No, this is stupid, provide proof otherwise, please. Support of "far left" ideals like universal healthcare is NOT a "support of dictatorship" in the same vein.

It's pathetic that Republicans want to legit limit who can vote, and people like you try to "Same thing, both sides!" it.

Not sure what other states would revert to. Overturn some landmark decisions and you can easilt create some insane chain of dominoes as all of a sudden decades/centuries old laws still on the books but were rendered moot by various decisions (or on decisions that rest upon the overturned decision, etc.) go back into force.

Griswold v Connecticut is extremely important beyond just contraception access (which is an insane thing to ban); its where the Supreme Court recognized that the Constitution implies a right to privacy.

That's one of those things that's not in the text of the Constitution that the right would like to overturn.

Ive also considered this, but I think two large problems are countries change over time internally and good places to live change over time.

For instance if the place you are looking for is a country with a large social safety net, that country might not offer that in 20 years either from external factors like war or internal factors such as the banking crisis that almost bankrupt Europe.

I dont think transplanting my life that dramatically for situations that could change at the drop of a hat is a good idea.

Plus, in a situation where the United States becomes too destabilized to desire to live even in the more liberal areas such as the north east, I would also expect China and Russia to start making huge territory grabs into those exact countries that invested in social services instead of their military.

If you are really concerned about where you are, I would consider moving to a liberal area of America because if that becomes untenable then the whole world is probably screwed.

Also, because I have seen a lot of uninformed opinions, Canadian Charter of Rights and freedoms protects peaceful protests, and explicitly excludes protests that blockade legal activities (i.e. blocking a highway/road/train station). About the only thing the right wing whack jobs have right, is that the government is looking the other way for certain "protests" (i.e. all the native gas pipeline protests last year where Turdeau let them block highways and trains for almost 2 months).

The moral of the story here is that letting people illegally riot when it suits your narrative will inevitably bite you in the ass when people are rioting against your narrative.

So you "have a problem" with Canadian democracy then, since our IDs have expiry dates, and you need to request an updated ID if you move (either in person or online). I can't think of a single valid reason for a person to not have valid ID. Pretty much the only time they don't is because they are doing something illegal.

Requesting an updated ID and having it mailed is fine. Actually I guess expiring is also fine if you can request it online.

Main problem is American politicians weaponize this in specific ways. Also voter fraud is hilariously low in our country so it is all grandstanding.

Like I get that you don't live here but Republicans deserve no benefit of the doubt for anything ever when it comes to voting.

Yet we need massive changes in the law to "protect voter integrity" that just so happen to target minority voters hmmmmmm...

The most hilarious part is that when the occasional one-off voting fraud attempts do pop up, it's almost always done by people voting Republican. You know, the party that insists widespread voter fraud is real and a clear and present danger to the sanctity of our elections.

so he introduced an amendment to remove that exception and require them to out them regardless

That was the list that was compiled on that Wikipedia page, and represents pretty much every major western democracy. What countries with a reputation for having sound democracy weren't listed? Off the top of my head:

Portugal - ID required (https://www.european-elections.eu/how-to-vote/portugal)
Spain - ID required (https://www.european-elections.eu/how-to-vote/spain)
Belgium - ID required (https://www.european-elections.eu/how-to-vote/belgium)
Austria - ID "might be checked" (https://www.european-elections.eu/how-to-vote/austria)
South Africa - ID required (https://www.elections.org.za/content/For-Voters/FAQ--Voter-registration/)
Chile - ID required (remove space for link)
(https://chilereports.cl/en/news/2021/11/16/ questions-and-answers-2021-presidential-and-parliamentary-elections)

If as someone mentioned "it's really hard to maintain proper ID" in the US, maybe that is the problem that needs solving, but I can't imagine having faith in an electoral system where one does not need to provide proof of identification. Absolutely bonkers, and such a weird stupid fight for democrats to be pushing for when literally ANY OTHER CONCERN would be a better use of their time.

Can you think of any other major democracies that I have missed?

This might be an even weirder situation than Trump's administration, given the current POTUS basically won by soaking up anti-votes en masse. For all you know practically any moderately popular and controversy-free candidate could have won the election in Biden's place.

Also the more I think about Trump the more I realize he's no less phony than any other politician. He merely hid his phoniness under bluster.

https://www.axios.com/texas-abott-gender-affirming-care-trans-kids-423467ea-d634-4f2d-92cf-f688c43369f6.html

https://twitter.com/ErinInTheMorn/status/1496511215719399431

Texas has instructed Family and Protective Services to begin investigating all trans children and to prosecute their parents as child abusers if they so much as allowed them to have puberty-blocking drugs.

In addition, they are requiring any licensed professional including teachers, doctors, and nurses to report any suspicions to them so they can investigate the parents, with a failure to report constituting a criminal offense.

And if my reading of Texas State Law is correct (and hell Abbott's letter basically says as much), it's a criminal offense for anyone to fail to report, not just teachers, doctors, etc. Abbott's letter as seen in that tweet notes when talking about teachers, etc. that "There are similar reporting requirements and criminal penalties for members of the general public."

The statutes he cites in making that claim (if you want to join me in wading through dry legal text) are the Texas Family Code Chapter 261.101a and 261.109.

261.101 as a whole goes over the requirement to report. 101a requires "A person having reasonable causes to believe [...]" while 101b speaks specifically to professionals and provides the "teachers, doctors, nurses, day-care, clinic employees, [etc." list. The difference between the two seems to mostly be that the professional class there has an additional requirement to report within 48 hours.

261.109 is the section devoted to making failure to report a criminal offense.
