This consumed a group chat I was in earlier and I wanted to hear the opinions from here.

How loosely are we defining doors? Like I can count 25 "doors" in just my kitchen based on cabinets and appliances.

This is an easy wheels when you consider machinery and gears

I originally thought doors, but after someone pointed out toy cars (including lego wheels) I think it's impossible to be anything but wheels.

Wheels when you count toys like Hot Wheels and Lego.

Many toy cars also have doors, though not necessarily functioning.

I originally thought wheels, but there are just so many buildings that can have an obscene amount of doors, and as mentioned, several things (mainly thinking of various vehicles) with wheels also have doors

I'd argue it has to be functioning to count. If it can't open, it's not actually a door. That's what gives the edge to wheels, I think. Sure, there are a lot of buildings with a ton of doors, but that number is easily dwarfed by the number of toys with actual functioning wheels.

EDIT: Also, you gotta figure that most buildings with a ton of doors are public buildings, like offices, and those are gonna have a ton of office chairs. With wheels. Also shopping carts and trolleys/flatbeds/etc. in stores, and so on.

Thinking about it in terms of cars is a trap. I'm sitting in an office chair - there's 5 wheels. But wait! Each individual wheel is actually two wheels put together. If you consider a large building with many doors like an office or hotel, you have to consider like...blinds? Use pulleys. Wheels. Sliding cabinet drawers? They're on wheels.

Unless you are defining wheels solely as vehicular transport, it is easy wheels.

I think there are more spare and unused (but still identifiable) wheels and tires rather than spare doors, or at least that's my impression.

idk, the house i was renting a few years ago had like seven unattached doors scattered around the house. was very tempted to do a Real Fake Doors theme

Definitely doors. Think about all the hotels, officer buildings, schools, etc.

Then you have double doors in a lot of cases.

Stall doors in public bathrooms.

So how long do we have to wait until someone counts them all and informs us of the answer?

Monsters Inc. alone contained enough doors to make the answer obvious.

The average office chair has five legs. The average office chair leg has two wheels on it. That's 10 wheels per chair. The average office desk drawer has rollers, which is another 2-4 wheels per drawer.

etc. and so on.

Even hotels, a lot of rooms have a desk and desk chair, and no single room has 10 doors, so wheels are already winning there. Hotels also tend to have conference rooms, more desk chairs. Baggage carts. Wheels on the actual patrons' luggage. That's not even getting into the pulleys in blinds, like somebody mentioned.

Retail stores also make up for the slack even for cheap hotels that don't have desks/conference centers/etc., with carts and flatbeds and what have you.

You're thinking way too narrowly about where wheels are if you think doors take it.

There are seven doors in my house.

Vacuum cleaner has four wheels, suitcase has two, and a single toy car. Thats already more wheels than doors and you could count the old bedframe in my basement which has four wheels.

So yeah more wheels than doors in the world imo

Lego is the world's biggest tire manufacturer, according to google they make over 300 million tires a year. And that's just Lego.

I presume that your collection, like mine, had few cars with functioning doors. And the fact that they work is the only thing that qualifies them makes it interesting.

Things with doors include buildings, furniture, cabinetry, vehicles, appliances, some puzzle boxes, and toys like dollhouses, larger model cars, and Fisher-Price toddler play sets.

Wheels? You have automobiles, carts, office chairs, toys, vacuums, and wheelchairs.

One average hotel room has that office chair, but also the entry door, bathroom door, and at least one cabinet. Not all hotel rooms have the chair, however, and those hotels only have a handful of wheels for the baggage carts, laundry bins, vacuums, chairs up front, and a few other things here and there.

I think the toys are enough for wheels to take it, though.

Wheels win.

People forget some obvious wheels too like all the skateboards, skates, hoverboards, bikes, grocery carts, garbage cans with wheels, all the devices used to make moving heavy objects easier, etc. Wheels have a ton of uses compared to doors.

Gotta believe it's wheels.

What are the biggest door manufacturing companies?

Michelin, Bridgestone, Goodyear are all in the 9 figure range per year like lego.

So do revolving doors count as wheels, doors, or both? I don't think this matters for the original question but I must know the answer.

Damn I was gonna say "there are only four Doors and two of them are dead."

But in actuality I say doors.

reviving this just to be a devil's advocate of that other post, i count cabinet doors and vehicle doors as doors so i think it's closer than people give it credit for. windows generally shouldn't count but ones that open like doors and consist of surrounding wooden frames for instance arguably do I feel

i find myself wondering now though after having thought a bit about cabinets, can drawers compete with doors

Given that screws turn in a circular fashion, and don't open anything, they're closer to a wheel.

I've tried to figure out how this argument makes sense and have failed. What's the argument, here? They don't count as anything, but ultimately they spin, making them closer to wheels than doors.

Gears quite literally function as wheels. They spin in order to move something. What's the argument for screws as doors? You certainly don't pull or push them to open or close anything.
