I can't think of a single valid reason for a person to not have valid ID. Pretty much the only time they don't is because they are doing something illegal. Requesting an updated ID and having it mailed is fine. Actually I guess expiring is also fine if you can request it online. Main problem is American politicians weaponize this in specific ways. Also voter fraud is hilariously low in our country so it is all grandstanding.
