Okay, just to ask guys is Biden's approval rating dropping just because of the still-raging pandemic? I'm willing to give Trump the benefit of the doubt there but the situation still seems way calmer in general in America compared to pre-election.

Looks like the major story is Russia now. Gee I wonder if Hillary Clinton had a point in taking a hardline stance against Russia? Yes I'm still sore about that. At this point, no matter how much of a drastic over-simplification it may be I'm basically going to say she lost the election for the crime of being born with a vagina.

Unfortunately due to those YouTube randos (who I swear I don't watch anymore) I'm used to a lot of contemporary right-wing rhetoric. Actually that's the reason I've been retreating from them over the past few years. I hate having to demonize an entire political party but conservatives are making it too dang easy nowadays. no, she didn't.

the situation with russia is very difficult but starting world war III isn't the solution.

I have faith that she wouldn't have but admittedly it was one of many controversial positions she took.

I don't mean to imply she lost the election entirely because of her gender, just that it did factor into a number of reasons so. It's not a good look for America that Trump won an election against a woman and succeeded a black man, then lost the minute he ran against a white man. Although that said, I always felt racism and sexism were only the tip of the iceberg as far as Trump is concerned and if anything people talking him up that way only made him seem cooler. Unfortunately my mom did bring it up repeatedly and seemed to take Trump's election especially bad, though I guess it's far out of the ordinary for a woman of color.

I think Bidens approval is dropping because he hasn't done anything, including fulfilling campaign promises he could do such as slashing student debt.

And the few things he has done have been controversial like his promise of putting a black woman on the Supreme Court (Which I don't hate for diversity sake, but what a way to marginalize a person's achievements)

The whole country kind of sucking just magnifies that.

I think what plum means is that it would have been better if he just nominated a black woman without first saying "I'm only considering black women". Because now it makes the #1 qualification the nominee has "being a black woman" rather than their judicial qualifications/achievements.

probably would have been even better if presidents hadn't been 0-for-115 in circumstances where that promise did not exist

also depressingly we have politicians still serving who were around when reagan promised to nominate a woman to the court (O'Connor) and shocker the usual suspects had different thoughts on such promises that time.

It's still a dumb point to make because of course judicial achievements will also be considered. I'm sure there is no shortages of judges that meet Biden's needs from an ideological and experience standpoint. This is just the same old tired affirmative action debate again.

Of course, this assumes experience is a thing that matters to the Court anymore, which isn't even a given with the last couple of noms. But I think the admin is intentionally looking to distance themselves from Trump's selection methods.

I feel bad for the kids, but honestly its pretty insane for a college to increase admissions by 30% without doing any analysis on the affect that will have in the local area.

I'm not sure why it should be the college's problem? Those students could all just move to Berkeley anyway even if they don't get admitted. If the city wants to fight homelessness it needs to actually provide more low cost housing, not order a college to admit less people. Very simple solution. Weird that so few cities in America can figure it out.

Everybody knows that. The thing is people don't actually want to fix any of the homelessness/environmental/etc problems they cite as reasons to not build new stuff. They just use all that as an excuse to prevent new building simply because they don't want it. Cities are doing exactly what their residents want, even though what they want is stupid.

If you look into the group and what they have actually done it's pretty typical NIMBY shit dressed up in seemingly progressive language. Against the school building more facilities, stopping conversion of single-family homes into dorms, preserving "historic buildings." Typical stuff.

Disagree with this. While I think cities can and should be concerned with building housing, I think private entities bringing thousands of out of town people in should have to consider the local area.

If Hillary hadn't cleared the 2016 primary field before the race even started, Sanders probably loses a lot worse than he did. Without support from people who just don't like Hillary and with more candidates for the media to cover, he'd just be the token "far-left crazy" guy who never gets taken seriously.

I really wish we lived in a world where we could worry about things like Hillary's power brokering, because the choice came down to Bernie vs Hillary, rather than the world we have where the choice came down to Hillary and Trump. That'd be a much better world. And I'd choose Bernie 100 out of 100 times. But that's not the world we have, so I can't bring myself to really care too much. Does it suck? Definitely. But I've become apathetic toward it because Republicans are just plain evil. By "Republicans" I mean the politicians, not the people that vote for them, though these days that line is becoming more and more blurred.

Didn't see people complaining when the Virginia GOP abruptly switched its primary rules to convention-style nomination instead of a regular primary to screw over all of Youngkin's opponents to ensure he got picked instead of someone who wasn't openly part of Trump's cult because they reasoned he was their best chance to win the state because somehow he fooled people into thinking he wasn't.
