposed combat vehicles, and was right next to an ammo dump with caused the massive explosion.

It's hard to parse propaganda from not anymore, and it became quite evident as the war went on the first few months that propaganda is immense on both sides.

yeah, the last thing i heard about the war in the news was bakhmut-related.

For what it's worth, I have seen some stories and videos on the war in the last 3 weeks. Not as much as there had been, ofc, but a non-zero amount like I suggested previously.

Bakhmut has all but ground to a halt, though Russia are now attacking Avdiivka, a town in Donetsk very close to where the initial 2014 frontline is. Apparently Ukraine are buying time for their next big counteroffensive in the spring. That is basically the extent of it.

When wars get this long it's hard to find meaningful progress.

Russia has continued to advance in Bakhmut but at a very slow pace. One of the Russian generals who was fired has now returned indicating yet another shakeup in command and ongoing tensions there. Also there was a big prisoner exchange for Orthodox Easter. That about covers it.

Some footage from Russia of a tiny drone explosion that was supposedly an assassination attempt on Putin? Based on the size of the popping drive I have a hard time believing it could have reliably taken someone out in such a large building. They would have needed to have had a precise location of true target as well as probably an open window.

Feels more like Russia giving themselves an excuse to retaliate in kind.

But of course I'm open to adjusting my opinion if we find out anything definitive about this event.

First of all we need to mention the Russian invasion of Russia, when Russian rebels sympathetic to Ukraine invaded Belgorod. Ukraine have also made strikes into Russia now as well.

More importantly the counter-offensive has begun and Ukraine seem to be advancing.

Seems like Wagner group is rebelling against Russia?

Yeah, they have entered Rostov Region. There is videos of them bypassing barricades and possibly surrounding the Southern District of Military Command headquarters. This is all unverified however.

Basically Prigozhin said Russia (who previously said he must roll his troops into the MoD by July 1st) launched 2 airstrikes on their bases last night. Then vowed to destroy everything in his way as he enters Rostov Region. Russia has been scrambling to set up roadblocks and has helicopters in the air.

They say they have shot down 1 Russian helicopter and possibly have had firefights with Russian forces on the way in so far.

Not verified who these are in these videos but the locations are verified.

This situation is totally nuts. Waiting for better information to come in through the weekend but this feels like it could be a real turning point.

Prigozhin says all 25k of his troops and another 25k are prepared to die to topple Russian Military Command. There are reports and videos with gunfire on the road to Moscow from Rostov that is approximately a few hours from Moscow. Moscow has announced they are tightening up security for anti-terrorist measures.

So far no generals have come out to support Wagner, but troops have let them go by and not blocked them as ordered in areas.

Wagner have also reportedly taken all military sites in Voronezh, about 300 miles/500 kilometres from Moscow outside of which MoD forces are setting up defensive lines. Additionally there is footage of civilians helping Wagner troops.

Looks like Ukraine has taken areas outside Krasnohorivka held by Russia since 2014. Big movements thanks to the Wagner rebellion.

Speaking of which it sounds like they will be in Moscow in a couple of hours. The mayor just advised no travel and suspended all events for a week. Hard to imagine them not getting there now.

It is said that before the war, Putin consulted the Oracle of Delphi, who told him that if he invaded Ukraine, a great Russian army would be greeted as liberators by the commonfolk, and march into the capital in just three days.
